Against the Trojans, D Marcus Simonds scored 27 points to move into second-place on the single season scoring list with 647 points. He trails R.J. Hunter s school record of 688 by 41 entering Saturday. Against the UT Arlington, Simonds became the 20th Panther in program history to score 1,000 career points. He accomplished the feat in just 58 games, tied for the fifth-quickest in program history. He is currently ranked No. 18 on the all-time list just six points shy of Trae Goldston for No. 17. Simonds recorded his 223rd field goal of the year on Feb. 22, to break the record held by Ryan Harrow. Simonds has scored in double figures in 47-straight games dating back to last season and has four 30-plus performances this year. Malik Benlevi and D Marcus Simonds are tied for the team lead with five double-doubles each this year. Simonds is averaging 21.6 points per game which is currently the best single-season scoring average in school history. He is currently ranked among the top 25 in the NCAA in scoring. Georgia State s start is tied for the fourth-best 30-game start in program history. Georgia State s 20 wins are tied for the fifth-most in school history. It marks the fourth time in the last five seasons reaching the mark. The Panthers have won 64 Sun Belt games since returning to the league in No other program in the league has more than 62 wins (Louisiana) during that time. Georgia State enters play ranked No. 10 in field goal defense (40.0) in the NCAA, No. 38 in blocked shots per game (4.6), No. 53 in scoring defense (67.8) and No. 16 with a turnover margin of 3.5. Ron Hunter, GSU s all-time leader in wins, won his 400th career game on 11/22 against EWU. With GSU s 20 wins, Ron Hunter has led the Panthers to 5-of-the-8 most successful seasons in program history, including a pair of 25-win seasons. He has won 20 or more games five times in seven seasons at GSU. Jordan Session has now played in 123 games, fourth-most in school history. He has also been a part of 81 wins, tied for the fourth-most for any player in program history. Devin Mitchell has made 83 3-pointers this season, tied for the fifth-most in school history. He has three games this year with seven or more 3-pointers. Jeff Thomas has made pointers in his career, ranked No. 8 on GSU s all-time list for treys. Georgia State s 3-point field goal percentage (38.2) is currently the best mark in school history, while the pointers made broke the school record of 276 set during the season. Over the four-year stretch, the Panthers are in Sun Belt Conference regular season games. The 64 wins are the most in the league during that time. The second closest is Louisiana s 62 wins. STREAK SNAPPED From Jan. 4 to Feb. 8, Georgia State won 10-straight games, the third-longest streak in program history (see page 7 for all streaks). When the run came to an end, it was the ninth-longest in the nation. A LOT OF WINS There is still one regular season game to play, but Georgia State s 20 wins are already tied for the fifth-most in program history. In his seven years as head coach, Ron Hunter is responsible for five of the eight most successful seasons in program history. See page six for the most wins in a season. UNDEFEATED! Georgia State completed an undefeated month of January going 7-0. Only eight times in program history has the team gone undefeated in a month and only three times did the month include five or more games. The team has accomplished the feat three times under Ron Hunter (Jan. 2014: 7-0 & Dec. 2012: 5-0). Since the start of 2016, GSU is 19-5 in January games. All of the undefeated months are listed on page 7. SCORING RECORD IN JEOPARDY Sophomore D Marcus Simonds is on pace to shatter the single-season record for most points scored by Panther. Entering play on Saturday, Simonds has scored 647 points, second-most in school history, which has included four 30-plus point performances. He is one of just seven Panthers to score 600 or more points in a season. The school record is 688 points held by R.J. Hunter ( ). See page 6 for a complete list. 3 Georgia State Men s Basketball Notes (page 3) THE SERIES WITH SOUTH ALABAMA Georgia State and South Alabama will meet for the 28th time on Saturday with the Jaguars holding a lead in the series. However, the Panthers have won eight of the last 10 matches dating back to In the first match-up, Georgia State could not overcome a frigid shooting performance and fell to South Alabama in the Sun Belt opener for both schools. Sophomore D Marcus Simonds led the Panthers with 27 points, but Georgia State shot just 39.7 percent from the floor and just 30.4 percent from 3-point range while being outrebounded RECORD-SETTING WIN OVER LOUISIANA The Panthers knocked previously Sun Belt unbeaten Louisiana off with a win on Feb. 8. The Ragin Cajuns were receiving votes