2 Last Night The University of Denver hockey team lost its first game on home ice this season, dropping a 5-2 decision in the first of a two-game set against visiting St. Cloud State. The Huskies scored five unanswered goals, including three in the third period, to skate away with the victory. Denver starting goaltender Tanner Jaillet (Red Deer, Alberta) made 28 saves in the losing effort. St. Cloud showed why they re the number six team in the nation, head coach Jim Montgomery said after the game. They re so dangerous. Those three goals they scored in the third period were just beautiful goals. If you have break downs in your defensive zone or on your defensive transition, they re going to expose it. That s a very good hockey team. Denver freshman Dylan Gambrell (Bonney Lake, Wash.) registered his third goal of the season to open the scoring at 14:03 of the first period. Defenseman Adam Plant s (Penticton, B.C.) initial shot was blocked by a defender and bounced straight to a wide open Gambrell, who roofed a shot past St. Cloud State goalie Charlie Lindgren. Junior Pio Trevor Moore (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) also assisted on the play. The Pioneers extended their lead to 2-0 less than three minutes into the middle frame after Denver native Troy Terry gathered his own rebound and slid a backhand shot past the Huskies netminder. Jarid Lukosevicius (Squamish, B.C.) and Quentin Shore (Denver, Colo.) both picked up helpers on Terry s fourth goal of the campaign. St. Cloud State cut the Pios lead in half when Blake Winiecki picked up a power play tally at 13:10 of the second period. The visitors would tie the game late in the stanza as the two NCHC teams went into the second intermission even at two. The Huskies went on to score three goals in a 1:33 span in the final period to complete the comeback over the Pioneers. #6 SCSU vs #11 Denver (Dec 11, 2015 at Denver, Colo.)
