Sophomore AJ Brodeur scored Penn s first 10 points in the game and finished with 15. Sophomore Ryan Betley ended up as Penn s leading scorer for the sixth game this season, with 16 points. It was his team-high ninth double-figure scoring game of the season. Two days after a 26-point game at Howard, senior Caleb Wood came off the bench with 10 points, his fourth double-figure scoring game this season. Senior Sam Jones scored nine points, a season high, on three three-pointers. He also had three rebounds. Notemeal from Howard Penn had two unanswered doublefigure scoring runs, a 10-0 run to end the half (eventually a 12-0 run as the Player Honors Ryan Betley (#21) Ivy League Player of the Week (11/27) second half started) and a 16-0 run in the second period that turned a game into a 20-point Penn advantage. Penn had 50 rebounds, the third time reaching that number this season. The Quakers +14 rebound margin was a season high. Penn had 20 assists on its 27 baskets; the Quakers 74.1 percentage was its second best this season, behind only the PSU-Brandywine game (27 assists on 34 baskets, 79.4 percent). The catalyst to the win was Wood, who knocked down six three-pointers and finished with a career-high 26 points (13 in each half). Betley picked up his second doubledouble of the season and third career with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Brodeur nearly got a double-double as well, with nine points to complement his season-best 10-rebound night. Freshman Jarrod Simmons also had nine points and added a season-high eight boards. 2 Notemeal from Villanova Penn took exactly as many shots from the field as Villanova and outrebounded the Wildcats, Nova had just one offensive rebound in the game, and the 32 boards tied as an opponent low for this season. Penn finished with season lows in points (62), field goals made (24), and rebounds (33). Brodeur led Penn in scoring, scoring 15 points and going 6-of-8 from the field. He became the fifth different player to lead the Quakers in scoring in a game already this season. Betley had his team-leading seventh double-figure scoring game, notching 11 points including a trio of treys. He also led all players in the game with eight rebounds, while Brodeur had seven. Despite foul trouble, junior Antonio Woods matched a season high with four assists in the game.

4 QUAKER NOTEMEAL FOR Notemeal from Monmouth This was just the second 4OT game in program history. The first took place on March 13, 1920 and Penn also won that one, over Princeton. Seventeen days later, the Quakers defeated the University of Chicago to be crowned national champion. (In other words, we are ready to pack our bags for San Antonio!) It marked the first season in program history (dating back to 1897) that Penn played two multi-overtime games; the Quakers lost to La Salle in two overtimes on November 13. It was Penn s first overtime win since February 18, 2012; the Quakers had lost seven OT games since then. Penn scored 101 points, its first tripledigit game since a win over Lafayette on January 16, Penn had 56 rebounds in the game, a high in the Donahue coaching era. A total of 79 fouls were called in the game, and the teams combined to take 101 foul shots. Penn was just 30-of-50 at the stripe, but Monmouth was even worse (24 of 51). In the OT periods, the Quakers were 12 of 18, while the Hawks were just 8 of 19 (including misses on all six of their free throws in the final minute of the fourth OT). Betley played 55 minutes and finished with 26 points, two shy of his career high. He knocked down a pair of treys in the third overtime and had seven points in that period, and finished with six three-pointers in the game which tied his career best. Woods took over point guard duties through much of the overtime periods and finished the night with 23 points which is a career high. He also had five rebounds, tying a career best. Freshman Eddie Scott ended up playing 36 minutes and finished with his first collegiate double-double (21 points, 13 rebounds). The 13 boards are the high by a Penn player this season, and he also was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field. Penn won despite playing the final 27 minutes without Brodeur and the final 22 minutes without Darnell Foreman, as both fouled out in regulation. They entered the game as the Quakers second and third-leading scorers. Notemeal from UMKC Junior Max Rothschild had another big game, leading the way with 16 points and also grabbing seven rebounds. Foreman finished with 11 points, once again tied his career high with eight rebounds he did that in every game at the GCS and dished off five assists against just one turnover. Junior Jackson Donahue was a massive part of this game, scoring all of his season-high 11 points in the game s final 13 minutes including treys on back-to-back possessions to turn a lead into a advantage. Brodeur had 11 points and set a season high with eight rebounds; he was the only Penn player to score in double figures in all three games at the GCS, and earned all-tournament. Notemeal from Towson The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Penn. After hitting 28 three-point shots in the previous two games 15 vs. PSU-Brandywine, 13 against Northern Illinois Penn made just six such shots and shot 33.3 percent beyond the arc. Betley had a season-high 25 points, three shy of his career high. It is his second game with 20 or more points this season. He also hit four threepointers, a season best. Foreman finished with 16 points, one shy of his season best. Wood had four assists, a career high, while Rothschild also had four. Notemeal from N. Illinois Penn went over the 