in the ESPN/Coaches Poll and saw a 10-game winning streak snapped. The 106 points scored are the most-ever for GSU in a Sun Belt game and marked the first time going over the century mark since putting up 101 on the Ragin Cajuns in Louisiana last January. It marked the first time since 2004 in which Georgia State saw six players finish in double figures and just the fifth time that three players have scored 20 points in the same game for the Panthers. THE 20-POINT CLUB Sophomore D Marcus Simonds is currently averaging 21.6 points per game. Only six times in program history has a Panther averaged 20 or more points a game for the season. The last time it happened was when Thomas Terrell averaged 20.5 point per game during the season. The record is held by Ron Ricketts who averaged 21.1 points per game during the season. FROM WAY DOWNTOWN In Georgia State s road win at UMass, the Panthers knocked down 16 3-pointers, including an impressive 11-of-15 in the second half. The 16 3-pointers are tied for the third-most in school history. Georgia State finished the game 16-of-25, a 64.0 percentage, which is the sixth-best mark in school history. Williams went on an 8-0 run with a pair of 3-pointers followed by two free throws. The first of the two free throws gave him the milestone. Simonds knocked down a 3-pointer against the Mavericks to reach the milestone in just 58 games, tied for the fifth-fewest in program history. A NEAR RECORD-SETTING PERFORMANCE Devin Mitchell put on a show at Little Rock, one that set career-highs for the junior and nearly established some new GSU records. Mitchell s 38 points were the eighth-most in school history, while his 10 3-pointers are tied for the second-most in school history. The 38 points are the most since R.J. Hunter scored 38 against Ole Dominion on Feb. 2, In that same game, Hunter knocked down 10 3-pointers, second-most to the school-record 12 he made at UTSA. Mitchell set a Jack Stephens Center scoring record and his 10 3-pointers are the second-most of any player in the NCAA this year. A GEORGIA STATE FIRST D Marcus Simonds recorded the first triple-double in program history on opening night at Carver Bible College. Simonds went for 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the win. The 10 rebounds and 10 assists were both career highs. SUN BELT REGULAR SEASON HONORS D Marcus Simonds and Devin Mitchell have both earned Sun Belt Player-of-the-Week honors this year. Simonds earned it twice (Jan. 8 and Jan. 29) while Mitchell took the award on Feb. 5. Simonds earned GSU s first honor of the year and with wins over Little Rock and Arkansas State last week while averaging 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. He earned his second award of the year and the third of his career with wins over UT Arlington and Texas State while averaging 24.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals in two games while shooting 21-of-40 from the floor. Mitchell earned the award after scoring 38 points, including 10 3-pointers at Little Rock on Feb. 3. The 38 points are the eighth-most in school history, while the 10 treys are tied for the second-most. DOUBLE THE GOODNESS In Georgia State s win over Tulane, both senior Jordan Session and junior Malik Benlevi recorded double-doubles. Session finished with a career-high 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Benlevi scored 17 points and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds. The last time that two Panthers recorded double-doubles in the same game was during the season as Rashad Chase (23 pts., 12 rebs.) and Lance Perique (26 pts., 14 rebs.) accomplished the feat at home against Towson. Only one time on record have three Panthers recorded doubledoubles in the same game and that came during the season (Hamilton, Gause and Robertson). Double-Doubles This Year Malik Benlevi - 5 D Marcus Simonds - 5 Jordan Session - 3

4 Georgia State Men s Basketball Notes (page 4) RECORD-TYING NON-CONFERENCE SLATE Georgia State tied the school-record for non-conference wins in a season this year. The previous nine-win non-conference totals each ended with postseason play. Here are the top seasons: Year Record End of Season NCAA Final 32 (Second Round) CIT Sweet TBD None CIT NCAA Final 32 (Third Round) PRE-MARCH MADNESS Sophomore D Marcus Simonds has been named the College Sports Madness Sun Belt Player of the Week four times this year. Devin Mitchell added to Georgia State s list on Feb. 5. The first honor came on Dec. 11 following a week in which he led the Panthers to a split of two games averaging 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per game. Highlighting the week was a career-high 35 points against Liberty. He also earned the honor on Dec. 25 after an impressive sweep of road games at UMass and Chattanooga. In those two games Simonds averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and shot 19-of-32 from the floor. The third honor came on Jan. 8, after finishing just shy of a careerhigh with 33 points and nine rebounds against Arkansas State. The most recent recognition came on Jan. 29, after leading the Panthers to wins over UT Arlington and Texas State. In two games, he averaged 24.