THE SERIES Tonight s game will be the 19th meeting on the hardwood between the schools with Louisiana holding a 13-5 lead. The Ragin Cajuns have won the last six meetings in the series and have won four of the last five games in Troy, including the last two at Trojan Arena. THE OPPONENT Troy (9-18, 4-12 Sun Belt) saw its two-game winning streak snapped this past Saturday with a loss at Appalachian State. Wesley Person is one of four Trojans who average double figures on the season. He leads the way scoring at a 17.6 per-game clip, while Jordon Varnado is averaging 13.6 per game, John Walton III nets 10.9 per game and Jeremy Hollimon adds 10.6 per game. But the last two Ragin Cajuns squads have ramped off the offense, scoring 81.0 points per game in (the highest since ppg.) and 77.5 points per game last season to rank 16th nationally. This season s team is no different as the Ragin Cajuns have averaged 80.4 points per game to rank 24th among Division I programs. LONG NAMED TO KARL MALONE WATCH LIST: Louisiana Ragin Cajuns men s basketball player Shawn Long was recently named as one of 10 watch list finalists for the 2016 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award in an announcement by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Named after Hall of Famer and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Karl Malone, the annual honor in its second year recognizes the top power forwards in Division I men s college basketball. A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in October, which has now been narrowed to 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Malone and the Hall of Fame s selection committee for the 2016 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award. The winner of the 2016 Karl Malone Award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy s from Club Nokia in Los Angeles, Calif., on Friday, April 8, Broadcast information will be released at a later date. TEAMS PLAY FAST UNDER MARLIN: During Bob Marlin s 22-year tenure as a head coach, that includes three trips to the NCAA Tournament, his teams have employed an fast-paced style of basketball that has averaged 78.3 points per game during that span. His teams have averaged over 70 points per game 21 of the 22 years. This year s team is averaging 80.4 points per game - the second-highest scoring output since Marlin was named the Ragin Cajuns head coach in GLASS CLEANERS: The Ragin Cajuns finished as the top-rebounding team in the Sun Belt Conference with a +6.4 rebounding margin, and the squad is no different as they are second in the league and 21st among Division I schools with an +7.6 margin. The Ragin Cajuns have outrebounded 20 of their 25 opponents this season, with 10 games with a 10-rebound or greater margin. KEEPING IT IN THE BAYOU STATE: The Ragin Cajuns roster is loaded with in-state players, with 10 players coming from within the state of Louisiana. Six players - Hayward Register (Lafayette), Shawn Long (Morgan City), Johnathan Stove (Baton Rouge), Tiremone Williams (Abbeville), Frank Bartley IV (Baton Rouge) and Jacob Broussard (Lafayette) are from cities within an 1-hour drive from Lafayette with Steven Wronkoski (Hammond), Bryce Washington (New Orleans) and Scott Plaisance (New Orleans) within a 2-hour trek.

4 CLOSE NOT ENOUGH FOR CAJUNS IN : After posting a 3-8 record in games decided by five points or less in , the Ragin Cajuns reversed course in en route to their first 20-win season in over a decade, going 7-3. The edition of the Ragin Cajuns finished 4-4 in games decided by five points of less with three wins (Little Rock, Troy, Sam Houston State) coming on the road. During the season, Louisiana is 0-4 in games decided by five points or less, including three straight defeats by a combined nine points. TROPHY MARLIN: Head coach Bob Marlin is in his sixth season at the helm of the Ragin Cajuns with his past two teams equaling the most wins (45) since a period from which saw then-usl post records of ( ) and ( ). Under Marlin s guidance, the Ragin Cajuns have made three postseason appearances in the past four years, including a berth in the 2014 NCAA Championships. Could play for any team in the country. -- MN HOW WAS YOUR SUMMER, SHAWN LONG?: After announcing that he would be bypassing the 2015 NBA Draft, Shawn Long went back to work in getting ready for his final season in a Ragin Cajuns uniform. The three-year starter participated in the NIKE Skills Camp in California before being named as one of only seven collegians to play for the U.S. men s basketball team that claimed the bronze medal at the 2015 Pan American Games. Long made his debut for the U.S. Men s Basketball Pan American team on July 23 as he came off the bench to score five points with a rebound in a rout of Puerto Rico. 100-POINT GAMES: The Ragin Cajuns have scored 100 points in 131 games in its 103rd season of basketball and through the first six games of the season, the Cajuns have eclipsed the 100-point barrier twice. In all, UL is in games in which it has scored 100 points. McGUIRE JOINS CAJUNS: Three-time All-Sun Belt Conference football player Elijah McGuire joined the Ragin Cajuns basketball team on Jan. 18. McGuire, the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year in football, last played basketball as a senior at Vandebilt Catholic High School, where he was a threetime all-district selection and averaged 17 points per game as a senior. NEW CAJUNS: Bob Marlin and his staff have added a pair of players during the early signing period. Louisiana received nine of the 11 first-place votes and scored 119 points to finish ahead of defending champion Georgia State. HOME SECURITY: In each of the past seven seasons, the Ragin Cajuns have posted double-digit win totals in the friendly confines of the Cajundome, including an 11-1 mark in During the season, the Cajuns posted a 12-3 record, one season after a posting a 13-2 mark - their best win total in the Dome since going 13-4 in The 13 wins marked the third time that has occurred ( , ). Matt Marlin joined the team as a walk-on this season and will have one year remaining after attending the University of Texas. The younger Marlin played his high school ball at College Park (Texas) High School, including his senior season in when his father was spending his first year in Lafayette. The Marlin duo is the third current father/ son-daughter combo for Ragin Cajuns athletics in joining head football coach Mark Hudspeth (son, Gunner - Fr., QB) and head softball coach Michael Lotief (daughter, Chelsea - Fr., OF). LONG OWNS CAJUNS, SUN BELT BOARD RECORDS: Shawn Long has been a rebounding machine during his three-plus seasons in a Ragin Cajuns uniform, averaging 10.8 rebounds per game for his career. Against Alabama on Nov. 20, Long became the school s all-time leading rebounder, passing Roy Ebron (1,064) before passing former South Alabama standout Augustine Rubit as the Sun Belt Conference s all-time leading rebounder. Long has pulled down 1,360 rebounds in his career. CAJUNS TURN IT ON BEFORE THE MADNESS: Since his arrival as head coach, Bob Marlin has led Louisiana to a record in all games played during the months of February and March, including a 23-9 mark in the past two-plus seasons. In , the Ragin Cajuns were 3-5 in Sun Belt Conference games at the end of January before winning six straight games and 11 of their final 14 in reaching the NCAA Championships. The edition of the Ragin Cajuns won seven of their final nine regularseason games, including the final six.
