The win was also their first BIG EAST road win of the season. The Scarlet Knights are led in scoring and assists by Juan Pablo Correa with four goals and five assists for 13 points. Kene Eze leads the team in goals with five on the year. Kevin McMullen leads Rutgers in goal with a 1.44 goals against average. He has one shutout on the year and 31 saves. THE SERIES Louisville leads the overall series with the Scarlet Knights The Cardinals have won three of the last four meeting with Rutgers. The Cardinals own a record against the Scarlet Knights in Cardinal Park. Louisville has not surrendered a game to Rutgers since 2008, the only loss of series for the Cardinals. Under head coach Ken Lolla the Cardinals own a record against the Scarlet Knights. Last season the Cardinals defeated Rutgers 2-1 on the road. The last time the two teams played in Cardinal Park, the Cards walked away with a 2-0 victory. LAST MATCH FOR THE CARDS The No. 13 Louisville men s soccer team fell 3-1 to No. 9 USF on Tuesday night in Cardinal Park. The Cardinals fell behind 3-0 early in the first half after scoring two own goals and were unable to recover. USF got on the board when Kevin Olali scored at the 1:47 minute mark off a deflection. After the goal the Bulls kept the offensive pressure on the Cardinals. The Bulls had the wind at their advantage, blowing south toward their intended goal in the first half. The wind played a role in the second goal by the Bulls. In the 13th minute the Cardinal defense cleared a corner kick from the goal mouth but it blew into the goal putting the Bulls up 2-0. Then in the 20th minute the Louisville defense went to clear a ball and slid it into the goal past Andre Boudreaux. Twenty seconds after the third goal, Nick DeLeon brought the ball up the right side of the field and blasted one past the keeper for the goal, but it was called back due to an offsides call. USF went into the locker room with a 3-0 lead. Louisville finished the half with a 12-5 shot advantage. Boudreaux finished with three saves while USF s Chris Blais finished with one. The Cardinals came out the second half attacking the USF defense. Louisville kept possession the majority of the final period but could not convert on its chances. In the 60th minute, Colin Rolfe was taken down from behind just inside the box. Rolfe had to be carried off the field. The Cards were awarded a penalty kick but no card was issued to USF. DeLeon took the penalty kick from the Cardinals and blasted it past Blais into the top left corner of the net. Louisville continued to press offensively but the Bulls had packed it in defensively to hold off the Cardinals. Louisville finished the game with a shot advantage but only had two shots on goal. USF held a 5-2 corner kick advantage. Boudreaux finished with five saves while Blais finished with one save. CARDINAL QUICK HITS Ken Lolla COACHING CORNER Sixth season Personal Hometown: Brick, N.J. CARDS RALLY THE FIRST IN SCHOOL HISTORY When Louisville rallied for the 3-2 overtime win at Indiana after falling behind 2-0, it marked the first time the Cards overcame a two-goal deficit to claim a road victory since at least the 1984 season (box scores unavailable prior to 1989). In the latter contest, the Cards found themselves down 2-0 at home in the 11th minute after the Flyers scored twice in 27 seconds, but countered with four scores in the second half to pull out the win. Cochrane was able to play with the Cardinals in the spring season and earned a starting role that was left vacant with the graduation of JT Murray. Cochrane earned the starting nod in the fall as well. The junior started both exhibition games and secured his spot in the starting lineup in the season opener. Cochrane has helped the Cardinal defense register seven shutouts on the year. Roman got a late start for the Cardinals missing the first game while recovering from an injury. Roman scored his first goal of the season in his first game against Wake Forest. He has started in seven games in the midfield for the Cards and is tied at second on the team with three goals this season. FRESHMEN IMPACTS Redshirt freshman Will Vitalis earned a starting spot in his first debut as a Cardinal. The homegrown player sat out last fall as a redshirt but was impressive during the spring season, also earning a spot in the starting lineup. Vitalis has started in 10 games for the Cardinals. ROLFE SETS A CAREER-HIGH AGAINST BUTLER Senior Colin Rolfe tied a Louisville record with three assists in the Cardinals 4-0 victory over Butler on Sept. 17, needing just 32 minutes of field time to match the mark set by current junior Paolo DelPiccolo on Oct. 31, 2009, at Villanova. In the 24th minute, Rolfe won a ball in the midfield while falling to the turf and sent it right to Will Vitalis, who led Michael Roman with a perfect pass culminating in U of L s second goal. In the 71st, Alexander Obbey found Rolfe down the right sideline, where the Hermann Trophy candidate delivered an on-the-money cross to a waiting Buck Tufty in the box for Louisville s third tally. Less than three minutes later, Rolfe s header following a DelPiccolo corner caromed off a Bulldog defender and right to Chase Rodgers in the six-yard box, who snuck his shot between the legs of Butler player on the goal stripe for the contest s final score. Rolfe had three of Louisville s eight assists on the day, a new school record. The previous high had been seven, achieved against Xavier in 1991 and versus DePaul in It marked the third time in Cardinal history the squad scored two or more goals in a game and recorded two assists on every one, with all three occasions coming in the last two seasons (also against West Virginia and NC State last year, with two goals and four assists in each). Rolfe s final assist allowed the senior to pass Ali Elwakhi ( ) for third place on the U of L career points list. He now has 66 points on 26 goals and 14 assists over his four seasons in Louisville. Through the Sept weekend s games, Rolfe is one of 12 players nationally to put together a three-assist game this year. Charles Schwartz of Drake is the only to have notched four in a contest, doing so against San Diego on Sept. 2.
