The matchup with FIU (63) will renew a former conference rivalry when the two schools played in the Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC), which has since become the Atlantic Sun Conference. This will mark the 17th matchup with each program earning eight wins. Despite a careerhigh 34 points from redshirtjunior Ryan Harrow on Tuesday against Elon, Georgia State (24) dropped its third straight game, all of which have come on the road. In his first season since transferring from Kentucky, Harrow is averaging 20.0 points per game, fifth in the Sun Belt. He is also fourth in the conference averaging 4.3 assists per game. His 34point performance was the most in the country on Tuesday and is the secondhighest total in the Sun Belt this year. Ryan is having a really nice start to the season for us, head coach Ron Hunter said. He is a special player and I am looking forward to him continuing to develop in our program. Despite our record not being where we would like it, we are continuing to get better every day. Our practices are getting better, I am seeing more out of our bench and if we can correct some things on defense, we will be right where we need to be. The Panthers are averaging 81.2 points per game, second in the Sun Belt, but are giving up 79.7 points in the league, ninth of the 10 teams. Offensively, GSU is shooting 47.0 percent from the floor and 35.2 percent from 3point range, making 76.2 percent from the free throw line, tops in the league. The Panthers are also tops in the conference in blocked shots (5.0), turnover margin (+2.5) and assist/turnover ratio (1.4) R.J. Hunter is second on the team in scoring averaging 15.3 points per game, 13th in the Sun Belt. The sophomore is fourth in the conference averaging 2.7 3pointers per game Pos # Name...Ht Wt Cl. The two schools are meeting for the 17th time and were nearly conference foes again. As GSU entered the Sun Belt, FIU departed the Sun Belt for Conference USA. The 34 points scored by Ryan Harrow against Elon were the most since R.J. Hunter scored 38 points against Old Dominion on Feb. 2, Hunter s 38point out bursted netted him Lou Henson National Player of the Week honors. Harrow scored the most points in the country that day, Nov. 26. Following a 27point effort against Vanderbilt, Ryan Harrow earned Sun Belt Conference PlayeroftheWeek honors, becoming the first Panther to be recognized by the league. Thru six games, the Panthers have had a player score 20 or more points six times. Redshirtjunior Ryan Harrow has accomplished the feat four times, while sopho more R.J. Hunter has accomplished the feat twice. Coach Hunter has made it a habit of playing in nonconference tournaments and this year was no different. In his first year, the Panthers travelled to Seattle, Wash. to play in the World Vision Classic. Last year, the Panthers hosted Coaches vs. Cancer following an opening game at BYU. This year, Georgia State participated in the NIT Season Tipoff. It was announced earlier in November that the Panthers will play in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic next year. Georgia State won 15 games last year, giving head coach Ron Hunter s 37 victories in his first two seasons,,the most by a Panther coach in two years in program history. He surpassed the total of Hall of Fame coach Charles Lefty Driesell who won 33 games in his first two seasons. Driesell won 50 games in his first three seasons and with two wins so far this season, Hunter is at 39 in his twoplus years. The Panthers are in the middle of a sixgame road trip that opened on Nov. 12 at Vanderbilt and will come to an end at FIU on Nov. 30. GSU only played one home game in the entire month of November. This will mark the Panthers first season in its return to the Sun Belt Conference. GSU was a founding member of the league in 1976 before leaving in Expectations are high entering the season as ESPN, NBC Sports, USA Today and CBS Sports have all projected the Panthers to win the Sun Belt Conference this year. The Sun Belt coaches have the Panthers finishing tied for fourth. Georgia State returns four starters from last year, including seniors Manny Atkins, Rashaad Richardson and Devonta White, along with sophomore R.J. Hunter. R.J. Hunter, a Kyle Macy Freshman AllAmerica honoree last season, opened the year with 27 points against Southern Poly. In 34 career games, Hunter has scored 20 points or more 14 times, including the first two games this year. Senior Devonta White scored his 1,000th career point in his last game last season and with 55 points scored this year, has 1,055 for his career. He needs 461 points during his senior season to establish a new career school record. More remarkable is the fact he missed 10 games as a freshman with an ankle injury. White will finish his career at Georgia State has one of the most accomplished Panthers in program history. He is currently listed or just outside the top10 in 11 career statistically categories. For more information on the records White is chasing can be found on page six of this notes packet. Freshman Isaiah Dennis has already made noise this fall earning the No. 5 play on ESPN Sportscenter s Top 10 List on Oct. 19. The 511 guard dunked over 69 forward Curtis Washington during the inaugural Hoop Day Fanfest. Georgia State will have one of the most balanced rosters in the country this year. The squad features four seniors, four juniors, four sophomores and three freshman.

