2 Head Coach Lon Kruger Lon Kruger was named Oklahoma s 14th head men s basketball coach on April 1, 011. Owns a (.61) collegiate record in his 9th year and is at Oklahoma (.613) in his fourth season. Ranks 15th among active Division I head coaches in career victories. The only Division I head coach to ever take five programs to the NCAA Tournament (Kansas State, Florida, Illinois, UNLV and OU) and has taken each at least twice. Named AP Big 1 Coach of the Year. The Sooners are looking to bounce back from a loss to No. 16 Washington on Saturday in Las Vegas. Weber State, an NCAA Tournament team a year ago that is located in Ogden, Utah, is coming off a home win over Utah Valley on Saturday. Monday s contest will air on the Sooner Radio Network (KRXO FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Sirius 135) with Toby Rowland and Mike Houck calling the action. The game will be televised by Sooner Sports TV (FS Southwest Plus) with Bob Carpenter and Renzi Stone announcing. FIVE TOP STORYLINES Monday s game will mark the first between Oklahoma and Weber State in men s basketball. Oklahoma has won 106 of its last 110 home games against non-conference opponents, and 48 of its last 50. The only non-conference opponents to beat OU at Lloyd Noble Center in the last 15 years were Villanova (006-07), Stephen F. Austin ( and 01-13) and Louisiana Tech (013-14). In its four home games, Oklahoma is shooting.435 from 3-point range and is averaging 9.3 makes (opponents are shooting.30 and are averaging 6.5 conversions). The junior trio of Buddy Hield (14 for 3;.609), Isaiah Cousins (11 for 17;.647) and Ryan Spangler (4 for 5;.800) is shooting a combined.644 from behind the arc (9 for 45) at Lloyd Noble Center. Spangler is shooting.74 from the field at home (3 for 31). Five of Oklahoma s 10 opponents (Creighton, UCLA, Butler, Wisconsin and Washington) have been ranked in the AP Top 5 at least once this season, tying Kansas for the most such foes in the Big 1. Iowa State and Texas have played two such teams, while the other six league teams have played one or no such opponents. OU has displayed a balanced scoring attack this season with four starters averaging between 10.1 and 16.1 points per game, and another averaging 7.8. Five different players (Isaiah Cousins, Buddy Hield, Ryan Spangler, TaShawn Thomas and Dinjiyl Walker) have led the team in scoring in the last seven outings, and each of OU s five starters have scored at least 0 points three or more times in their careers. SATURDAY S WASHINGTON RECAP (ALL OU BOX SCORES START ON PAGE 19 OF THESE NOTES) No. 15 Oklahoma rallied from a 0-point deficit and had a potential game-winning jumper by Jordan Woodard bounce on the rim three times before falling off in the final seconds of a loss to No. 16 Washington in the MGM Grand Showcase in Las Vegas. The Sooners fell behind with 5 minutes remaining in the first half before ending the period on a 10-3 run to trail 40-7 at the break. OU started the second half on a spurt to cut the deficit to five (51-46) with 13:15 to go. Down with three minutes left, the Sooners missed four shots on one possession that would have tied the game or given them the lead. Washington scored on its next trip with :00 on the clock to go up by four. A TaShawn Thomas free throw and a jumper cut the margin to one (68-67) with a minute left, and Woodard s shot in the final five seconds was off the mark. Junior guards Buddy Hield and Isaiah Cousins paced the Sooners with 17 points apiece. Each player scored 11 in the second half. Cousins was 5 for 5 from the field after halftime while Hield was 3 for 6 from behind the 3-point line after intermission.