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals while shooting 21-of-40 from the floor. Mitchell earned the award after scoring 38 points, including 10 3-pointers at Little Rock. The 38 points are the eighth-most in school history, while the 10 treys are tied for the second-most. BIG-TIME WIN FOR #HURRICANE RELIEF Georgia State earned an impressive win over crosstown foe Georgia Tech during the exhibition season, but more important than the win was the cause. The A-Town Showdown for Hurricane Relief came together in late-october and brought the teams to McCamish Pavilion to raise money for the hurricane relief cause. More than 2,100 fans cheered the two teams on as the game raised money for those effected by three hurricanes in the fall. EXPERIENCE IS KING Two Georgia State players reached the 100 career games played mark during non-conference play. Last year Georgia State had three players with at least 100 career games played. See page 5 for Session s standing on the all-time list of GSU greats. Here is a list of players who have reached the mark this season: Career Games Games at GSU Jordan Session Isaiah Williams SIGN ON THE DOTTED LINE Georgia State head coach Ron Hunter announced the signing of two highly-touted high school stars on Nov. 8 as as Nelson Phillips of Warner Robins, Ga., and Kavonte Ivery of Stockbridge, Ga., were signed to National Letters of Intent. Phillips is a 4-star prospect from Warner Robins High School is currently ranked as the No. 5 prospect in Georgia, while Ivery is a star forward out of Stockbridge High School has been ranked as high as the No. 26 prospect in the state of Georgia. Phillips recently earned Region 1-AAAAA Player of the Year honors. HOME SWEET HOME When coach Ron Hunter took over the Panthers, one of the first things he proclaimed was that the GSU Sports Arena would become one of the toughest places in the country. So far, he has been correct. The Panthers are in the comfy confines of the Sports Arena since his arrival. The Panthers have gone at home the last five seasons. During that span, Georgia State put together an 18-game winning streak which ranks second-longest in school history. Here are the longest home court winning streaks in school history: to *3rd-longest streak in nation at time to (13-0 during season) to (last 7 of season, first 8 of 15-16) HEAD OF THE CLASS Ron Hunter became the all-time winningest coach at Georgia State last season and entered the year with 123 victories in six seasons. He has shattered every wins mark in school history with the exception of the single-season record of 29 wins held by Charles Lefty Driesell. Hunter surpassed Bob Reinhart for the record on Dec. 10, Ironically, Reinhart, now a scout for the Miami Heat, was in the building when Hunter tied the record. ELITE GROUP When head coach Ron Hunter won his 108th game at GSU last year, he joined an elite group of coaches who are considered the all-time wins leader at multiple schools. Hunter coached IUPUI for 17 years and is still the all-time wins leader for the Jaguars. The list of coaches who lead at multiple schools includes: Ronnie Arrow - Texas A&M-CC and South Alabama Jim Calhoun - Northeastern and Connecticut Leonard Hamilton - Miami (Fla.) and Florida State Lou Henson - New Mexico State and Illinois Ron Hunter - IUPUI and Georgia State Gregg Marshall - Winthrop and Wichita State Johnny Orr - Michigan and Iowa State ON TO THE PROS Under head coach Ron Hunter, the number of former Georgia State players to go on to play professionally has greatly increased. Two years ago, R.J. Hunter was selected with the 28th pick in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics. He was signed by the Chicago Bulls in late October 2016 before spending the spring with the Brooklyn Nets G-League team. He was signed to the Houston Rockets on Jan. 13 after a stint with the Rockets G-League affiliate Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Hunter was named NBA G-League Player of the Week on Dec. 4. Also from two years ago, Ryan Harrow went to play overseas in Greece and is now in Italy. Curtis Washington has already played professionally in Hong Kong before going to Argentina and seeing action in the NBDL. Kevin Ware has gone on to play in Finland. From last year s squad, Jeremy Hollowell was selected by the Erie BayHawks (Atlanta Hawks G-League franchise) in the first round of the draft, while Willie Clayton is playing in Cyprus.