3 Georgia State Men s Basketball Notes (page 3) and fifth in free throw percentage, knocking down 83.3 percent from the line. Senior Devonta White is adding 9.2 points and 3.8 assists per game, shooting 80.0 percent from the free throw line. He has moved up to 14th on GSU s alltime scoring list this season with 1,055 career points, just four behind Jim Jacobs for 13th. Coming off his first career doubledouble on Monday night, redshirtjunior Curtis Washington scored a careerhigh 17 points against Elon on Tuesday. Washington is averaging 10.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, seventh in the Sun Belt. He is second in the league in field goal percentage, making 64.3 percent from the floor and tops in the conference blocking 3.5 shots per game. Redshirtsenior Manny Atkins rounds out the starting five, averaging 10.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. One of the top 3point shooters in the Sun Belt, Atkins is making 45.8 percent from 3point range and knocking down 1.8 3s per game, both among the top15. FIU is led by the tandem of Tymell Murphy and Rakeem Buckles. Murphy is averaging 15.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, while Buckles adds 15.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest. FIU had won sixstraight before a 12point loss to South Carolina last Sunday. Following Saturday s game, Georgia State will return home for three of its next four games, beginning with Young Harris on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. ON THE MOVE This will mark Georgia State s first season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. The Panthers became official members on July 1, joining the highlycompetitive league, led by Commissioner Karl Benson. The Sun Belt was formed in 1976 with six members, including Georgia State, competing in four men s sports, and today comprised of 10 institutions of higher learning sponsoring 19 championship sports for men and women. Georgia State was a founding member of the Sun Belt Conference in 1976 but left the conference in In 1984, the school joined the Trans America Athletic Conference, which was renamed the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2001, and then moved to the Colonial Athletic Association in THE SENSATIONAL SOPHOMORE Following a season in which R.J. Hunter won nearly every award possible, he is back for his sophomore campaign. He opened the season with a 27point performance against Southern Poly, going 7of13 from the floor, 5of11 from 3point range and a perfect 8of8 from the free throw line. He followed with a 21 point, sevenrebound performance against Vanderbilt on Nov. 12 and added a teamhigh 18 against McNeese State to open the NIT Season Tipoff. In his first year, Hunter earned Kyle Macy Freshman All America honors, along with AllCAA First Team, CAA AllRookie and CAA RookieoftheYear recoginition. He was named CAA RookieoftheWeek six times and scored his firstt CAA Player of the Week honor on Feb. 2, while also being named the Lou Henson National Player of the Week. He earned national player of the week honros after pouring in a careerhigh 38points on a schoolrecord 10 3pointers. He finished the game 12of18 from the floor and 10of15 from 3point range. He was one of just three freshman in the country to average at least 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. The other two (UNLV s Anthony Bennett and UCLA s Shabazz Muhammad) were both selected in the NBA Draft with Bennett going No. 1 overall. PERFECT...KIND OF In Georgia State s regular season opening win against Southern Poly, the Panthers made 28of32 free throws, an 87.5 percent clip. However, the starting five went a perfect 22of22, with sophomore R.J. Hunter going a perfect 8of8. The 87.5 team mark was the 21stbest mark in school history. Panther starters made their first two free throws against Vanderbilt, extending the streak to 24straight before a miss with 45 seconds remaining in the first half. Thru six games, redshirtsenior Manny is shooting a teambest 88.2 percent (15of17) with seven Panthers shooting at least 75percent from the charity stripe. As a team, the Panthers are shooting 76.2 percent from the line. TOUGHER COMPETITION Building his second schedule for Georgia State, head coach Ron Hunter wanted to test his team early, knowing a difficult Sun Belt Conference schedule awaits. In the Panthers second game of the season, GSU travelled to Vanderbilt of the SEC. The Panthers also faced Alabama in the NIT Season Tipoff in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Georgia State will also face five teams from Conference USA, including rematches with Southern Miss and East Carolina. THE SERIES WITH FIU Georgia State and FIU, a pair of former conference foes in the TAAC (now Atlantic Sun), will square off for the 17th time on Saturday. GSU earned an impressive 7347 win in Atlanta two years ago the last time they met. FIU owns a 52 alltime mark in games in Miami, including the last three. Last time they met (of current Panthers), Rashaad Richardson scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Devonta White added nine points and four steals. Florida International 88 12/20/89... His last two season openers have been no easy task. His first game as GSU s head coach came at Washington, a 9174 loss. Last season, the Panthers opened the season at No. 8 Duke, falling to the Blue Devils 7455 live on ESPNU. This year, the season opener came at home, a 9778 victory over Southern Poly. Before this season in home openers, Hunter led the Panthers to a 6950 win over McNeese State during the season. That will propelled the Panthers to a schoolrecord 11game win streak. Last season, Georgia State earned a 6249 win over Monmouth in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in the Sports Arena. This year, the Panthers opened the season with an impressive 9778 win against Southern Poly.

