Coming off a Sun Belt championship season, Georgia State will open a highlyanticipated campaign on Friday night hosting Tennessee Temple in the GSU Sports Arena at 7 p.m. It will mark the Panthers only home game during the month of November. Georgia State welcomes back three starters from last year along with 10 newcomers who earned a pair of exhibition game wins by an average of 26.5 points. The Panthers are overwhelming favorites to repeat as Sun Belt champions, however head coach Ron Hunter knows that there are a lot of games between now and March. Friday just represents game one, Hunter said. We cannot fast forward to March 15 (the day of the Sun Belt championship game) nor can we deviate from the process. If we do not take it one game at a time and work to continue to get better every day, we will not have a chance to reach our ultimate goal. Tennessee Temple is a very good program that already has a pair of wins under its belt this season. They are going to come into the Sports Arena and give us their best shot like we know that everyone will this season. Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year R.J. Hunter enters his junior year already in the top 15 in several career statistical categories in Georgia State history. He is 13th in points (1,131), 11th in free throws made (246), third in free throw percentage (83.4), fourth in 3pointers (173), fourth in 3point attempts (453), seventh in 3point percentage (38.2) and ninth in steals (116). He will also move into the top 10s of field goals made, field goals attempted and games started early in the season. Hunter recorded a doubledouble of 20 points and 10 rebounds in the Georgia State s exhibition win over Shorter on Monday night. Harrow joined Hunter as an AllSun Belt Preseason firstteam member. Following a junior season in which he scored 604 points, fourth most in program history, he could become just the fifth Panther to reach the 1,000point career plateau in two seasons. The Panthers were unanimously selected by the Sun Belt Conference head coaches to win the league once again this year. Junior R.J. Hunter was named the Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year and earned preseason allconference firstteam honors along with Ryan Harrow, while senior Curtis Washington was named to the third team. Georgia State enters the season with a 13game homecourt winning streak which ranks tied for 14th in the country with Louisiana Tech. The Panthers went 130 at home during the season. Stephen F. Austin and Duke have won 33 straight home games for the longest streaks in the country. Junior R.J. Hunter is quickly moving up the ranks of several alltime records. Here is a look at some of the numbers: Points: currently 13th with 1,131; 384 shy of Rodney Hamilton s 1,515 3point Field Goals: currently 4th with 173; 67 shy of Shellord Pinkett s 240 3point Field Goal attempts: currently 4th with 453; 184 shy of Shellord Pinkett s 637 Free throws made: currently 11th with 246; 115 shy of Phillip Luckydo s 361 Free throw percentage: currently 2nd at 83.4 percent;.004 behind Rodney Hamilton s schoolrecord of 83.8 percent. Steals: currently tied for 9th with 116; 96 shy of Rodney Hamilton s 212 Curtis Washington blocked 78 shots during his junior year which already ranks eighth on the alltime list. Head coach Ron Hunter continued a trend of bringing highmajor transfers back to Atlanta. Late last spring, Hunter announced that Kevin Ware would be returning home (Conyers, Ga.) after three seasons at Louisville. Ware is unfortunately most known for a gruesome leg injury that he suffered during the Cardinals run to a national championship in The list of highmajor transfers to the Panthers includes Ryan Harrow (Kentucky), Manny Atkins (Virginia Tech) and Jeremy Hollowell (Indiana), who will be eligible for the Panthers in R.J. Hunter is a member of elite company. He is one of only seven returning players in the country to make 100 or more 3pointers during the season. R.J. Hunter became the 18th Panther to score 1,000points in his career, needing just 55 games, the second fewest in program history (Phillip Luckydo 49 games), accomplishing the feat against Troy (Feb. 15, 2014). Ryan Harrow is on pace to become the 19th Panther to reach the mark for GSU after scoring 604 points last year. Under head coach Ron Hunter, the Panthers are 3510 in the GSU Sports Arena, a winning percentage of Ron Hunter won his 50th game as the head coach of Georgia State against UL Lafayette last season, accomplishing the feat quicker than any previous Panther coach. Head coach Ron Hunter owns the records for the most wins in his first season, first two seasons and first three seasons of any coach in program history. In his first three seasons, he has won 62 games, surpassing the total of Hall of Fame coach Charles Lefty Driesell who won 50 games during his first three seasons. Driesell won 79 games in his first four seasons, including the schoolrecord 29 wins during the season. Of the 17 players on Georgia State s roster, nine are from Georgia. Expectations are high for the Panthers entering the season as ESPN, NBC Sports, USA Today and CBS Sports have all projected the Panthers to win the Sun Belt Conference. ESPN, USA Today, Sports Illustrated, CBS Sports and Bleacher Report all have the Panthers selected to make the NCAA tournament in their annual preseason previews. GSU is ranked anywhere from a No. 9 seed to a No. 12 seed.