5 Georgia State Men s Basketball Notes (page 5) SEEN WORLDWIDE For the third-straight year, all Georgia State home games will air live on WatchESPN/ESPN3 this season. With the program s rise, nearly every game will be seen worldwide this year. Of the Panthers 31 games, 25 are currently scheduled to air live. Sam Crenshaw returns for the third year of calling play-byplay for home games. He will once again be joined by former Panther Rodney Truck Turner who will handle color duties. Among the highlights will be the game at Ole Miss (SEC Network+) and at Georgia Southern (ESPN2). Also, for the first time in program history, both games of the MGM Grand Main Event aired on FloHoops.TV. GOING BAREFOOT Coach Ron Hunter once again coached a game barefoot in support of Samaritan s Feet. This year it came on Jan. 20 against Georgia Southern which resulted in an win. The Panthers are 7-0 when Hunter has gone without socks and shoes to raise awareness for the 300 million children around the world without shoes. This marked the 11th straight year Hunter has gone barefoot for a game. As part of his work with Samaritan s Feet, Georgia State has traveled to South Africa (2012), Costa Rica (2014) and the Dominican Republic (2016) to take part in shoe distributions with the organization. 10 Georgia State Men s Basketball Notes (page 10) HEAD COACH RON HUNTER In six seasons, Ron Hunter has changed the national perception of Georgia State; winning 123 games and advancing to the postseason four times. He is now responsible for four of the seven most successful seasons in program history. His stint at GSU was highlighted in by winning 25 games for a second year in a row and advancing to the third round of the NCAA tournament following the shocking upset of No. 3-seed Baylor. The 123 wins are the most in any six-year stretch in program history. He became one of just seven coaches to be the all-time wins leader at multiple NCAA Division I schools last year. With the team s success in and , Georgia State entered elite status by winning 25 or more games in each of those two years, an accomplishment only reached by 20 programs in the entire country. Hunter is also responsible for more than half of the school s postseason appearances. Last season, Georgia State had its fourth-straight winning season that included an eight-game winning streak and a third top-two finish in the Sun Belt in four years. After winning the Sun Belt regular season title for the second straight season in , the Panthers claimed the tournament title, just the third for the program to advance to the NCAA tournament. In the postgame celebration, Hunter tore his Achilles, a clip that went viral across the nation. Coaching in the NCAA tournament from a stool, the Panthers trailed by 12 with 2:53 to play, before mounting a furious 13-0 run, capped by a 30-foot 3-pointer from son R.J. that sent Hunter off his stool and became one of the most watched clips of the tournament and a part of One Shining Moment. Although successful in his first two seasons at the helm, the Panthers started to pile up the wins during the season. Winning 25 games, second most in school history, Georgia State earned a Sun Belt regular season championship and an appearance in the Postseason NIT. During the season, the Panthers won a school-record 14-straight games, including a stretch of 22 of 23, as Hunter was named Sun Belt Coach of the Year and NABC Region 24 Coach of the Year. During his first season ( ), Georgia State won 22 games, the fourth most in school history, advancing to the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. Hunter has won 377 games in 22 seasons, but the accomplishments made by the team will always be special for him. After being named head coach on March 21, 2011, he built a squad that finished in the top 20 in the nation in scoring defense, defensive shooting percentage, steals and blocked shots, as six seniors finished their careers triumphantly. Following the record-setting season, Hunter was named Atlanta Tip-off Club Georgia Coach of the Year, while his players earned a record number of conference and national awards. National notoriety is nothing new for Hunter. While at IUPUI, he was lauded for his humanitarian efforts, partnering with Samaritan s Feet, an organization that collects shoes for underprivileged children around the world. Named Summit League Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2006, Hunter led IUPUI to the conference championship game five times from , including the 2003 title game victory over top-seeded Valparaiso. Hunter, 52, earned his bachelor s degree in education at Miami (Ohio) in 1986 and added a master s in Hunter and his wife, Amy, have two children, Jasmine (26) and R.J. (24). R.J. was a stand-out for the Panthers and was selected by the Boston Celtics with the 28th pick in the first round of the NBA Draft in Last season he played with the Chicago Bulls and the Long Island Nets of the NBA G-League. He is currently with the Houston Rockets organization playing in both the NBA and G-League.