4 Georgia State Men s Basketball Notes (page 4) AWARD WINNING The season is just underway, but the accolades have already started to come in for some Panthers. Sophomore R.J. Hunter was named to the Preseason AllSun Belt First Team, while juniortransfer Ryan Harrow earned second team honors by the coaches. The duo, along with Manny Atkins and Devonta White were also name to Sun Belt Preseason Teams in numerous publications throughout the fall. HARROW EARNS WEEKLY HONOR Redshirtjunior Ryan Harrow led the Panthers to a near upset of Vanderbilt and a win in the NIT Season Tipoff to earn Sun Belt PlayeroftheWeek honors on November 19. In two games, Harrow averaged 19.5 points per game, shooting 14of33 from the floor (42.4 percent) and making all 10 free throw attempts. He added five rebounds, eight assists and three steals. In the Panthers first road game of the season, Harrow led all scorers with a careerhigh 27 points and four assists at Vanderbilt, going a perfect 6of6 from the free throw line. He finished the game 10of21 from the floor. On November 19 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Harrow helped GSU to a 9670 win over McNeese State in the opening game of the NIT Season Tipoff. Harrow scored 12 points and dished out four assists in just 24 minutes, making all four free throws attempts. HURRAY FOR HARROW The cheers were loud as Ryan Harrow scored a careerhigh 34 points on 13of26 shooting in the final game of the NIT Season Tipoff against Elon. The redshirtjunior made a pair of 3pointers and went 6of9 from the free throw line. It was the most points scored in the country on the day (Nov. 26) and the most points scored by a Panther since R.J. Hunter scored 38 points against Old Dominion on Feb. 2, CLOSE, BUT NO CIGAR Redshirtsenior Manny Atkins put together a very special season last year, but a rebound here or there could had made it even more special. Atkins recorded three doubledoubles during the season, however, he also missed a doubledouble six times by just one rebound and another four by two rebounds. IF he had secured all of those doubledoubles, he would have ranked in the top25 in the final NCAA rankings. He opened the season with 13 points and nine rebounds against Southern Poly, once again, falling just short of that elusive doubledouble. #BLOCKCITY Curtis Washington impressed the crowd in his Georgia State debut, tying a schoolrecord with nine blocked shots against Southern Poly. The 69 bigman who transfered to GSU from Southern Cal, added six points and seven rounds in the win. He tied the record set by Sylvestor Morgan in 2005 and tied by James Vincent against Monmouth last year. LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON...NOT SO FAST Coach Ron Hunter had a very good collegiate career, teaming up with fivetime NBA champion and close friend Ron Harper to lead Miami (Ohio) to three NCAA tournament appearances. In his career, Hunter scored 600 points, a mark that son R.J. surpassed during his sophomore season. The younger Hunter scored a GSU freshman record 527 points last year and thru six games this season, has scored 92, averaging 15.3 points per game. With 619 career points, R.J. has trumped his dad, but Ron still owns the title of three NCAA tournament appearances in the mid80 s. GOING BAREFOOT Coach Ron Hunter will once again go barefoot for one game this season in support of Samaritan s Feet. It is expected that game will be Jan. 18 against UALR. Hunter always tries to schedule the game as close to the Martin Luther King Jr. observance day. In his first two seasons at GSU, the Panthers are 20 when Hunter has gone without socks and shoes to raise awareness for the 300 million children around the world without shoes. FATHER & SON Ron and R.J. Hunter are actually the second fatherson combo to grace the GSU Sports Arena. Bob Reinhart coached his son Bobby Reinhart from Bobby led the team in assists during his senior season. Ron and R.J. are just one of five pairs of father and son pairs in the NCAA this year. The group includes: Jim & Billy Baron Canisius Ron & R.J. Hunter Georgia State Greg & Doug McDermott Creighton Dale & Ethan Layer Liberty Todd & Blake Bozeman Morgan State HOME SWEET HOME When coach Ron