3 Georgia State Men s Basketball Notes (page 3) Harrow finished the preseason averaging 24.0 points and shooting 66.7 percent from the floor, dishing out 12 assists. Notes: R.J. Hunter, who was the Sun Belt Player of the Year and earned AP AllAmerica honorable mention recognition enters the season needing 385 points to set the GSU alltime scoring record. He scored 604 points last year, tied for fourth most in a single season in school history. Hunter enters the year as one of just seven returning players in the country to make 100 or more 3pointers in a game last season. Senior Ryan Harrow returns for this second season at Georgia State. Harrow averaged 17.8 points per game last season to earn AllSun Belt FirstTeam honors. He has been listed by several publications as among the top 100 players in college basketball. Junior Markus Crider started the second exhibition game for the Panthers, scoring 16 points on 8of9 shooting while pulling down seven rebounds. Redshirtjunior Kevin Ware adds to the list of highmajor transfers to come to Georgia State since Ron Hunter s arrive. Ware played three seasons for Louisville and helped the Cardinals to a national championship in He joins Harrow (Kentucky), Washington (Southern Cal), Jeremy Hollowell (Indiana) and former Panther Manny Atkins (Virginia Tech) in the last three years. Georgia State was unanimously selected to win the Sun Belt this season by the conference s head coaches after making a Postseason NIT appearance last year. Tennessee Temple, located in Chattanooga, Tenn., enters the contest 21 on the season. Following Friday night s game, Georgia State will return to action on Monday traveling to Ames, Iowa, to face No. 14 Iowa State. The game will air live on ESPNU at 9 p.m. ET. DEFENDING CHAMPS In its first year back in the Sun Belt Conference, Georgia State easily won the regularseason title with an impressive 171 conference mark, winning the league by five games. The title was the Panthers first since the season. The Panthers were selected unanimously by the league s head coaches to repeat as champions this year. Georgia State finished the season 259 and advanced to the Postseason NIT. During the year, Georgia State won a schoolrecord 14straight games and had a stretch of 22 wins in 23 games. SCORING RECORD IN JEOPARDY In just his first two seasons, junior R.J. Hunter put together two of the most impressive scoring output seasons in program history. During his sophomore season he reached the 1,000point plateau in just 55 games, the second quickest in program history. This season he has his eyes set on Georgia State s alltime scoring record of 1,515 points held by Rodney Hamilton. Hunter is currently 13th on the alltime scoring list with 1,131 points, meaning he is just 384 points shy of tying the mark. Last season he scored 604 points, tied for the fourth most in a singleseason in program history. The junior was a part of a squad last year with four 1,000point scorers, one of just three programs in the nation to state that fact in THE SERIES WITH TENNESSEE TEMPLE This will mark the first time that Georgia State and Tennessee Temple have met. The Crusaders come to Atlanta from just up I75 in Chattanooga, Tenn. HOME SWEET HOME When coach Ron Hunter took over the Panthers, one of the first things he proclaimed was that the GSU Sports Arena would become one of the toughest places in the country. So far, he has been correct. The Panthers are 3510 in the comfy confines of the Sports Arena. Georgia State went 130 at home last season and the 13straight home wins are tied for 14th longest home court winning streak in the country with Louisiana Tech. Stephen F. Austin and Duke have won 33 straight home games for the longest streaks in the country. In his first season, Hunter s Panthers won 10straight home games and finished the season 133 in the GSU Sports Arena. The Panthers followed with a 97 mark in Here are the longest home court winning streaks in school history: to *3rdlongest streak in nation at time to present (130 during season) to (first 10 games of the regular season) to (last eight games of regular season) TOP 25? Although not an official poll, CBSSports.com s Matt Norlander ranked the Panthers No. 25 in his top 25 (plus one) poll to start the season. No. 26 on the list was Green Bay which the Panthers will play twice this season, while No. 22 was Iowa State, which Georgia State will face on Nov. 17. AMONG THE BEST As the season gets underway, R.J. Hunter and Ryan Harrow have been listed among the top 100 players in college basketball by several publications. It should be no surprise as both were named to the AllSun Belt Preseason FirstTeam and Hunter was name the preseason player of the year. Here is a list and there ranking: Hunter Harrow ESPN CBS 28 NR SB Nation NBC Sports TBA 81 FREE THROW KINGS When it comes to making free throws, Ryan Harrow and R.J. Hunter are two of the three best in school history. Harrow made 130 of 155 free throws in and with an 83.9 free throw percentage, ranks first alltime in Georgia State history. That mark ranked 81st in the NCAA last season. In his first two seasons, Hunter has made 246 of 295 from the line, an 83.4 free throw percentage which ranks third in school history. Hunter shot a schoolrecord 88.2 percent from the line last year which ranked No. 17 in the NCAA. These numbers are of no surprise as head coach Ron Hunter has preached free throw shooting since his arrival. Recent grads Manny Atkins (6th) and Devonta White (10th) are also among the top 10 in school history and played under Hunter. Last season, Akins made 82.4 percent from the line which ranked No. 119 in the nation while White made 80.6 percent which ranked No GOOD WORKS FOR HUNTER Georgia State junior R.J. Hunter was among the list of nominees for the 2015 Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams as announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches

