The Hokies losses have come at the hands of reigning national champion James Madison and then-no. 20 Colorado. The Hokies hit the road for the first time this season, but will face their third ranked foe of the year Saturday in the 15th-ranked Blue Devils. Returning All-American Paige Petty had six goals against the Bearcats to lead the squad with 14 on the spring. Petty has also accounted for 12 draw controls to go along with 20 by Emma Crooks. Goalkeeper Morgan Berman has totaled 33 saves in the four contests and compiled a.440 save percentage. LAST TIME WE MET In an ACC quarterfinal that included two severe weather delays spanning over two hours, a furious rally by the Blue Devils fell just short in a loss to third-seeded Virginia Tech last April at Koskinen Stadium. Trailing 13-7 with 8:48 remaining in regulation, Duke returned from a 78-minute break in the action to rattle off five straight scores, narrowing the margin to one. Virginia Tech won the ensuing draw control but a caused turnover by Callie Humphrey gave the Blue Devils possession with a minute to play. A final look by Duke was just off the mark, sealing the one-goal victory for the Hokies just before 1 a.m. the following morning. Goalkeeper Chase Henriquez was outstanding in her first career start between the pipes, finishing with 14 saves against the nation s 12th-ranked team. Duke also received seven goals from Charlotte North, with three of those tallies coming during the final nine-minute stretch. DUKE VS. THE ACC The Blue Devils are all-time in regular season ACC contests and went 2-5 against conference opponents last spring. NOTING DUKE HOME SWEET HOME The Blue Devils return to Koskinen Stadium after kicking off the 2019 campaign with back-to-back wins on their home field. Head coach Kerstin Kimel s squad will play nine of its 17 regular season contests at home in Koskinen this spring. The nine home contests include ACC matchups against Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Notre Dame and North Carolina. Duke went 7-5 at home last season and is at Koskinen since the 2009 season. OFF TO THE RACES The Blue Devil attack has totaled 59 goals in the first three contests, marking the highest-scoring start in program history. Duke has received goals from at least eight different players in all three games to start the year. Duke enters the weekend leading the ACC and tied for fifth nationally with an average of goals per game. Sophomore attacker Charlotte North is third in the country in points per game (7.67) and tied for eighth nationally in goals per game (5.00). North leads the Blue Devils with hat tricks in all three contests while senior Olivia Jenner and junior Catherine Cordrey have notched two each. Jenner totaled a careerbest five goals and four assists Sunday at Northwestern. Most Goals Through First Three Games (Opponents) Villanova, Presbyterian, Northwestern Virginia Tech, Presbyterian, Richmond Ohio State, Richmond, William & Mary Virginia Tech, Maryland, Vanderbilt Denver, Vanderbilt, Richmond MOVING ON UP Duke jumped nine spots to No. 15 in this week s national poll released by the Intercollegiate Women s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The Blue Devils also rose to No. 15 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. The movement in the national rankings came after an emphatic 20-0 victory over Presbyterian and a narrow loss at then-no. 7 Northwestern in Sunday s thriller. JENNER DRAW CONTROL COUNT Sisters Olivia and Maddie Jenner have accounted for 43 of Duke s 62 draw controls this season (69 percent). Maddie paces the squad with 22 after winning 13 draws Sunday at then-no. 7 Northwestern. The 13-draw output is tied for the second most by any Division I player in a game this season. The Blue Devils have won the draw controls category in three straight games to open the season. Duke leads the nation in the category with an average of per outing. AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS The Blue Devils are against ranked foes since Duke faces its second ranked opponent of the season Saturday in the 23rd-ranked Hokies. NORTH ALREADY IN RECORD-BREAKING FORM After etching her name in the Duke record books as a rookie, sophomore attacker Charlotte North hasn t missed a beat to open She has tallied five goals in each of the three games to start the year. North s 11-point output Feb. 13 against Presbyterian broke Duke s single-game points record of nine previously held by North and former Blue Devils Maddie Crutchfield, Kelci Smesko and Tricia Martin. North and Cincinnati s Monica Borzillo lead the country with their single game high of 11 points. North s six assists in the win over the Blue Hose matched Crutchfield s single-game record established against Louisville in DUKE IN THE POLLS Week IWLCA IL Media USLM Preseason 24 t19 -- Feb Feb BLUE DEVILS BLANK BLUE HOSE Duke kept a clean sheet for the third time in program history and second time in as many meetings with Presbyterian Feb. 13 at Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils held their opponent scoreless for the first time since defeating the Blue Hose by a 23-0 margin in Goalkeepers Gabbe Cadoux, Jamie Lockwood and Chase Henriquez all contributed minutes in the shutout win. Duke surrendered just three shots on the day. OLIVIA JENNER TOPS CENTURY MARK With her goal at the 5:30 mark in the first half of the season-opening win over Villanova, senior attacker Olivia Jenner notched the 100th point of her career. She owns 114 points in 57 career contests. Jenner became the 28th player in program history to reach the century mark in career points. She also ranks among the top 30 players in Duke history in career goals (26th, 79), assists (20th, 35) and free position goals (t20th, 12) and is the Blue Devils all-time leader in career draw controls (383). DUKE DEBUT A number of Blue Devil freshmen made their official Duke debuts on the field over the team s first three contests. Olivia Rubin and Maddie Jenner recorded two tallies each in the season opener while Veronica Hineman notched her first goal in a Blue Devil uniform against Presbyterian and added two more at Northwestern. Jenner led the Blue Devils with 13 draw controls against the Wildcats. CORDREY PUTS TOGETHER CAREER DAY Junior Catherine Cordrey turned in an impressive performance on the attacking end in the season opener. The Summit, N.J., native finished with a career-best six points and four ground balls, and matched career highs in goals (4), assists (2), free position goals (2) and caused turnovers (3). Cordrey was one of three Blue Devils with four ground balls in the win, joining goalkeeper Gabbe Cadoux and defender Callie Humphrey. PRESEASON ACCOLADES Senior attacker Olivia Jenner garnered Preseason All- ACC recognition. A first team IL Media All-America pick last spring, Jenner led Duke at the draw in 2018 with an ACC-best 149 draw controls. Jenner was also named to Inside Lacrosse s Preseason All- America third team in December, and was joined in earning preseason accolades from the publication by teammates Callie Humphrey and Charlotte North, who were honorable mention selections. 3