90-point mark for the second-straight game; the last time the Quakers had consecutive 90-point outings was the season, when they scored 99 points at USC and followed up with 98 against Monmouth. Penn shot a staggering 13-of-24 from three-point land, a.542 percentage that is a high in the Donahue era. Overall, Penn shot 35-of-62, a.565 percentage which is second-best in the Donahue era behind only a.576 performance last year at Brown Quick Facts Name: University of Pennsylvania (Penn) Location (Zip): Philadelphia, Pa. 5 QUAKER NOTEMEAL FOR NCAA s Winningest Division I Programs (start of season) 1. Kentucky , Kansas , North Carolina , Duke , Temple , Syracuse , UCLA , Notre Dame , St. John s , Louisville , Indiana , BYU , Utah , Arizona , Illinois , Cincinnati , Texas , Western Kentucky , Penn , Purdue ,747 Rothschild set career highs in points (22), rebounds (12) and assists (5). He went 8-of-10 from the field. Brodeur broke out with 25 points, a season high, and added five rebounds and four assists. Brodeur was 10-of-16 from the field and knocked down three three-point shots. Wood knocked down four treys his fourth game this season with at least three and ended the night with 16 for his second double-figure scoring game of the season. Woods also knocked down four three-points shots a career high and finished Monday night with a seasonhigh 14 points. Foreman dished off seven assists, while Betley set a career best with five (without a turnover); as a team, the Quakers had 24 assists on 35 baskets. Notemeal from Brandywine The 59-point margin of victory was the largest in program history, surpassing a 51-point win over Cornell on 2/1/74. This was Penn s third time scoring at least 90 points in a game in the Steve Donahue coaching era. The other came on February 13, 2016 (92 at Cornell) and February 17, 2017 (96 at Brown). Penn s 56 first-half points were a high in the Donahue era and matched the most points by the Quakers in a half since they had 56 in the second half on February 13, 2016 at Cornell. For the second time this season, Penn took 39 three-point shots which is a program record for a game. The Quakers made 15, which was one shy of the team record and a high in the Donahue era. Penn had 27 assists on its 34 baskets; the 27 assists are a high in the Donahue era, and the 34 buckets tie a Donahueera high set originally against Brown last February 17. No player on the Penn roster played more than 15 minutes, and 15 of the 18 players who got into the game scored. For the third time in four games to start the season, Penn had a single-digit turnover total (8). Simmons not only scored his first collegiate points, he had 14 by halftime and finished the day with 16. He became the 13th different player on the Penn roster to reach double figures in the scoring column in a game in their Quakers career. Sophomore Kuba Mijakowski scored his first career points on a three-pointer in the second half and ended the game with eight points and six rebounds. Sophomore Zack Kaminsky also scored his first collegiate point, on a free throw. Notemeal from Navy The win was Penn s largest over Navy since a win in Annapolis on December 7, Navy had just four assists, an opponent low in the Donahue era, and Penn blocked seven shots which was one shy of the program high in the Donahue era. Wood scored 13 points, tying for game-high honors. It was his personal high since scoring 15 last November at Navy. 16 of the 19 players who dressed for the Red and Blue hit the court, with 11 of them tallying at least two points. Freshman Eddie Scott scored his first collegiate points and added three rebounds and a steal in 11 minutes. Betley had an 11-game streak of double-figure scoring games snapped, as he finished with nine points in just 15 minutes of action. 5 Notemeal from La Salle This was the fourth overtime game in the Steve Donahue era at Penn, with the Quakers dropping each. There were 12 lead changes and 10 ties in the game. It was Penn s first double-overtime battle since Feb. 5, 2011 a one-point loss to Harvard and the first 2OT Big 5 game since Feb. 9, 1983 against Temple. The Quakers are now 6-8 all-time in OT games against Big 5 foes. Penn featured balance scoring from its core, with all of the starters scoring in double figures. For the second time this season, Penn excelled in taking care of the ball, owning single-digit turnovers with just seven against the Explorers (one shy of the team low in the Donahue era). A handful of Quakers played career highs in minutes with the game pushing into double overtime, including Betley (46), Brodeur (46), Foreman (44), Woods (31) and Rothschild (38). Rothschild had his best statistical performance since his freshman year with 14 points and 11 rebounds, his second career double-double. (The other came on Feb. 6, 2016 against Harvard.) His 14 points were the most since March 4, 2016 and his 11 rebounds were the most since one day later (March 5, 2016). Foreman tied a career high with eight rebounds and three steals, while Woods tied a career best with five boards; Brodeur tied his high with three steals; and Betley tied a career high with two blocked shots. Notemeal from Fairfield As a team, Penn set a single-game record for three-point attempts with 39. The Quakers made just nine of them, however, a 23.1 percentage. Penn used 13 of the 15 players who dressed for the game, with 12 of them seeing action in the first half. Betley finished with a double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) to lead the Quakers. It was his second doubledouble, as he also had one in the season finale against Princeton. Foreman scored 17 points, two shy of his career high.

