The Coaches Flames' head coach Randy Dunton is currently in his sixth year overall as head coach of the Liberty basketball program. He served as the interim head coach during the season and was named full-time head coach prior to the campaign. Dunton has posted a record since returning to Liberty, which includes two second-place finishes in the Big South and a share of the regular-season title in 2004 en route to the program's second ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. Ricky Stokes enters his second season as the head coach of East Carolina after going 8-20 in his first season at the healm. A 13- time NCAA Tournament veteran and two-time Final Four contributor as both a player and assistant coach, Stokes also arrives at East Carolina with four years of head coaching experience -- directing Virginia Tech's growth and competitiveness from the Atlantic 10 Conference ( ) to the Big East Conference ( ) while guiding the Hokies to 46 victories.

Dunton went as the head coach at Marshalltown Community College in Marshalltown, Iowa. In addition, Blair needs 44 points to pass Peter Aluma for fifth on Liberty s all-time scoring list and first on Liberty s Division I all-time scoring list. Liberty Picked To Finish Fifth In Big South For the second-consecutive year, Winthrop was the unanimous selection as preseason favorites in the annual Big South Preseason Basketball Pll among the 30 voters. The Eagles were the conference s regular-season and tournament champion last year following a leaguebest 23-8 overall record and 13-3 mark in Big South games. Coastal Carolina, last year s regular-season and tournament runner-up, finished second in the voting with 187 points, just five points ahead of No. 3 High Point (182). Charleston Southern, which has reached the Advance Auto Parts Men s Basketball Championship semifinals the past two years, was predicted to finish fourth (121), while Liberty placed fifth in the voting (117). UNC Asheville was predicted sixth (100), followed by Radford (seventh) and VMI (eighth). Making the List Larry Blair earned preseason honors in seven different 2006 publications. Blair was named to the collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Preseason All-American Team. The guard also was selected Athlon Sports Big South Preseason Player of the Year along with being named to the Athlon Sports Big South All-All Preseason Team, Big South Conference All-Preseason Team, CBS Sportsline.com Big South All- Preseason Team, Lindy s Big South All-Preseason Second Team, Sporting News Big South All-Preseason Team and Street & Smith s Big South All-Preseason Team. Blair s Back On The Big South Team For the third-straight season, guard Larry Blair has been named to the Big South Preseason All-Conference team as he was one of five players named to the preseason all-conference squad. He was joined by Coastal Carolina s Jack Leasure, High Point s Arizona Reid and Winthrop s Torrell Martin and Craig Bradshaw, with Martin being named the league s Preseason Player of the Year. Blair, who received five first-place votes and 86 total points, has earned all-conference honors all of his three seasons at Liberty, including first-team accolades the past two years. He was second in overall conference scoring last season at 22.6 and averaged a league-high 24.2 points in 16 Big South games. He was one of only two players

Brewington On The Shelf To Start the Season Dwight Brewington, the junior transfer from Providence must sit out until the Flames December 16 game at St. Francis (Pa.) due to the NCAA transfer rule. Brewington One of Few Junior Dwight Brewington is one of three players at the Division I level that plays with some sort of hearing impairment. Brewington has 60% hearing loss in both ears and plays with hearing aids. Ryan Daniel of Lipscomb and Chris Devine of UC Santa Barbara join Brewington on this short list. Daniel is completely deaf and uses hearing aids, and Devine is deaf in one ear. The Flames December 21 game against Lipscomb presents a unique situation as Brewington and Daniel will meet on the court. Brewington Named Top Newcomer to the Big South Dwight Brewington was named the Top Newcomer to the Big South by Street & Smith s and CBS Sportsline.com. The Providence transfer averaged 13.1 points per game as a sophomore during the season. New to the Game Junior college transfer Alex McLean comes to Liberty via Suffolk Community College. The two years he spent at Suffolk in Long Island, N.Y., is the first organized basketball the Bay Shore, N.Y., native has played. McLean did not play basketball in high school. In his first game with the Flames, McLean scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds at Oklahoma on November 16. McLean is averaging 17.8 ppg and 9.5 rbg so far this season. Winters out Indefinitely Freshman Lamont Winters is out with a severe left ankle dislocation he suffered in August. There is no time table for the return of the Jamaica, N.Y. native. McLean Ties Vines Record Junior Alex McLean s 15 rebounds on November 21 versus Cincinnati Christian tied a Vines record. Peter Aluma grabbed 15 boards against Drake on December 5, 1996 and Parish Hickman collected 15 rebounds against Towson State on February 11, 1993.