4 Georgia State Men s Basketball Notes (page 4) (NABC), the Women s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Allstate Insurance Company. Hunter has been a part of two international trips in the last three years with Samaritan s Feet and also spent time doing community service in the Atlanta community. QUICKEST TO 1,000 R.J. Hunter reached the 1,000point plateau in just 55 games, the 2ndquickest player to reach the accomplishment in Georgia State history. Here is a list of the quickest to get to 1,000career points: 1. Phillip Luckydo games 2. R.J. Hunter...55 games 3. Chris Collier games 4. Thomas Terrell games Ryan Harrow averaged 17.8 points in 34 games last season. At that pace, he would reach 1,000 points in a Georgia State uniform in his 57th game with the Panthers. LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON...NOT SO FAST Coach Ron Hunter had a very good collegiate career, teaming up with fivetime NBA champion and close friend Ron Harper to lead Miami (Ohio) to three NCAA tournament appearances. In his career, Hunter scored 600 points, a mark that son R.J. surpassed in just his sophomore season alone (604 points). With 1,131 career points, R.J. has trumped his dad, but Ron still owns the title of three NCAA tournament appearances in the mid1980 s. SAY WHAT! Many members of the media have been gushing over the Panthers Big 3 Backcourt of R.J. Hunter, Ryan Harrow and Kevin Ware. Here is what some of them said this offseason: Scott Gleason (USA Today): Georgia State can be one of, if not the best, midmajors in the country, largely thanks to the return of Harrow and the addition of Ware. Interestingly, neither is the best player on the team. That would be R.J. Hunter, a 66 junior, the coach s son and an AllSun Belt performer with NBA potential who averaged 18.3 points and 4.6 rebounds a game. Rob Dauster (NBC Sports): The Panthers back court is absolutely loaded. Ryan Harrow, R.J. Hunter and Kevin Ware are as talented as any group of guards that you ll find at the Division I level. There should be no dropoff from last season s team, the one that went 171 in Sun Belt play, particularly if Ron Hunter can find someone to help Curtis Washington on the interior. Reid Forgrave (Fox Sports 1): Ron Hunter s team might boast a topfive backcourt: his son, sharpshooting NBA prospect R.J. Hunter, is joined by Ryan Harrow the Kentucky transfer who scored 17.8 points per game last season as well as former Louisville guard Kevin Ware, whose famous leg is now healthy. The Panthers ought to win the Sun Belt and could make a run in March, when good guard play dominates. PRESEASON NCAA PREDICTIONS Georgia State has been a popular predicition to make the NCAA tournament this season. Here are where some major publications have the Panthers entering the season. Publication Seed Opponent USA Today 12 Iowa State Sports Illustrated 12 VCU CBS Sports 12 Nebraska ESPN 12 Texas Bleacher Report 9 UCLA GOING BAREFOOT Coach Ron Hunter will once again coach a game barefoot in support of Samaritan s Feet during the upcoming season. He currently plans to go barefoot on Jan. 15 against UT Arlington. Hunter always tries to schedule the game as close to the Martin Luther King Jr. observance day. The Panthers are 30 when Hunter has gone without socks and shoes to raise awareness for the 300 million children around the world without shoes. This year will mark the eighth straight year Hunter has gone barefoot for a game. As part of his work with Samaritan s Feet, Georgia State travelled to Costa Rica in August, doing a pair of shoe distributions during its eightday road trip. SUMMER BASKETBALL IN COSTA RICA Georgia State traveled to Costa Rica in August to deliver shoes and hope to children in need, while also getting in some basketball practice and game action. The Panthers traveled to the Central American country for eight days this past August and played four games against club teams in the country of 4.7 million people. While there, the group also participated in several shoe distributions through Samaritan s Feet. It marked the second trip as a team under head coach Ron Hunter to work with the organization. Two years ago the Panthers went to South Africa. For the last seven years, Hunter has coached one game a year in barefeet to raise awareness for Samaritan s Feet. The game is generally played around the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday as a part of the national day of service. Samaritan s Feet is an organization that provides shoes for underpriviledged children around the world. Their goal is to provide 10 million children with 10 million pairs of shoes in 10 years. 580 AND COUNTING Georgia State has made at least one 3point field goal in 580 straight games, dating back to the season. The last team to hold the Panthers without a trey was Stetson on Feb. 18, NEXT UP Georgia State will start a stretch of six road games in less than two weeks Monday night at No. 14 Iowa State. The game is set for 9 p.m. ET and will air live on ESPNU. After returning from Iowa, the Panthers will depart for Denver on Thursday for a game with Colorado State on Friday, the start of a fivegame, 10day road trip over Thanksgiving.

6 Georgia State Men s Basketball Notes (page 6) HEAD COACH RON HUNTER In just his first three seasons at the helm of the Georgia State program, Ron Hunter has restored it to national prominence, averaging more than 20 wins per year and making a pair of postseason appearances. In three years, Hunter has led the program to 62 wins, including two of the three best seasons in program history. While leading IUPUI to 25 or more wins in two of his final four seasons, Hunter began to partner with Samaritan s Feet, an organization that collects shoes for underprivileged children around the world. On Jan. 24, 2008, he coached IUPUI against Oakland in his bare feet to help raise awareness for the cause.