Hunter took over the Panthers, one of the first things he proclaimed was that the GSU Sports Arena would become one of the toughest places in the country. So far, he has been correct. The Panthers are 2310 in the comfy confines in his twoplus seasons. In his first season, Hunter s Panthers won 10straight home games and finished the season 133 in the GSU Sports Arena. After a 97 mark last year, Georgia State is 10 at home this year. 552 AND COUNTING Georgia State has made at least one threepoint field goal in 552 straight games, dating back to the season. The last team to hold the Panthers without a trey was Stetson on Feb. 18, NEXT UP Following sixstraight games on the road, the Panthers will return home Dec. 4 against Young Harris. It will begin a stretch of threeoffour at home.

6 Georgia State Men s Basketball Notes (page 6) HEAD COACH RON HUNTER Ron Hunter restored the Georgia State program to national prominence in his first year and has won 37 games in two seasons after taking over as head coach of the Panthers before the season. In that first campaign, Georgia State won 22 games, the second most in school history, advancing to the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, the Panthers fourth postseason appearance. Hunter has won 311 games in 19 seasons, but the accomplishments made by the team might be the most special. After being named head coach on March 21, 2011, he built a squad that finished in the top 20 in the nation in scoring defense, defensive shooting percentage, steals and blocked shots, as six seniors finished their careers triumpently. Following the recordsetting season, Hunter was named Atlanta Tipoff Club Georgia Coach of the Year, while his players earned a recordnumber of conference and national awards. National notoriety is nothing new for Hunter. While at IUPUI, he was lauded for his humanitarian efforts, partnering with Samaritan s Feet, an organization that collects shoes for underprivileged children around the world. He continued that work in Atlanta, coaching the Panthers while barefoot to victory over UNCW in front of the largest crowd in the Sports Arena since While leading IUPUI to 25 or more wins in two of his final four seasons, Hunter began to partner with Samaritan s Feet, an organization that collects shoes for underprivileged children around the world. On Jan. 24, 2008, he coached IUPUI against Oakland in his bare feet to help raise awareness for the cause. By tipoff, Hunter s efforts had raised more than 100,000 pairs of shoes, and to date, that number has climbed well above 250,000. During his first season at Georgia State, Hunter led the Panthers to the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, just the fourth time GSU earned a postseason bid. The Panthers opened the tournament at home, another first, hosting a postseason contest and earning an impressive 7443 victory against Tennessee Tech. Earlier in the year, Hunter s squad won 11 straight games, a schoolrecord, earning impressive victories over CAA preseason favorite Drexel and at VCU. The streak included wins of 32, 32 and 31 points. The Panthers winning ways continued in the CAA Tournament with a recordsetting 35point victory against Hofstra in the first round, the largest margin of victory in CAA Championship history. Hunter s resume includes numerous national honors including an NABC Guardians of the Game Pillar Award for Service, the 2009 Giant Steps Award from the National Consortium for Academics and Sport (NCAS), and a Minority Achievement Award from the Center for Leadership Development (CLD). He was one of seven head coaches who served on the Division I Basketball Academic Enhancement Group, as appointed by late NCAA President Myles Brand, and he is a member of the National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) Board of Directors. Hunter, 48, earned his bachelor s degree in education at Miami in 1986 and added a master s in He was a standout player on strong Miami teams of the mid1980s, along with high school and college teammate Ron Harper, who went on to a long NBA career. The Redhawks were 8130 during Hunter s fouryear career and earned three consecutive NCAA Tournament berths while winning two MAC championships.
