HBU returns seen letterwinners, including four starters, from last year s squad that went The Huskies won 10 of their last 13 games, including an eight-game winning streak that was their longest since returning to Diision I, and they adanced to the championship game of the Great West Conference Tournament. Junior guard Marcel Smith has started 58 games at point guard during his career, while junior guard Tyler Russell has aeraged 11.5 points per game for his career, but missed the last 16 games of his sophomore year with an injury. Sophomore guard/forward Caleb Crayton and sophomore center Cody Joyce are the Huskies other two returning starters, while sophomore guard Rob Lewis picked up the slack in Russell s absence, scoring in double figures in HBU s last nine games en route to GWC Sixth Man of the Year Honors. This season will be the Huskies first season in the Southland Conference, going from an eightgame to an 18-game league schedule. Texas Tech is entering its first season under head coach Tubby Smith. The Red Raiders went last season and finished ninth in the Big 12. Jay Crockett is Texas Tech s top returning scorer and was the Big 12 s Sixth Man of the Year last season, aeraging 12.1 points per game. The Huskies hae no seniors on their roster for the first time in head coach Ron Cottrell s 23-year tenure...junior guards Marcel Smith and Tyler Russell are two-year starters and are joined by junior center Ricmonds Vilde, a transfer from SMU...sophomore center Cody Joyce and sophomore guard Caleb Crayton each started 17 games as freshmen, while sophomore forward Dauson Womack was one of only three HBU players to appear in all 31 games last season, which included 14 starts... Sophomore guard Rob Lewis did start any games, but appeared in 29 contests and was named Great West Conference Sixth Man of the Year, ranking third on the team with 8.2 points per game...the Huskies added six freshmen this season. YOUTH IS SERVED... The aerage age of HBU s roster at the time of the seasonopener is 19 years, 11 months...aside from transfer junior center Ricmonds Vilde, who is 23, the Huskies do not hae another player who is 21-years old at the start of the season...vilde is 30 months older than the elder of the rest of the squad, junior guard Marcel Smith, who will not turn 21 until Jan Freshman walk-on guard Jacob Gonzalez is the youngest on the team, as he will not turn 19 until March 15.
