3 John Brady Head Coach Ninth Year 1 SEC Championship 2 SEC Western Division Championships * SEC Player of the Year Selections 3 SEC Freshman of the Year Selections 5 Postseason tournament appearances in the last six years 12 Players who have graduated * Number of SEC wins in 2000, Academic All-SEC honorees When John Brady first put a team on the floor of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, his Tiger squad was undermanned, undersized and underdogs. Teams hated to play the Tigers then because John Brady coached his team hard and they responded with several strong performances against the leagues top teams, but not many wins. Last year, in his eighth season at LSU, John Brady was coaching the LSU team as only he knows how -- with heart and passion, and knowledge of the game that makes him one of the best at in-game decisions. The LSU Tigers, in 2005, won the Southeastern Conference Western Division with a 12-4 record, won 20 games (including 14-of-the-last 19) and posted the first undefeated record at home in the SEC (8-0) since LSU advanced to the NCAA Tournament, putting the Tigers in postseason play for the fourth straight year and the fifth time in six seasons. LSU has had four consecutive winning seasons under John Brady and only three times in the program history has there been longer consecutive years of winning. In the last six seasons, LSU has won 119 games, one game shy of an even average of 20 wins per season. For the second time in the last six seasons, John Brady has coached the SEC Player of the Year and in those six years he has coached the SEC Freshman of the Year three times, including each of the last two years. Brady s 140 wins in eight seasons is the third most wins by an LSU basketball coach and only two LSU basketball coaches have served longer tenures. In his first eight seasons, John Brady has built a program at LSU with a record of success that is hard to argue with. He has given the LSU program the direction to grow and the chance to shine again. When Brady arrived on campus in March 1997 and was given the job of rebuilding the program, make no mistake; he knew his program would be riddled wtih shortcomings because of NCAA-imposed sanctions. He knew he would have the chance to mold the program from the ground up and build a foundation based on responsbility and accountability. Brady knows after eight years his knowledge of the game and his belief in discipline and responsibility for actions on and off the floor have made the LSU program strong again, one that LSU fans are proud of because they feel a part of the program. Brady s plan isn t just taking place on a hardwood floor in the Maravich Center. He has worked hard to show the public that that athletic and academic pursuits of the players should be challenged to the fullest. That s part of the reason that LSU basketball is not only a success on the court, but in the classroom as well. Hours are passed and posted toward graduation on a regular THE JOHN BRADY RECORD basis by scholarship players. The team GPA is now close to 3.0. Brady came to LSU after six highly successful seasons at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. He brought the program to a new level of excitement for the fans and to the team that is still talked about to this day. In his six-year tenure ( ), he turned the team into a consistent winner, posted a record of In Brady s six years at Samford, the team had three firstteam and five second-team all-league selections. In his time at the school, he had 14 members named to the all-league academic team. Now at LSU, the numbers are beginning to work for Brady both on and off the floor. He has had 27 players earn Academic Honor Roll status at LSU, plus 12 selections to the All-SEC team. The 51-year-old Brady is the father of two daughters (Brittany-15, Brooke-11) and is married to the former Misty Champagne. In eight seasons, John Brady has taken the Tigers a long way both on and off the court. The results is a program that is solid both athletically and academically. The top athletes in the country are seriously putting LSU at the top of their lists and Brady is earning the respect of his peers in the league. He has reestablished LSU back as a player in the SEC and the work is being done to keep LSU there for years to come. /----OVERALL---/ /---CONF.