Overtime was not played due to a severe thunder and lightning storm. Kelly Johnson connected for the only goal of the game for TCU, scoring off a corner kick. Makenzie Koch took the corner kick, providing the lone assist on the goal. Vittoria Arnold made the start in goal for TCU, allowing one goal on four shots faced. Seven newcomers hit the field for the Horned Frogs on Friday night, six of whom were featured in the starting lineup. MONTANA NOTABLES The Grizzlies opened the season with a 1-1 record, facing off against two Mountain West squads on the road. Montana shut out Wyoming, 2-0, in the season opener, before dropping a 1-0 decision at Air Force. Ashley Tombelaine and Erin Craig were the lone goal scorers for Montana. Kristen Hoon played all 180 minutes in goal for Montana. She surrendered just one goal and made 12 saves. For her efforts, she was named the Big Sky Player of the Week. Montana s head coach, Mark Plakorus, was an assistant coach at TCU from STEPHEN F. AUSTIN NOTABLES The Ladyjacks are coming off a successful weekend that saw them record a pair of shutouts over Houston and Jackson State. Chelsea Raymond was instrumental in both wins with a pair of goals and an assist. Kylie Louw dished out a school-record four assists and scored a goal for Stephen F. Austin in the win over Jackson State. Between the pipes a pair of goalkeepers earned shutouts. Morgan Glick made two saves in shutting out Jackson State, while Lacey Lee posted three saves in a win over Houston. Defensively, the Ladyjacks allowed just seven total shots, five of which found their way on net. This season s slate of games will see 10 opponents make their way to Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs have set record attendance figures in each of the last five seasons. In 2011, TCU ranked seventh nationally in total attendance, welcoming 15,352 fans overall in the gates during the 10 home matches. Seven of the top 10 single-game attendance records have come in the last three seasons. HOME OPENING SUCCESS TCU has put forth a solid effort on its home field since the program began in In the 26 previous seasons, the Frogs own a record in home openers. The Frogs have been even better since the 2000 campaign saw the opening of a new stadium. TCU boasts an 8-4 record in home openers at Garvey-Rosenthal. TCU has won five straight home openers dating back to the 2007 season. Four of those victories have come via the shutout. TCU has outscored opponents 18-1 in the last five home openers. THE YOUTH MOVEMENT Exactly half of TCU s 22-man roster is made up of freshman this season. Additionally, the Frogs added a transfer to make the roster over half full of new faces. The group of 11 first-year players and one sophomore made an immediate impact in the Frog s 1-1 tie at New Mexico in the season-opener. Sophomore Vittoria Arnold played all 90 minutes in goal, making three saves 2012 tcu women s Soccer notes on four shots. In total nine shots were fired in her direction. Freshman Makenzie Koch took the corner kick that led to the Frogs only goal. Sarah Schweiss put the pressure on the two-time MW Defensive Player of the Year, Kelli Cornell, taking three shots towards the goal, two of which found their way on net. Seven of the 15 players who saw action in Friday s night s game at New Mexico were newcomers. Six of them were starters in the contest. FINDING THE SCORING TOUCH Junior Kelly Johnson found herself in the right place at the right time to score the Horned Frogs first goal of the season. She was on the receiving end of Makenzie Koch s corner kick in the 70th minute at New Mexico. Johnson headed the ball into the back of the net to give the Frogs a 1-0 lead over the Lobos. She fired two shots at the net and made her lone shot on goal count. A NEW ERA The TCU soccer program is entering its 27th season and along with that comes a new face at the helm. Eric Bell became just the third head coach in the program s history when he was hired back in December. A NEW ERA, TAKE 2 On July 1 officially became a member of the Big 12 Conference. It marks the Horned Frogs fourth conference since the demise of the Southwest Conference in the summer of TCU has played each of its new league foes at least once with the exception of Kansas and West Virginia. In their history, the Horned Frogs are against the Big 12 as it stands today.

Bell spent the last six seasons with the Seminoles. After arriving as an assistant coach in 2006, he was promoted to associate head coach in Bell was Florida State s recruiting coordinator his entire tenure in Tallahassee. As recruiting coordinator, Bell made school history as the 2007 class earned its highest national ranking. The Seminoles were recognized by Soccer Buzz with the nation s second-best recruiting class, while grabbing the top spot in the Southeast Region. At the time, both rankings were the highest garnered in program history. Of the 11 freshmen, five ranked in the top 150 by Soccer Buzz while Erin McNulty and Sanna Talonen ranked among the nation s top international recruits. In 2008, Bell once again made school history as Soccer Buzz awarded Florida State with the top recruiting class in the nation. The publication ranked six freshmen in the top 40 with five receiving PARADE All-America honors. Tiffany McCarty was recognized for her outstanding season, becoming the first Seminole in school history to earn ACC Freshman of the Year honors. The accolades continued to pour in as Tori Huster and Casey Short joined McCarty as Freshman All-Americans. The 2009 class was ranked as the fourth-best recruiting class in the Atlantic Coast Conference by TopDrawerSoccer.com. Since his arrival in Tallahassee, Bell helped guide the Seminoles to three College Cup appearances in 2006, 2007 and 2011, including a berth in the school s first national championship game in In his time at FSU, the Seminoles compiled an overall record of , highlight by the 2011 ACC tournament title. Bell has coached the 2007 MAC Hermann Trophy winner, a pair of national Freshmen of the Year, 18 All-Americans, the 2008 ACC Freshman of the Year, 2007 and 2009 ACC Offensive Players of the Year and a handful of student-athletes who have competed internationally. In overseeing the defensive scheme, Bell led the Seminoles to a sub-1.00 goals against average in five of his six seasons en route to a 0.83 GAA during that span. The Seminole backline has averaged over 12 shutouts a season under Bell, reaching double digits all six years while posting a school-record 14 shutouts in both 2006 and In 2008, FSU set the school record for the fewest goals allowed (15) and the lowest goals against average (0.63). In 2010, the Seminoles gave up a league-low five goals during conference play, while leading the ACC in shutouts with 13. Prior to his arrival in Tallahassee, Bell spent four years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Illinois. In 2005, he was named NSCAA Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year while working at one of the top soccer programs in the Big Ten. Bell also served as head coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2000 in addition to being an assistant at the University of Illinois and Ashland University in Ohio. Bell is a United States Soccer Federation A Licensed coach and a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He attended the College of Wooster where he earned a B.A. in As a player, he led his team to two NCAA Division III tournament appearances in 1989 and 1990 and to a North Coast Athletic Conference title in He was voted the team s best offensive player following the 1991 season.
