Practice The LBSU women s basketball team officially begins practice on Saturda, Oct. 7 All workouts will take place at either the Walter Pyramid or Gold Mine. Directions to the Walter Pyramid From North: Take 405 South and exit at North Bellflower Blvd. Turn left from the off-ramp and then make an immediate right on Bellflower Blvd. Turn left on Atherton. Proceed four blocks and turn right on Merriam Way for parking directly in front of the Walter Pyramid. From South: Take 405 North or 22 West. These two freeways merge. Long Beach State is coming off of its first NCAA Tournament showing since 1992 after winning the Big West Conference Tournament since After losing eight letterwinners, including three starters, the Beach welcomes eight newcomers with seven freshmen and a sophomore transfer. The eight newcomers will join LBSU s five returning letterwinners. Long Beach State also welcomes back a pair of starters in senior guard Cecily Wilson and junior guard Martina McCowan. With a 23-win season a year ago, LBSU logged its third-consecutive 20-win campaign marking the first time the Beach have earned three 20-plus win seasons since The Beach have won 14 straight Big West Conference games inside the Walter Pyramid, dating back to Jan. 20, Senior Jessica Gertz is Long Beach State s top returning scorer (6.8 ppg) after leading the team in three-pointers as 64 of her 77 made field goals came from beyond the arc. She set a program record with nine made threes against Cal State Fullerton en route to tallying a career-best 29 points. Gertz made her way into the Long Beach State single-season record book with a three-point field goal percentage of 39.5 as she is now ninth. She also broke into the LBSU career top 10 with 113 made three-point field goals as she is just two treys away from moving into seventh place all-time. Junior guard Martina McCowan returns to the court as the team s leader in rebounding as she averaged 2.2 boards a year ago. Senior Cecily Wilson comes back for her final year in a Beach uniform after finishing the campagin with 3.8 points per game and 2.1 rebounds per contest. Additionally, she swiped 41 steals to tie McCowan for third on the team. She also posted nine blocks to tie for second on the squad. The Beach has led the Big West in steals in each of the last four seasons and finished the campaign with 327 to rank 34th in the nation. Long Beach State finished the season leading the Big West in steals (327), three-point field goals made (271), turnover margin (+6.56) and turnovers forced (20.35). The Beach s turnover margin was good enough to rank ninth in the country, while their three-point field goals made and turnovers forced ranked 18th. 3 COACHING STAFF HEAD COACH Jeff Cammon First Year Jeff Cammon was selected as the Long Beach State women s basketball head coach in May Cammon returns to the Beach after having served as an assistant coach from He brings a wealth of coaching experience after having spent time at Cal and Colorado before making his return to LBSU. Cammon was part of former Long Beach State head coach Jody Wynn s first coaching staff at the Beach, spending five years with LBSU. During his first stint with the Beach, Cammon was instrumental in the team s turnaround. In his first season with the team, Long Beach State finished over.500 in conference play for the first time in four years, and then two years later, reached the Big West Tournament finals. I feel like I never left because my heart was still there in Long Beach. I m both humbled and excited to come back and be able to build on the successful tradition and culture established by Jody Wynn, Derek and the rest of her staff. In , Long Beach State made its first postseason appearance in over ten years, earning a selection into the WNIT. In each of Cammon s five seasons at Long Beach State the Beach reached the Big West Tournament. Cammon left LBSU to join the coaching staff at Cal, where he helped lead the Golden Bears to the Pac-12 Conference Championship game as well as to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. During his time in Berkley, Cal posted a record. His most recent coaching stop was at Colorado, where he once again played a big part in a major turnaround. Doubling the team s win total from a season earlier, Colorado went overall and started the season 10-0, including a win over a ranked Kentucky team. The Buffaloes also picked up a win No. 24 California on the road, the first away win over a ranked opponent for CU since Prior to coaching at the Beach, Cammon spent two years as the head girls varsity coach at Bishop Alemany High School in Mission Hills, Calif., where he also taught history. He also coached on the men s side as an assistant at Kentucky Wesleyan, Chaffey CC and his alma mater, Alcorn State. A three-year starter at point guard with the Braves, Cammon was the team captain for two years and led Alcorn State to three conference championships and an NCAA Tournament appearance. Cammon graduated from Alcorn State in 2003 with a bachelor s degree in political science, and then completed a master s degree in physical education two years later in