---/ YEAR SCHOOL W-L PCT. W-L PCT. Davis has worked out extensively in the off-season to drop his weight to approximately 310 pounds and also had the chance to experience his first international competition this summer, as a member of the United States Under 21 team that traveled to Argentina for the world championships where the U.S finished fifth. Davis averaged 13.5 points and 8.8 rebounds a game last year and was second in the league in rebounds. He has been voted first-team all-sec in the preseason by both the coaches and the media as he looks to improve on a freshman season in which he started the last 29 games, scored in double figures 22 times and had 10 double doubles. The number thing? Here's what Davis was quoted as saying regarding his number switch at media day on the LSU campus in October: "The number change is something I had wanted to do. When you ask, number 34 who is that? Baby Shaq. No offense to Shaq, but I want my own identity, my own number with my own thing. No one has zero so hopefully I can just let this one ride. Also it is a symbol of where I started from just to keep me level headed. Zero, I started with nothing. It always makes me think about back when I was little and what I had to do to get to this moment." Davis shot over 70 percent in the two exhibition games, 17-of-24, with an average of 7.5 rebounds. He is expected to make his 30th consecutive start this evening, a streak that began in the second game of his freshman campaign. Darrel Mitchell LSU's lone senior embarks on his final year with a couple of goals on the horizon, one shortterm, and the other down the road. Mitchell enters his final year with 965 points, 35 shy of becoming the 35th player in LSU history to score 1,000 career points. Last year, Mitchell had his best year as a Tiger, averaging 13.1 points per game, and he was selected to the coaches' pre-season All- SEC second team. Mitchell enters the year having made 176 three-pointers, third best all time at LSU. The only two players ahead of him are Ronnie Henderson ( ) with 189 treys and Torris Bright ( ) with 237. Mitchell has hit 67 treys each of the last two seasons and another year like that would give him 243 three-point field goals, pushing him past Bright. Mitchell hit 6-of-11 treys in the two exhibition contests and hit all seven of his free throw attempts. More importantly, Mitchell is running the point for the Tigers and in two games had nine assists (just two turnovers) and seven steals to go with his 35 points. Darnell Lazare The last time Darnell Lazare started for the Tigers was the end of his freshman year in place of a then-departed Jaime Lloreda. Now patience and a strong ethic have paid dividends and Lazare is expected to make his ninth start of his LSU career against Southern. Lazare really appeared to blossom in the LSU-Shreveport game with what would have been career highs for the Baton Rouge junior as he hit 7-of-12 field goal attempts in a 19-point, 11- rebound game in 27 minutes of play against the Pilot. Lazare averaged 12.0 points in the two exhibition games, including 10-of-13 at the free throw line. Garrett Temple Temple, if he gets the start in the opener, could possibly become the third member of his family to start a basketball game for LSU. His father, Collis Temple, Jr., played for Coach Dale Brown in the 1970s, and, his older brother, Collis Temple III was a fixture for John Brady's team earlier in the decade. While fathers and sons have played at LSU before, it remains to the crack research team to determine if two sons have ever played for the same team that the father started on. Temple scored five points in the second exhibition game against LSU-Shreveport and aver- TIGER TRENDS LSU RECORD BRADY ERA In November In December In January In February In March LSU vs. AP Ranked Opponents At home On the road Neutral LSU s Record in Games... Tasmin Mitchell LSU's freshman Mitchell missed his first six shots in the first exhibition game, but since then he is 14-of-21 from the field, averaging 14.5 points in the exhibition games. Tasmin Mitchell also has dished the ball well with 10 assists in the two exhibition contests. Mitchell was a Mr. Basketball selection by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association following his outstanding career at Denham Springs High School Freshman Starts It is possible that two freshman -- Garrett Temple and Tasmin Mitchell -- will get the starting nod for this game from Coach John Brady. It will mark the third time since the start of the season that freshman have started the opening game of the season for LSU. Last season, the Tigers opened the season with three sophomores (Brandon Bass, Ross Neltner, Tack Minor), a junior (Darrel Mitchell) and a senior (Antonio Hudson) was introduced by Dan Borne' against Tulane in the first round game of the LSU Louisiana Classic. Ironically, the last time LSU opened with Southern in the first game at the Maravich Center, the Tigers started three freshmen -- Brandon Bass, Regis Koundjia and Darnell Lazare -- along with two juniors (Xavier Whipple and Hudson). In the first game