6 QUAKER NOTEMEAL FOR Brodeur scored 13 points and was the other player with four assists. Wood missed his first three-point attempt of the game but made his next three to finish with nine points. In his first game action since January 2, 2016, Woods got the start and ended up playing eight minutes. He had two assists, a rebound and a steal and missed his only shot. Preseason Notemeal Overall, Penn returns nearly 82 percent of its scoring from a year ago (1,577 of 1,928 points). That doesn t include junior Antonio Woods, who averaged 10.7 ppg in 13 games to start and was not on the roster last year. Penn has 12 players on the roster who have at least one double-figure scoring game in college, including six who have had at least one 20-point game wearing the Red and Blue and five who have had at least one double-double. Any talk about the Quakers ahead of has to start with sophomore AJ Brodeur. As a freshman, he led the team in scoring (13.8 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg) and earned second-team All- Ivy and All-Big 5. On defense, Brodeur blocked 66 shots which is the program s new single-season record. Another sophomore, Ryan Betley, came on strong after missing the first nine games due to injury. In fact, he hit double figures in each of the Quakers last eight games (17.8 ppg) and ended the season with a double-double (18 points, 12 rebounds) in Penn s Ivy League Tournamen loss to Princeton. Senior Darnell Foreman played in all 28 games last year, leading the Quakers with 96 assists while also averaging 8.3 points per game and collecting 22 steals. His 2.07 assist/turnover ratio in Ancient Eight play was second among Ivy players. Junior Jackson Donahue has led Penn in three-point baskets each of the last two seasons, including 47 last year when he averaged 6.9 points per game. Another gunner is senior Sam Jones, who has 133 career treys including a high of seven in one game. Sophomore Devon Goodman scored just 18 points in Penn s first 15 games, but averaged 6.6 ppg and had 37 assists over the Quakers last 13 contests. Junior Max Rothschild averaged 3.8 points and 3.0 rebounds last year; he has two double-doubles at Penn. Three other players on the roster played in at least 20 games last year: junior Tyler Hamilton (24) and a pair of transfers who enter their last year of eligibility, Matt MacDonald (20) and Caleb Wood (20). MacDonald is a second-year captain. Penn added four players to the roster this year: Mark Jackson, Eddie Scott, Jarrod Simmons, and Jelani Williams Schedule Notes Penn played nine games in November, a record. In an informal survey of basketball SIDs around the country, only Chicago State (10) played more before the calendar turns. Penn is in the midst of a 39-day break between home games. That is matched by only one other team nationally. Ironically, it s Ivy rival Harvard. When Penn returns home on December 27 following that lengthy break, that is the start of a staggering nine games in a row in The Palestra including five in Ivy play. The nine-game homestand will run until the Quakers play at Princeton on Tuesday, February 6. That ll be 59 days after the previous road game, December 9 at Dayton. In an informal survey of the basketball SIDs around the country, the 59-day stretch between road games is the longest in the nation this season. Penn s game with Villanova (Nov. 29) will be played at the Wildcats Jake Nevin Fieldhouse as their regular home venue, the Pavilion, gets a complete renovation this season. This will the Quakers first time playing men s basketball in the Nevin Fieldhouse. There are plenty of new teams this year. Penn meets PSU-Brandywine (Nov. 18), Northern Illinois (Nov. 20) and Toledo (Dec. 29) for the first time ever, while their games with Howard (Dec. 4) and Dayton (Dec. 9) are just the second in history and their meetings with Fairfield (Nov. 11) and Delaware State (Dec. 27) are just the third ever. For the second year in a row, Penn will make a trip to Florida. (Actually, it ll be the third trip to Florida in two years; the Quakers had separate trips to Miami and UCF last season.) This year the trip comes on Thanksgiving week, as the Quakers travel to Estero to participate in the Gulf Coast Showcase from November When Penn plays Temple (Jan. 20), head coach Steve Donahue will match wits against his former boss at Penn, Fran Dunphy; when the Quakers play Lafayette (Dec. 6), he will match up against Fran O Hanlon, with whom he shared bench space when they were assistants at Penn. By calendar date, Penn s January 5 game against Princeton at The Palestra will represent the earliest meeting between these Ivy rivals since they met on January 5, For the second-straight season, both Penn basketball programs will be part of Ivy League doubleheaders that do not involve Princeton. This year they will take place against Cornell and Columbia, as both Quaker teams host the Big Red and Lions on January and then travel to face Columbia and Cornell on February

