The Huskies won the inaugural Championship in 1981 and also took home the championship trophy in The Huskies have made nine appearances in the national semifinal. Champ Semifinal Final Final Nat. Champ UConn in the First Round The Huskies sport a 14-7 mark in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. UConn has lost in the first round in each of the last two years but won its previous three first round contests. The Huskies are familiar with the first and second round venue as the team has traveled to College Park, Md. for the first and second rounds in each of the last three years. The team also competed in College Park during the 2007 National Semifinal. UConn in the BIG EAST Tournament The Huskies are all-time in BIG EAST Tournament play. The Huskies have won 11 of the 21 BIG EAST Tournaments they have appeared in. In fact, Connecticut has made it to the championship game in 18 of the 21 tournaments it has played in. The Huskies have a remarkable.744 winning percentage in the BIG EAST Tournament. The team with the secondhighest winning percentage is Syracuse at.478. UConn vs. Ranked Opponents in 2010 Connecticut has posted a 7-4 record against opponents ranked in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll this season. The Huskies highest-ranked victim in 2010 was Princeton, who fell 4-2 to UConn, when the Tigers were ranked No. 4 nationally. Most recently, Connecticut defeated American by a 3-1 count on September 5, Huskies Rated No. 5 in the RPI UConn is rated No. 5 in the latest edition of the RPI as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday, November 9. Maryland is rated No. 1 while North Carolina is ranked No. 2. Virginia and Syracuse round out the top-five. UConn has played six of the RPI s top-10 teams this season and is 3-3 against those teams. Again The University of Connecticut field hockey program is in its 32nd year of existence and UConn has won at least 15 games in 23 of those 32 seasons. The Huskies, 15-5, have won 15 games for the ninth year in-a-row. 15 of those 15-win seasons have come under Nancy Stevens. In fact, UConn has posted at least 15 wins in 15 of the last 17 seasons under Stevens.

3 Huskies Clean Up at BIG EAST Banquet Seven different Huskies won a total of nine conference awards at the 2010 BIG EAST Banquet. Five Huskies earned a spot on the first team and Melissa Gonzalez was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. Goalkeeper of the Year Sarah Mansfield Defensive Player of the Year Melissa Gonzalez First Team Jestine Angelini Melissa Gonzalez Rayell Heistand Anne Jeute Sarah Mansfield Second Team Ali Blankmeyer Cara Silverman Jeute Helps Fill the Void Freshman forward Anne Jeute, an All-BIG EAST First Team selection, is second on the team with 12 goals and leads the squad with 30 points. She is also second with six assists. The Huskies came into 2010 unsure who was going to fill the void left by the departure of First Team All-American Loren Sherer, who put together one of the finest seasons in school history last season. Sherer finished 2009 with 32 goals and 18 assists for 82 points. While Jeute hasn t quite matched those numbers, she has given Connecticut a go-to scorer. Jeute had one of her best games of her young career on October 30 vs. Rutgers as she scored three goals and added an assist in UConn s 6-0 victory over the Scarlet Knights. Mansfield as Good as Advertised Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Mansfield has also done her part in helping replace an important player who departed after So much so that she was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and honored on the All-BIG EAST First Team. Last year s net-minder, Andrea Mainiero was honored as an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection after posting a record to go along with seven shutouts and a 1.09 goals against average. Mansfield has stepped right in to post six shutouts and a 15-5 overall mark to go along with a 0.87 goals against average. Mansfield Angulo and Angelini Move Up the Charts Sophomore Allison Angulo and junior Jestine Angelini have each been creeping up the Huskies all-time assists chart this season. Angulo has assisted on eight of UConn s goals in 2010 and Angelini leads the way for Connecticut with 12 helpers. Angulo is 12th on the all-time assists list with 26 while Angelini is 21st with is only Angelini s second season at UConn as she transferred in from Old Dominion following her freshman season. Silverman as Good as Gold in 2010 Junior forward Cara Silverman is second on the team with 11 goals this season and leads the team with four game-winners. She has also dished-out a pair of assists and is second on the squad with 24 points. Sarah Mansfield and Rayell Heistand have each captured defensive player of the week honors twice and Jestine Angelini once. Anne Jeute was also honored as offensive player of the week once. As a team, UConn is first in goals against average (.77), sixth in scoring margin (+2.2), third in shutouts per game (.4), and fourth in save percentage (.802).
