Shot Leaders Lizzy Karoly and Michelle Nguyen are pacing the Mountain West Conference in shots. Karoly, the league leader, has 44 shots and is averaging 4.40 per game. Nguyen has 31 shots and is averaging 3.10 per game. Karoly notched a career-best 10 shots against Sam Houston State on Sept. 15. Feast or Famine Wins and losses this season for TCU have been pretty black and white. If TCU scores - they win. If TCU fails to score - they lose. So far, TCU is 5-0 when they score and 0-5 when they do not score. Vross Shuts Down Roadrunners Freshman Kelsey Vross recorded the first shutout of her career in what was her first full game. Vross stopped all three of the Roadrunners shots on goal to preserve TCU s second shutout of the year. The Horned Frogs other shutout came on Sept. 1 when Katy Buchanan and Vross combined to shutout Tulsa. The shutout was the first by a freshman since Oct. 19, 2003 when Buchanan shutout Tulane 2-0. Pope Leads MWC Despite missing the last three matches, Lauren Pope remains tied for the league lead with New Mexico s Kristine Sweat in goals (4). Pope also leads the league in points per game (1.29) and goals per game (.57). MWC Defensive Player of the Week On Sept. 11, sophomore defender Caroline Starns was honored by the Mountain West as the Defensive Player of the Week for her play against No. 1 Notre Dame and Houston. Starns started both games and led the Horned Frogs' defensive unit that only allowed three goals for the weekend and just 14 shots on goal. Starns and the TCU defense held No. 1 Notre Dame scoreless until the 54:27 mark and only allowed the Irish seven shots on goal. The two goals scored by the Irish also tied a season low. Prior to its match with TCU, Notre Dame had averaged four goals per game. Against Houston, Starns helped TCU surrender just one goal and seven shots on goal. Starns and the Horned Frogs kept a Houston offense in check that had fresh legs after rolling to a 12-0 win over Texas Southern on Sept. 6. Last Time Out TCU topped UTSA 3-0 on Sept. 23 for its second shutout of the season. TCU took 25 shots, including 11 on goal in the win. Lizzy Karoly paced TCU with two goals and an assist. Kelsey Vross played the full 90 minutes in goal and earned the first shutout of her career. Against SMU on Sept. 21, the Horned Frogs were shutout 2-0. TCU took 11 shots, but its offense was unable to crack the wall setup by SMU's goalkeeper Ashley Gunter. Gunter made five saves, including a few diving stops that nullified TCU's chances. Holding Back the No. 1 Team TCU s defensive prowess was evident against Notre Dame on Sept. 8 as the Irish matched a season-low with just two goals after averaging four goals in its previous four matches. TCU s defense has been even more stellar in the second half where the Horned Frogs have allowed just four of their 13 goals TCU Soccer

Unfortunately for TCU, Notre Dame's offensive attack was able to net two second-half goals to claim a 2-0 victory as 2,053 fans looked on at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium. With the second-largest crowd in school history looking on, the Horned Frogs (2-3-0) used a Ziploc-tight defense in the first frame and did not allow the Fighting Irish (5-0-0) to take a shot until the 31:33 mark. In all, the Fighting Irish were able to tally seven shots in the first half, but goalkeeper Katy Buchanan stoned Notre Dame four shots on goal. However, the tide changed in the second half with Notre Dame going on the offensive early. At the 54:27 mark, Jill Krivacek headed in a cross by Michele Weissenhofer to give the Irish a 1-0 advantage. With Notre Dame holding a 1-0 advantage, the Irish struck again with another header for a goal. This time it was Brittany Bock, who headed in a pass by Weissenhofer off a free kick for Weissenhofer's second assist of the game. Thanks in part to eight corner kicks in the second half; the Irish were able to tally 12 of their 19 shots in the second half. Offensively, TCU tallied four shots for the game and three corner kicks compared to 11 by Notre Dame. Game 6 Houston at TCU Sept. 10, 2006 Fort Worth, Texas Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium Att: 1,085 FORT WORTH, Texas - Chelsea White and Michelle Nguyen each tallied a firsthalf goal to lift the TCU soccer team to its second straight win with a 2-1 victory over Sam Houston State on Friday at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium. Winners of four of its last five matches, TCU (4-3-0) used a relentless offensive attack and challenged Sam Houston State's goalkeeper Melissa Sauceda with a season-high 32 shots. TCU combined its offensive barrage with a ball-hawking defense that surrendered a season-low seven shots to the Bearkats (2-6-0) and just two shots on goal. TCU struck first at the 10:27 mark, as Chelsea White scored off a cross from the left side by Karissa Hill for her second goal in as many games. However, TCU's lead would not last as the Bearcats battled back to even the match at one. On a pass from 40 yards on the left side, Sam Houston State's Brittany Foerstner found the head of Yoanna Garcia, who scored at the 20:30 mark. Just four minutes and 11 seconds later, TCU was able to regain the lead for good, as Michelle Nguyen scored her third goal of the season to put TCU ahead, 2-1. Nguyen's goal came after she saved a loose ball