7 Flames Facing New Foes This Year Liberty's season opener against Oklahoma was the first game of six this season versus an opponent Liberty has never previously faced. In addition to the Sooners, Liberty s non-conference schedule pits the Flames against Houghton College, Southern Virginia, BYU, Oral Roberts and Florida as first-time opponents on the hardwood. Larry Blair Against Top 25 Teams During Larry Blair s career, he has gone up against some of the top programs in the country and many times was the top perimeter guard. Early Signing Period Liberty Head Men s Basketball Coach Randy Dunton has announced that Nathan Campbell and Ehimen Orukpe have signed national letters of intent for the academic year. Campbell (6-6, 215, F, Cary, N.C.) is currently attending the prestigious Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., where he is averaging 13.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg through the first seven games of the season. Campbell is the first player to ever sign with Liberty out of Hargrave Military Academy, which has sent numerous of its alumni into the SEC, ACC and NBA, including Josh Howard of the Dallas Mavericks who attended Wake Forest after his days at Hargrave. Orukpe (7-0, 220, C, Delta, Nigeria) is currently playing for the Ebun Comet, one of the elite amateur club teams in Nigeria which showcased such talent as former Flames great Peter Aluma. Orukpe is currently averaging 12.0 ppg and 9.0 rpg a game for Ebun. Orukpe s current coach, Ayo Bakare, coached the 1998 Nigerian National Team, which included former Flame Julius Nwosu. Career Nights Against Southern Virginia Senior Damien Hubbard had a career-high three blocks, freshman B.J. Jenkins had a career-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, and redshirt freshman Tyler Baker had a carer-high 13 points against the Knights. 8 Liberty Men s Hoops To Participate In 2007 Great Alaska Shootout Liberty is one of eight teams that will take part in the 2007 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout scheduled for Nov at Anchorage s Sullivan Arena. In addition to Liberty, the eight-team field features host Alaska Anchorage, Butler, Gonzaga, Michigan, Texas Tech, Washington State and Western Kentucky. This will be the Flames second appearance at the Great Alaska Shootout. In 2003 the Flames went 1-2 at the event, scoring a victory against Canisius in the opening round before falling to No. 2 Duke, in the second round and Seton Hall in the third round. This Great Alaska Shootout field is certainly one of the strongest in recent years, said head coach Randy Dunton. The elite status of these programs will provide a fabulous experience for our team. The positives from competing against these programs will be a catalyst for our team s performance level, added Dunton. Dunton returns to Anchorage, where he began his coaching career in prolific fashion at the high school ranks, accumulating a career record of , good for a.779 winning percentage. Michigan, under sixth-year head coach Tommy Amaker, is currently 7-1 in and hoping to improve on its postseason NIT berth of last season. The Wolverines, who finished third in the 1987 Shootout, have won 12 Big Ten Conference titles and were the NCAA champions in Texas Tech, making its second Shootout appearance (1990) as well, is led by legendary coach Bob Knight. The Red Raiders are 6-2 so far this year, leaving Knight currently four wins shy of matching Dean Smith s NCAA record of 879 career victories. Texas Tech plays in the Big 12 Conference. Washington State has started 7-0 under new head coach Tony Bennett this season as the Cougars look to make strides in the always-tough Pacific-10 Conference. WSU will be making its first Shootout appearance since Perennial Sun Belt Conference power Western Kentucky is 6-1 thus far in behind the play of Wooden Award candidate Courtney Lee, who will be a senior at the 2007 Shootout. The Hilltoppers, coached by fourth-year head man Darrin Horn, will be making their inaugural Shootout trip. Host Alaska Anchorage will be looking for its 29th all-time victory in its own tournament when it tips off the 2007 event. Led by third-year head coach Rusty Osborne, the Division II Seawolves have won games in five straight Shootouts. UAA, which is 5-2 this season, plays in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