13 STEVE DONAHUE, John R. Rockwell Head Coach PASSION. GRATITUDE. UNITY. COMPETITIVENESS. HUMILITY. Now in his third season as the John R. Rockwell Head Coach of the University of Pennsylvania men s basketball program, these are the five core values that Steve Donahue has established for the players, coaches and staff affiliated with the program that are under his stewardship. Steve Donahue was introduced as the John R. Rockwell Head Coach of Men s Basketball on March 17, 2015 and enters his third season as the 20th head coach in program history. Donahue s hiring marked a return to Penn for the Delaware County native; he was an assistant coach for the Quakers under Fran Dunphy from until During that 10-year span, Penn won six Ivy League titles including four separate undefeated conference campaigns, compiling a overall record that included a mark in Ivy play. Having been a part of Philadelphia and Penn basketball for the greater part of my life, I have a great passion for this city and this program, said Donahue. I spent 10 extraordinary years as an assistant here at Penn working with one of the great head coaches in all of college basketball, Fran Dunphy. That, combined with my experiences as head coach at Cornell and Boston College, have led me to this distinct opportunity to return the program that I grew up watching to national prominence. I plan to provide the energy and the enthusiasm that will put Penn basketball back atop the Ivy League. Donahue left Penn to become head coach at Cornell ahead of the season. He stayed in Ithaca for 10 years, gradually building the Big Red program up until the table was set for a three-year run that included a trio of Ivy League titles; a overall record that included a 38-4 Ivy mark; and three NCAA Tournament appearances that included a run to the Sweet 16 in Donahue was the Clair Bee National Coach of the Year and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 4 Coach of the Year in ; and the NABC District 4 Coach of the Year and United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) District II Coach of the Year in , when his team went 14-0 in Ivy League play to become just the third program in Ancient Eight history to achieve an unbeaten conference season (also Penn and Princeton). While at Cornell, Donahue coached and/or recruited seven of the school s top 13 all-time leading scorers; two Ivy League Player of the Year selections; two Ivy League Rookie of the Year selections; eight NABC All-District selections; six Academic All-District players; and two Academic All- Americans. Following that Sweet 16 campaign, Donahue left Cornell to become head coach at Boston College. He spent four years at The Heights, going his first season and getting the Eagles to the NIT. In , he boasted the consensus ACC Rookie of the Year in Olivier Hanlan. Prior to his arrival at Penn for the season, Donahue was an assistant under legendary coach Herb Magee at Philadelphia University for two seasons and helped the Rams to a pair of 20-win seasons and the NCAA Division II Tournament. Before that, Donahue was as an assistant for current Lafayette head coach Fran O Hanlon at Monsignor Bonner High School, helping to guide Bonner to the Philadelphia Catholic League title. He began his coaching career at Springfield (Pa.) High School. Donahue is a 1984 Ursinus College graduate, where he was a four-year letterman in both basketball and baseball for the Bears and captain of the basketball team as a senior. His freshman season, Donahue helped the basketball team finish 23-8 and advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament semifinal round. His sophomore year, the Bears were NCAA quarterfinalists. Donahue and his wife, Pamela, have four children: Taylor, Matthew, Katie and Jack. When I m attacking the basket, I ask my guys, Are you 95 percent certain that you re going to make this or get fouled? If they re not, there are mechanisms in place to find my second thing: a standstill, in-rhythm three. The third thing is a post-up with two feet in the lane, one on one. If you get that, great; if not, it should be kicked. So everything we do evolves from that. With that in mind, we decided to chart the number of two-point field-goal attempts, three-point field-goal attempts, and foul shots that Penn has taken this season and throughout Donahue s career as head coach. 