The Zags have been ranked in both polls for 28 consecutive weeks. H The WCC ranks among national conference leaders in several categories including: scoring (10th/75.0 ppg), free throw percentage (4th/71.88) and field goal percentage (9th/46.02). H San Diego leads Division I in 3-point field goal percentage defense (24.1). The Toreros are sixth in field goal percentage defense (36.8) and 15th in scoring defense (61.6). H Saint Mary s Preseason All-American center Jock Landale ranks in the national top-25 in three major categories: scoring (19th/21.8), rebounding (24th/9.8) and field goal percentage (13th/66.0). H Saint Mary s Emmett Naar posted his fifth 10 assist game of the season with 10 in a overtime win at BYU (12/30). Saint Mary s 9.1 **NCAA Stats as of 1/1/18 WCC on the World Wide Leader As part of their long-term relationship, the West Coast Conference has announced that at least 36 men s basketball games involving WCC schools will air nationally on ESPN Networks this season, including additional exposure during the 2018 WCC Basketball Championship in Las Vegas. The conference will once again be a featured part of ESPN s Thursday night and Saturday coverage. In all, 18 conference games will be showcased on ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU during the campaign. WCC basketball will be featured on ESPN s popular Championship Week coverage once again in 2018, with five live telecasts from Las Vegas: two quarterfinal games (Saturday, March 3, ESPN2), the WCC semifinals (Monday, March 5, ESPN and ESPN2) and the championship game on Tuesday, March 6 (ESPN). Every game during conference play will be televised on a national or regional level, and/or produced for broadcast on the conference s digital network, TheW.tv. Eighteen West Coast Conference regular season games will be broadcast on ESPN Networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU) and a minimum of 41 additional games will air on regional television through conference and school partnerships with Spectrum SportsNet, NBC Sports, ROOT Sports Northwest, AT&T Rocky Mountain and BYUtv - along with the West Coast Conference Game of the Week. As part of the West Coast Conference s long-term deal with Spectrum SportsNet, the broadcast home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Dodgers, will produce and air a West Coast Conference Game of the Week each Saturday during WCC play. The Game of the Week will be distributed to television partners throughout the WCC footprint - up to 16 million homes in all. TheW.tv Enters Year Five in In September of 2013, the West Coast Conference formally launched TheW.tv, the home for WCC sports action on both linear television and in the digital space. Powered by Stadium, TheW.tv delivers West Coast Conference live games, regular studio programming, and exclusive live coverage from every WCC championship free of charge, featuring the tagline, All the action. Anytime. Anywhere. In all, TheW.tv will air well over 100 West Coast Conference men s basketball games this season (65 conference games), including a minimum of 15 exclusive broadcasts produced in HD television quality for the digital platform. 3 Happy Anniversary! In 2018, the West Coast Conference will celebrate the 10-Year Anniversary of its basketball championships in Las Vegas. In the wins over Loyola Marymount and BYU, Landale averaged 26 points, 11 rebounds and 73.3 percent (22-30) shooting from the floor. In a win against the Lions, Landale scored 21 points and collected nine rebounds in 30 minutes of action in the win. The 6-11 Australian center led the Gaels with 31 points and 13 rebounds in the comeback, overtime thriller in Provo, Utah. Landale connected on a whopping 13-of-15 from the field against the Cougars (.867). The Saint Mary s win in Provo was the fourth straight victory in the series. Landale leads the team, averaging 21.8 ppg and 9.8 rpg. 5 #WCChoops Columnist John Crumpacker Returns Longtime Bay Area sportswriter John Crumpacker returns for his fourth year serving as the basketball columnist for the West Coast Conference. An award-winning journalist, Crumpacker will post two exclusive stories per week on WCCsports.com during non-conference play and three per week during league play. In addition, Crumpacker will file WCC Hall of Honor profiles on inductees and special features to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the WCC Basketball Championships in Las Vegas. WCC Basketball Sends Four Programs to the 2017 Postseason WCC Regular season and tournament champion No. 1 seed Gonzaga and No. 7 seed Saint Mary s captured NCAA Tournament berths to headline four conference teams competing in the 2017 postseason. BYU (NIT) and San Francisco (CBI) will open their respective postseason tournaments Wednesday, March 15. This is the sixth time since 2010 that multiple WCC programs have earned NCAA bids and the first since 2015 (Gonzaga & BYU) Spectrum to Produce WCC Game of the Week, Weekly WCC TV Show The West Coast Conference and Spectrum will continue a long-term agreement to televise WCC men s basketball games and other sporting events throughout Southern California and the entire Spectrum Cable SportsNet footprint -- stretching from Las Vegas to Hawai i. Spectrum Sports will produce a WCC Game of the Week and a weekly half-hour show devoted to WCC hoops each Saturday during conference play. #WCChoops Tip-Off a Success On October 19, all 10 WCC men s basketball coaches and a student-athlete from each institution gathered at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. for the seventh annual WCC Men s Basketball Tip-Off. The event, which kicked off the 10-year anniversary festivities for the WCC Basketball Championships in Las Vegas, was streamed live on TheW.tv. Nearly 15,000 people took part by watching the live video stream and by participating in the event via a multitude of social media channels. WCC Signs Orleans Arena Extension The West Coast Conference and Boyd Gaming have announced a three-year contract extension that will keep the West Coast Conference Men s and Women s Basketball Championships at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas through As part of the new agreement for the tournament, The Orleans will make several venue enhancements, highlighted by the installation of a new center-hung high-definition video board. The West Coast Conference Championships feature a 10-team men s and women s bracket. The 7- through 10-seeds will begin play in the tournament s opening round, with the winners joining the top six seeds first competing in the quarterfinal round. 6 BYU WEST COAST CONFERENCE TEAM CAPSULES Team Notes Cougars H Sophomores are paving the way for the Cougars early in An All-WCC selection last season, guard TJ Haws averages 11.5 points and 4.2 assists. After returning from his mission, guard Zac Seljaas is chipping in 6.8 points, while forward Yoeli Childs is off to a huge start for BYU, averaging 18.1 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.1 blocks so far. H Elijah Bryant is enjoying a strong junior season and ranks second on the team in scoring (16.7) with 36 3-pointers. H Haws is the third in his family to earn all-conference honors on the basketball court for the Cougars. Older brother Tyler Haws (All-WCC ) and father Marty Haws ( ) also accomplished the feat. H The Cougars have qualified for the postseason six times as a WCC member. BYU made three NCAA Tournaments and advanced to the semifinals of the 2013 and 2016 NIT. Gonzaga Team Notes Bulldogs H Gonzaga boasts one of the most balanced teams in the country, featuring six players averaging double-digit scoring led by junior guard Josh Perkins (14.0 ppg). H The Bulldogs starting front line of Johnathan Williams, Zach Norvell Jr. and Killian Tillie have combined to average 38.5 points, 16.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. H Gonzaga has won 16 of the last 17 WCC regular season titles. The Zags have advanced to the WCC Championship title game 20 consecutive seasons.