of the season, freshman Torris Bright opened his four-year Tiger career at point guard. The Young Tigers The Tiger team has nine freshmen (7) or sophomores (2) on this year's roster... LSU has the most freshmen on the roster of any SEC team. Here's what the other rosters in the league show in terms of freshmen (taken from the SEC media guide): Alabama -- 5 freshmen Arkansas -- 3 freshmen Auburn -- 5 freshmen Florida -- 3 freshmen Georgia -- 5 freshmen Kentucky -- 2 freshmen Ole Miss -- 4 freshmen Mississippi St freshmen South Carolina -- 1 freshman Tennessee -- 2 freshmen Vanderbilt -- 3 freshmen There were times in the first exhibition game when the Tigers had four freshmen on the floor and in the second exhibition when all five players in the game were freshmen. LSU In ESPN s Greatest College Basketball Tournament Just suppose you took 32 teams and gave them their best possible roster of all the players in school history, what kind of college basketball tournament would you have. ESPN thinks you would have the Greatest College Basketball Tournament ever and at fans can check out the mythical tournament bracket and pick their winners as the event goes along. LSU is the 3rd overall seed in the event and is playing out of the Assembly Hall regional with a starting lineup that features Chris Jackson and Pete Maravich at guards, Durand Rudy Macklin and Bob Pettit at forwards and Shaquille O Neal at center, with Stanley Roberts and John Williams coming off the bench. The fantasy Tigers met 30th-seed Iowa in the first round and as of Thursday AM, LSU has 96.8 percent of 93,928 votes cast to win the game and advance to the Round of 16 where they will meet the winner of the all-time Ohio State team versus Cincinnati. Ironically, the real LSU team will face both of those teams this year. It appears the fantasy opponent will be Cincinnati, which has 68 percent of the vote. Besides the Assembly Hall Region LSU is in, top-seeded UCLA is playing out of the Rupp Arena Region, fourth-seed Georgetown heads the Cameron Indoor Stadium Region and secondseed North Carolina heads the Carrier Dome Regional.

9 The round of 16 games are expected to begin being voted on starting Friday. Also as part of the fantasy, fans can pick all-region teams from the four sites. As of Thursday AM, the Houston voters are dominating the market with Hakeem Olajuwon of Houston getting 82 percent of the vote, followed by Clyde Drexler and Elvin Hayes. Pete Maravich of LSU is fourth with 45.4 percent of the voting. Shaquille O neal is receiving 42 percent of the vote and is sixth on the all-regional fantasy voting. Rule Changes There are a couple of rule changes this year, the most notable will be when a ball has been intentionally kicked, it will no longer result in the reset of the shot clock to 35 seconds... When the violation occurs with 15 or fewer seconds remaining, the shot clock will be reset to 15 seconds. Otherwise, when the violation occurs with more than 15 seconds remaining, there shall be no reset of the shot clock. Also the time to replace a disqualified player is being reduced from 30 to 20 seconds with a horn five seconds prior to the 20-second mark... Each team now gets four 30-second timeouts and one 60-second timeout to call during the game with the team only allowed to carry three of the 30- second timeouts to the second half... The first 30-second time out in the second half becomes a full media timeout. LSU's NBA Players LSU had four former players on opening day rosters in the National Basketball Association -- Brandon Bass (Hornets), Stromile Swift (Rockets), Ronald Dupree (Timberwolves) and Shaquille O'Neal (Heat)... Through play last Saturday night, Bass had appeared in two games for the Hornets, averaging 2.0 points per game... Swift has averaged 7.0 points in five games in his first year with Houston, while Dupree is averaging 2.0 in two appearances after being traded to Minnesota on Oct O'Neal averaged 15.0 points in the two games before injuring his right ankle on Nov. 4. Youth Get Break On Hoop Tickets This Year This year, LSU basketball is allowing youngsters 12 and under to come to the games with their folks for only $5. Upper level tickets are available for youth purchase at $5 throughout the season. Up Next -- Nicholls State Monday -- Pat's Coats For Kids The Tigers are back here on Monday night against Nicholls State at 7 p.m.... There is no television for that game... A reminder that for the second straight year, LSU men's basketball will be collecting coats for Pat's Coats for Kids and all those Monday night bringing a coat to the game to donate to the annual collection spearheaded by WBRZ weatherman Pat Shingleton, will get an $11 ticket for the game for $1.