4 COACHING STAFF ASSISTANT COACH Bryan Camacho First Year Bryan Camacho joined the Long Beach State coaching staff as an assistant coach for the season. His hiring marks the third time that Camacho will coach in the collegiate ranks, after spending nearly 20 years as a coach and administrator at the high school level. Most recently, Camacho has spent the last six seasons as the girls basketball head coach at Bishop Alemany High School in Mission Hills, where he compiled a overall record while leading the team to six straight CIF Tournament appearances as well as five Mission League titles. In 2013, Camacho led the Warriors to the CIF Division III championship, and the next season, reached the Southern Region championship game in CIF Division I. THE CAMACHO FILE Alma Mater College of the Canyons (1994) Associate s Degree Social Science UCLA (1996) Bachelor s Degree History Coaching Career 2017-present Long Beach State Bishop Alemany High School Head Coach CSUN Bellarmine-Jefferson High School Head Coach Prior to his time at Bishop Alemany, Camacho served as an assistant women s basketball coach at CSUN. While in Northridge, Camacho was responsible for team training, scouting recruiting, fundraising, budget maintenance, video exchange and conditioning and strength training. Camacho previously worked at Bellarmine-Jefferson High School in Burbank as girls basketball head coach where he compiled a head coaching record of Under his tutelage, Bellarmine-Jefferson made a 2010 California State Tournament appearance and won the Santa Cruz League Championship on three separate occasions (2008, 2009, and 2010). At the helm of Bellarmine-Jefferson, Camacho was named Burbank Leader and Glendale New Press Coach of the Year in 2007, 2009 and He was also selected as Los Angeles Times and Daily News Coach of the Year in 2009 after his team won the 2009 California State Division V Championship and the CIF Division V-A Southern Section Championship. In his early years at Bellarmine-Jefferson, Camacho s teams made appearances in the 2004 CIF Division IV-A Final Four and the 2003 CIF Division IV-S Southern Section Finals. In addition, Camacho also has experience coaching on the men s side as he has served as an assistant coach at the University of Great Falls-Montana and Chaminade College Preparatory. Camacho earned an Associate s Degree in social science from College of the Canyons in 1994 and went on to graduate from UCLA with a Bachelor s Degree in history in

5 COACHING STAFF ASSISTANT COACH Kevin Adams First Year Kevin Adams was hired in 2017 as an assistant coach for the Long Beach State Women s Basketball program. Adams comes to the Beach from Cal Poly Pomona, where he was in his second stint as Associate Head Coach of the women s basketball program. While at Cal Poly Pomona, Adams was responsible for coordinating recruiting and team travel, as well as assisting with video coordination, scouting, monitoring the strength and conditioning program, and fundraising. He also coordinated and ran all social media outlets for the women s basketball program as Adams is skilled in platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Periscope, and Snapchat, as well as imovie. THE ADAMS FILE Alma Mater California Baptist University (2008) Bachelor s Degree Kinesiology Coaching Career 2017-present Long Beach State Cal Poly Pomona Associate Head Coach San Diego State Director of Player Development and Assistant Recruiting Coordinator Cal Poly Pomona Associate Head Coach Cal Baptist Adams spent a year at San Diego State University as the Director of Player Development and Assistant Recruiting Coordinator. In his role, Adams was responsible for coordinating film exchange, editing game and practice film, and developing team highlight videos. He also lent support to the director of basketball operations in the planning and preparation of all team events. Lastly, Adams also ran all social media outlets for the women s basketball program. Prior to his time at SDSU, Adams served as an Associate Head Coach for Cal Poly Pomona for five seasons. During his first run with the Broncos, Cal Poly Pomona reached five straight Division II NCAA Tournaments, and advanced to the NCAA Final Four in During his time at Cal Poly Pomona, Adams has helped develop three players named the CCAA Player of the Year as well as 15 All-CCAA honorees. Adams played an integral role in Cal Poly Pomona s season as he helped the Broncos put together a 28-5 overall record while capturing the CCAA and West Region titles. With Adams on the bench, the Broncos made it all the way to the Elite Eight and posted their best finish since He started his collegiate coaching career as an at Cal Baptist and spent a total of four seasons working with the Lancers program. Adams was a four-year letterwinner at Yucaipa High School and returned to his alma mater to assist the boys basketball program. The Yucaipa, Calif., native graduated from Cal Baptist University with a Bachelor s Degree in kinesiology. Adams and his wife Nicole have two children, Kennedy and Josiah. 5 5

6 COACHING STAFF ASSISTANT COACH Laura Dinkins FIRST Year Laura Dinkins is in her first season as an assistant coach at Long Beach State after being hired in Dinkins comes to the Beach after spending three seasons at Fresno State. During her time at Fresno State, the Bulldogs reached the second round of the WNIT in each of her first two seasons, and fell just short of the NCAA Tournament in after reaching the Mountain West Tournament Championship Game. Prior to her time at Fresno State, Dinkins worked at Idaho State where she coached four players that earned All-Big Sky honors and 11 student-athletes that were named to the Big-Sky All-Academic team. Dinkins also served as an assistant coach at Northern Arizona, her alma mater. THE DINKINS FILE Alma Mater Northern Arizona University (2008) Bachelor s Degree Health Sciences While a student-athlete at Northern Arizona, Dinkins was named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year and ranks second in Lumberjack history with 714 rebounds in her career, and fell just 30 points shy of 1,000 career points. She also played a program record 1,144 minutes during the season and was a member of the team that won Northern Arizona s first Big Sky Championship, earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Playing Career Northern Arizona Professional Basketball (Europe) Following her graduation from Northern Arizona with a Bachelor s Degree in health sciences in 2008, Dinkins went on to play two seasons of professional basketball in Europe. She played in Germany for the Chem Cats and helped the team earn a Division II Championship. She also played a season in The Netherlands for the Perik Jumpers.
