1 Ohio (3-6-2, 3-1 MAC) Tied For Third The Bobcats suffered their first MAC loss to Ball State on Friday but rebounded with a 3-1 victory on Sunday against Miami. With a 3-1 conference record, the Bobcats sit in a tie with Kent State for third place in the MAC standings. Ohio holds the tie-breaker with the Golden Flashes from its 2-1 double-overtime victory against Kent State in the Bobcats MAC opener on Sept. 28. MacLean s Magic in Goal With Ohio s 3-1 victory on Sunday against Miami, sophomore goalkeeper Jess MacLean has surrender just one goal in five consecutive games. Through 11 contests this season, the Loveland, Ohio, native has given up only 12 goals. MacLean has recorded two shutouts in 2007 and her goals against average sits at Her GAA in conference play is even lower at.96. MacLean, whose nickname on the team is Bear, has recorded 38 saves this season after tallying 35 stops a year ago and her save percentage of.765 would have ranked her ninth in the MAC last season. Season-High Scores Before Ohio s win against Miami, the Bobcats previous high for goals in a game was two, which they had done three times before. But with Lindsey Price s second-half score against the Redhawks, Ohio totaled three goals in a game for the first time in Erika Schmitt netted her team-best fourth of the season just five minutes and 22 seconds into the first half while sophomore forward Amy Lower, who led the Bobcats with eight goals last season, scored her first goal of the 2007 season later in the first half. The Bobcats 10 total points earned against Buffalo (three goals, four assists) was a season high for the team. First MAC Roadtrip After hosting the first four MAC games of the 2007 season at Chessa Field, the Bobcats get back to the road with a pair of games in Michigan. On Friday Ohio travels to Mount Pleasant, Mich., for a game with Central Michigan before heading to Ypsilanti, Mich., on Sunday for a battle with the Eagles of Eastern Michigan. Schmitt Leads Cats Junior Erika Schmitt scored just one goal in her previous two seasons with Ohio. She was second on the team with three assists in 2006 but did not score a goal, her only score coming as a freshman in This season, however, Schmitt has emerged as one of the Cats most dangerous scoring threats with a team-high four goals and one assist. 2 About Central Michigan (5-6, 1-3 MAC) Picked to finish in the middle of the pack in the preseason MAC poll, Central Michigan is currently tied for ninth in the MAC standings with Bowling Green. The Chippewas began conference play with back-toback road losses to Ball State (1-0) and Miami (3-2). Central Michigan defeated Bowling Green 2-1 in double-overtime to win its next game but was shutout by Toledo 2-0 last Sunday. The Chippewas begin a fourgame homestand against Ohio on Friday before battling Akron, Kent State and Buffalo. Sophomore Sensations The Chippewa offnese has been led by two forwards, Stephanie Martin and Amanda Waugh. The pair has combined for 10 of Central Michigan s 19 goals. But scoring isn t the only thing the two sophomores do, they have also contributed eight assists with Martin claiming six, which ranks her second in the MAC. Martin leads the conference with 52 shot attempts - 13 more than second most. About Eastern Michigan (4-5-2, 2-2 MAC) The Eagles currently sit just one conference loss behind the Bobcats in the MAC standings, having beaten Bowling Green 2-0 and Miami 2-1. Eastern Michigan s two losses have come against the pair of teams currently leading the MAC with undefeated records - Toledo and Ball State. Notable non-conference games for the Eagles included a scoreless draw with UC-Irvine and a 2-0 loss at Michigan State. Stat Specific The Eagles feature two players ranked in the top-10 in the MAC standings in goals and assists, but neither have a point in the other category. Maggie Christensen leads the Eagles with five goals and ten points this season but has not tallied an assist. Eastern Michigan s most dangerous passer thus far in the season has been Stephanie Janssens who almost has as many assists (5) as she does shot attempts (7). The freshman midfielder from Novi, Mich., is ranked third overall in the MAC in assists. 3 Series History Friday will be a difficult game for the Bobcats if tradition plays a part. Ohio holds a record all-time against Central Michigan and has lost four out of seven games in Mount Pleasant, Mich. On the other hand, the Bobcats have had great success against Eastern Michigan, holding a record all-time. But in Ypsilanti, Mich., that mark falls to Last Season in Michigan Last year the Bobcats swept the season series against the Chippewas and Eagles. Ohio went into Central Michigan for the 2006 MAC opener and came away with a 2-1 victory. The Bobcats defeated Eastern Michigan by an identical 2-1 score in Ypsilanti, Mich., the following game. Despite the losses, Strauss led the Bobcats to a overall record and a record in conference play. The Bobcats earned the No. 2 seed in the MAC Tournament. Strauss coached a trio of players to All-MAC selections in Rachael Goulding was named to the All-MAC First Team on defense and senior midfielder Tiffany Horvath earned All-MAC Second Team honors for the third time under Strauss. Goulding and fellow freshman Amy Lower were named to the All-MAC Freshman Team.

