5 Holiday News TENNIS: India Rautenbach, in Grade 4, attended the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in France during the holidays. She was fortunate enough to meet Serena Williams and watch her practice before Wimbledon. Patrick Mouratoglou, Serena's coach, owns the Academy where India trained with boys and girls from all over the world. India won the U10 girls tournament beating 16 other players. We are extremely proud of you, India! Well done! SQUASH: Rachel Howie and Leah Burns represented WP at the SA U13 Interprovincial squash championships held in PE during the holidays. There were 12 provincial teams and WP came 6th overall. The standard was high and the girls rose to the challenge. Both girls won more than half of their games and their squash improved significantly. Well done on your sportsmanship, girls! Rachel has also been invited to attend the National academy for squash in August. Rachel Howie Leah Burns NETBALL: Rebecca Joshua represented the WP Cape Schools U13 Dolphins team during the holidays. Her team took part in the Inter District tournament. Rebecca learnt a lot and loved the experience. Well done, Rebecca! Rebecca Joshua
6 Holiday News continued WATER POLO: Tyra-Lee Penney (U13) was part of the WP U14 girls Water Polo team who travelled to New Zealand to take part in the biennial Pan Pacs tournament. This is the largest water polo event in the Southern Hemisphere. Her team did exceptionally well to place 10 th out of 28 teams. Well done, Tyra! HOCKEY: Tyra-Lee Penney Dana Rose Varney was part of the WP U13 girls Hockey team who travelled to the National Tournament in Pietermartizburg during the holidays. Her team played well hard and finished with a bronze medal. Well done, Dana Rose. Emma Clarke and Rachel Howie were part of the WP U13 Zonal A girls team who took part in the Regional tournament in George. Emma captained the team and they played outstanding Hockey and won the gold medal. Congratulations, Emma and Rachel.