19 GAME RECAPS GAME 1 at Fairfield 80, Penn 72 Nov. 11, 2017 BRIDGEPORT, Conn. Penn led by as much as 12 early (26-14) and was still up before Fairfield scored the next 10 points from four different players and took a lead. It was at halftime Fairfield s lead was when Penn made a move. Ryan Betley hit a layup, then Jackson Donahue scored inside (missing the and-1 foul shot). Darnell Foreman completed the 6-0 run, and a Caleb Wood trey tied the game at with 9:10 left. Fairfield scored, Penn turned it over, and a foul was called on Max Rothschild when Tyler Nelson took a three-point shot and kicked his legs out to create contact. Nelson made all three shots, and another Penn turnover led to a Stags bucket that put them up by seven. The entire sequence took less than a minute, and the Quakers could not make it up. Two Quick Notes... Penn took 39 three-point shots, a program record for a single game. Sophomore Ryan Betley picked up where he left off last season, with a double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds). Penn grabbed the first lead in the second overtime period with two free throws from Max Rothschild the second coming after two La Salle lane violations nullified missed free throws by the junior before La Salle evened things up at Antonio Woods hit 1-of-2 free throws for a lead, Penn s last of the night as Amar Stukes took over for the Explorers. First he hit two free throws for a lead, then a floater in the lane after a Woods miss to give La Salle a three-point lead. The game stayed close, but the Explorers kept Penn at arm s length. The Quakers got as close as with five seconds left on a Caleb Wood trey, but Isiah Deas sealed the game with two foul shots. Two Quick Notes... The teams traded points for the rest of the half, and Penn took a lead into halftime. After going 11-of-30 (36.7 percent) in the first half, NIU were 19-of-32 (59.4 percent) in the second period. Bolstered by one particular stretch that saw Penn go cold, Northern used a 10-2 run to turn a Penn lead to a more precarious 11 points (60-49) with less than 12 minutes to play. Penn regrouped, however, as Ryan Betley and Wood sandwiched a pair of three-point baskets around a beautiful Betley feed that led to a Brodeur layup. That made the score 70-54, and the Quakers seems to regain their confidence. NIU got within 11 just one more time. Two Quick Notes... UMKC woke up and scored 10 of the next 12 points to get within two, at At 15-13, Penn scored nine of the next 11 points en route to a lead at the half. Ryan Betley opened the secondhalf scoring with a free throw, but the Kangaroos scored the next seven points to make it a game and force a Penn timeout. It was still before Jackson Donahue back-to-back three-pointers. That lead expanded to with less than nine minutes, but UMKC reeled off 10 straight points over a span of 2:20 and the advantage was a precarious with more than six to play. At that point Donahue and Foreman made it 60-51, and the lead expanded to with 3:55 to play. UMKC mounted a furious rally, but a final trey to tie was off the mark. Two Quick Notes... Penn finished the Gulf Coast Showcase with a 2-1 record and took third place in the event. A true epic, as Penn gave up a 15-point second-half lead only to regain a late lead and then see Monmouth drain a running bank shot to force overtime. Penn had an open look to win it at the buzzer in the first OT, but Devon Goodman s three-point shot missed. The second OT ended on an Eddie Scott putback that sent the game to a third OT. The third overtime ended when Monmouth drained a contested trey at the buzzer, and the Hawks used that momentum to build a five-point lead to start the fourth extra session. However, Penn scored the final 10 points of the game to gain the road win. Two Quick Notes... It was Penn s second-ever 4OT game; the first took place on March 13, Freshman Eddie Scott recorded his first collegiate double-double (21 pts, 13 rbs) and went 8-of-8 from the field. 22 GAME RECAPS GAME 10 Penn 81, at Howard 68 Dec. 4, 2017 WASHINGTON, D.C. Penn shot poorly and were turnover-prone early. As a result, Howard led by as much as 11 points with a little more than four minutes to play in the first half. At that point, Caleb Wood drained a pair of treys around an Antonio Woods bucket for an 8-0 run. R.J. Cole got three back the old-fashioned way for the Bison, but the Red and Blue answered with 10 more in a row to lead at the half, The run extended into the second half, as the Quakers continued to pour it on especially from beyond the arc. Wood alone knocked down six treys and proved to be the catalyst to what was a blitz that pushed Penn s lead to 20, at Howard got within nine points on four occasions down the stretch, but Penn was able to keep the Bison at bay. Two Quick Notes... Penn had two unanswered double-figure scoring runs, 10-0 in the first half and 16-0 in the second half. A 13-3 Quakers run, punctuated by two Sam Jones treys, turned a deficit into a lead. Penn never trailed again, and took a advantage into halftime. Lafayette s final