6 Ohio s Last Two Games Ohio 3, Maimi 1 A trio of Bobcats found the back of the net, keeper Jess MacLean (Loveland) allowed just one goal for the fifth straight game and Ohio defeated Miami 3-1 on a hot and humid Sunday afternoon at Chessa Field. The Bobcats (3-6-2, 3-1 MAC) scored two goals before halftime and while the Redhawks (3-5-3, MAC) cut the lead down to one goal in the second half, Ohio answered with another score put away Miami for good. Erika Schmitt (Wyoming) scored her fourth goal of the season just five minutes into the game. Rachael Goulding (Toronto, Ontario) slipped a crossing pass through the Miami goal box and Schmitt collected the pass and dribbled around the last defender before firing a shot across the keeper to the far post. Amy Lower (West Chester) scored her first goal of the season in the 44th minute of Ohio s third win in four games when the sophomore forward received a low cross pass just a few feet in front of the net and redirected the shot past the Miami goalie. After Miami freshman Sarah Lund, a native of Malmo, Sweden, scored her fifth goal of the season in the 61st minute to cut the Ohio lead to just one goal, Lower found Lindsay Price (West Chester) just nine minutes later for Price s second goal of the 2007 campaign. The Bobcats placed nine of their 22 total shots on goal while the Redhawks were able to direct just three of their 12 total shots on the goal. Ohio took 13 of the 22 total shots in the second half. Miami keeper Krista Pace recorded six saves while MacLean needed to make just one stop. Defender Kristen Miller tallied the other Ohio save when she plucked a sure Miami score off the goal line before it could cross the plane. The Bobcats once again held an advantage on corner kicks in the contest, taking six to Miami s two. Ball State 1, Ohio 0 In a game pitting two teams tied for first in the MAC with undefeated conference marks, only one team could escape with its perfect record still intact. Ohio and Ball State played a defensive battle on Friday afternoon before 289 fans at Chessa Field but a late goal by forward Emily Rein propelled the Cardinals past the Bobcats, 1-0. In the 77th minute, midfielder Katelyn Alexander lofted a pass over the Ohio defense and Rein battled with Ohio defender Sarah Brown (North Royalton) down the field but managed to slip a shot by Jess MacLean (Loveland) to the far post for the game-winning goal. Ohio had its best chances of the game after halftime with six second half corner kicks but the Bobcats could not convert on the set pieces and the Cardinals escaped Athens undefeated in MAC play. Ohio took nine total corner kicks, while Ball State did not take any. MacLean allowed her 11th goal in 10 games and has held opponents to one goal or less in the last five games. MacLean played all 90 minutes of the game, pushing her total time in the net this season to 923:43. Mary McPhail (West Des Moines, Iowa) also played the full 90 minutes. Brown s 53 minutes on the pitch was the most of any sub. Alyssa Warren (Dublin) and Rein took both of their respective teams shots on goal. The Bobcats took 10 shots in the game compared to Ball State s four while the Cardinals 11 fouls were one more than Ohio. Both teams were whistled for one offside penalty a piece. Ohio will be back in action on Sunday with a battle against Miami at 1 p.m. at Chessa Field.