from going out of bounds on the left side. Nguyen then managed to beat her defender and take a shot that spun past Sauceda's outreached arms. Despite taking shot after shot, the Horned Frogs were unable to undo Sauceda in goal, who secured 12 saves. Game 8 TCU at Nebraska Sept. 17, 2006 Lincoln, Neb. In what was an up-and-down game, TCU (3-3-0) was able to consistently put pressure on Houston (3-3-0) with its speed up front and outshot the Cougars, With the temperature in the 90s for most of the game, the effect of the warm weather was evident on both clubs, as all three of the goals were scored in the first half. Eventually TCU's speed and number of chances paid off, as the Horned Frogs notched the first goal of the game off the foot of Pope at the 11:03 mark. Pope netted her fourth goal of the year by dribbling into the center of the box and taking a shot that beat Houston goalkeeper Shelby Scott. Leading 1-0, Pope contributed again to the Horned Frogs' attack - this time with an assist. After gaining control of the ball on the right side of the box, Pope fed a pass to Lizzy Karoly, who crossed the ball to Chelsea White who knocked home her first collegiate goal a the 18:20 mark. Despite having a 2-0 lead, TCU did not have much time to get comfortable with a two-goal advantage, as Houston struck at the 21:02 mark to narrow TCU's lead to one (2-1). Houston's goal came as Jordan Godbolt scored off a cross from the right side by Sophia Mundy. LINCON, Neb. - Dealing with temperatures in the 60s and a stiff headwind in the first half, the TCU soccer team allowed three first-half goals en route to a 4-0 loss at Nebraska on Sunday at the Nebraska Soccer Field. In what was just the second loss in its last six matches, TCU (4-4-0) was outshot 23-8 by Nebraska (5-1-2). Lizzy Karoly led the Horned Frogs with three shots, while Chelsea White had two shots. In what proved to be a decisive first half, the Huskers took advantage of the wind at their back by tallying three goals, outshooting the Horned Frogs 16-2 and attempting seven corner kicks compared to zero by TCU. Despite trailing 3-0 at the half, TCU settled down in the second half and continued to battle through the match. TCU was able to clampdown on defense in the second half, only allowing one goal and seven shots. The loss continued TCU's strong correlation between goals scored and wins and losses this season. TCU is 4-0 this season when the Horned Frogs score a goal and 0-4 when they fail to score. Buchanan fell to 4-3 in goal, as she tallied two saves in the first half. Vross made three saves in the second half TCU Soccer

Despite taking 11 shots, including five on goal, TCU's offense was unable to crack the wall setup by SMU's goalkeeper Ashley Gunter. Gunter made five saves, including a few diving stops that nullified TCU's chances. TCU was paced by Michelle Nguyen, who had a team-best four shots. Chelsea White also added two shots, both of which were on goal. Goalkeeper Katy Buchanan played the full 90 minutes in goal and tallied a season-best seven saves. With both teams locked in a defensive struggle in the first half, SMU was able to sneak in a goal with just 30 ticks remaining on the clock, as Krystal Bailey was able to knock in a pass off a free kick by Marisa Schieda. SMU's final goal of the match came off the foot of Olivia O'Rear, who was able to dribble into the middle of the box and create a one-on-one opportunity against Buchanan. O'Rear was able to stick her shot past the outstretched arms of Buchanan and into the left corner of the goal at the 84:29 mark to give SMU a 2-0 lead. Game 10 Texas-San Antonio at TCU Sept. 23, 2006 Fort Worth, Texas Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium Att: 1,263 UTSA TCU TCU 24:42 Lizzy Karoly Michelle Nguyen TCU 78:15 Lizzy Karoly HOU 79:18 Casey Glass Karoly, Kaldheim FORT WORTH, Texas - Lizzy Karoly netted two goals and tallied an assist and Kelsey Vross had her first-career shutout as TCU posted its second-highest goal output of the season en route to a 3-0 win over Texas-San Antonio on Saturday at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium. TCU (5-5-0) used an offensive attack that totaled 25 shots, including 11 on goal and an aggressive defense that held UTSA to just seven shots to secure the victory over UTSA (3-6-0), which is in its first season of play. The shutout for TCU was its second of the season and first since defeating Tulsa 2-0 on Sept. 1. With the win, TCU moved to 5-0 on the season when scoring a goal. TCU got on the board for the first time in the match at the 24:42 mark off the foot of Karoly, who took a pass from Michelle Nguyen and beat UTSA goalkeeper Rachel Francis. The goal for Karoly was her third of the season. TCU got on the board in the second half at the 78:15 mark, as Karoly danced around UTSA defenders in the box and cleared enough room to fire a shot past Francis to give TCU a 2-0 advantage on her second goal of the game and fourth of the season. Less than a minute later, Karoly was able to get free again on the sideline off a pass from Breanne Kaldheim. Just as Francis was coming out to stop Karoly, the Escondido, Calif., native tapped a pass to the far post where Casey Glass was able to tap in her first goal of her career. Vross played the full 90 minutes in goal and moved to 1-1 on the season TCU Soccer 9