charge came in the final three minutes. Penn s lead was 70-59, before the Leopards Justin Jaworski hit a trey. That set them off on a 9-0 run that was complemented by empty Penn possessions and missed free throws. With 20 seconds left the ball was inbounded to Ryan Betley, who was fouled immediately, and the sophomore calmly knocked down both shots to make it a two-possession game. Alex Petrie missed a trey attempt at the other end, and AJ Brodeur was fouled as he grabbed the rebound. He made one of the two free throws, and that set the final score as the Pards missed two final shots. Two Quick Notes... This was Penn s second win in a row over Lafayette, after losing the last four in the series to the Leopards before that. 25 DID YOU KNOW... Penn entered the season tied for 19th on the NCAA Division I list of all-time winningest programs? The Quakers had 1,747 victories in program history at the start of the season. 1. They are Matt Langel (Colgate), Fran McCaffery (Iowa), and Andrew Toole (Robert Morris). From , Penn went overall, a.799 win percentage? The only schools with better win percentages during that decade were UCLA (273-27,.910) and Marquette (252-40,.863). UNC was fourth (.786), while Kentucky was fifth (.764). Penn s team holds a unique distinction in the annals of college basketball? That Quaker squad went 28-1 overall, losing in the NCAA Tournament East Regional final to Villanova. The Wildcats would later vacate the win due to the use of an ineligible player in the game. Thus, in the NCAA s eyes, Penn s record that year is 28-0 making them the only undefeated team in history to play in the NCAA Tournament but not win it. (There have been undefeated teams that did NOT play in the NCAA Tournament, most notably Kentucky in and N.C. State in ) Penn holds the second-longest conference winning streak in NCAA Division I history? The Quakers won 48 straight Ivy League games from , including three straight 14-0 seasons in , and The overall record for conference wins is held by UCLA, which won 50 straight Pac-10 games from Penn is the only team to defeat the University of North Carolina in an NCAA Tournament game played in the state of North Carolina? On March 11, 1979, the ninth-seeded Quakers defeated the top-seeded Tar Heels, 72-71, in an East Regional second-round game played at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh. (That day is known by fans on Tobacco Road as Black Sunday, as second-seeded Duke also lost at Reynolds, to St. John s.) UNC has played 33 other NCAA Tournament games in the state during its history, and won them all. Penn s team is considered that year s national champion? The Quakers went 20-0 during the regular season, clinching the EIL title with a four-overtime win over Princeton (still the most OTs played in program history). Penn then met the Western champion, the University of Chicago, in a best-of-three series to determine the national champion. The Quakers lost the first game in Chicago, 28-24, but rebounded to win Game 2 in Philadelphia, The rubber game was played in Princeton, N.J., with Penn coming out on top, Later, the Quakers were awarded the Helms Foundation National Championship. Penn s home court, The Palestra, has hosted 48 NCAA Tournament games? The first were the East Regional in the tournament s first year, The most recent took place in 1984, when Penn hosted an opening-round tripleheader. Penn is the most recent Ivy League team to reach the Final Four; the Quakers did it in When Koko Archibong took the floor for Nigeria at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he became the first Penn basketball player to play in the Olympics? The 2003 graduate was joined in London by fellow Quaker Susan Francia, a two-time Gold Medalwinning rower for the United States. Penn was a part of arguably the most famous Final Four in history? The Quakers joined Magic Johnson s Michigan State team and Larry Bird s Indiana State team in Provo, Utah, that year. Penn was beaten by the Spartans in the semifinal round. The fourth team in that Final Four? DePaul, which beat Penn in OT in a consolation game. Hall of Fame coach Chuck Daly was once the head coach at Penn? Before he won a pair of NBA titles as head coach of the Detroit Pistons in 1989 and 1990, and before he headed up the Dream Team at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Daly spent six years at the Quaker helm, going (including a Ivy League mark) and winning four Ivy titles. Penn can count among its alums the Executive Director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), Jim Haney? He graduated in 1971 and earned the Bus McDonald Award (Most Inspirational Player) as a senior. The Quakers were (38-4 Ivy, 9-3 Big 5) during Haney s career, including a staggering 53-3 (28-0 Ivy, Big 5) his last two years. 25
