1 February 2013 Waterloo Wolves Midget AAA Hockey Volume 4, Issue 5 Wolf Talk Hero to Hero Game Night The Waterloo Wolves Midget AAA Hockey Team would like to thank their special guests who attended the January 28th Hero to Hero game. The Waterloo Wolves and the visiting team, the Cambridge Hawks, made special presentations to Phil Dyson, who was in attendance representing Hero to Hero, along with with Sgt Jeff Brazeau, PPCLI. Extra thanks to our special guests: Colour Guard of the 21 Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps, Tracy Shewfelt, rep for Peter Braid, MP Kitchener-Waterloo, Catherine Fife, MPP Kitchener-Waterloo, Deputy Chief of Police Steve Beckett WRPS, Ray Kosumovic, WMHA President, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and Clare Brennan, who sang the anthem so beautifully. Since 2009, the Waterloo Wolves have teamed up with Hero to Hero. Hero to Hero is a non-political organization that matches emer gency services personnel and sports teams with Canadian troops serving overseas. The personnel or teams from Canada send autographed shirts and other goodies to the troops, showing their support for the members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Photos from the event may be seen on page 4 of this issue Regular Season In Review Last season the Waterloo Wolves celebrated their 10th anniversary with an excellent season going undefeated in regulation time finishing with a record. The team had skill, talent, and leadership. An excellent season is sometimes hard to follow up on. The season Wolves team faced a tonne of adversity. The majority of last seasons players had moved on to Junior hockey leaving many spots to fill at the start of this season. A new coaching staff and many new players made up the bulk of this years team. Six players from last season returned to help guide the new players in their inaugural Midget AAA season. The Wolves had early success in regular season play 1st Quarter record rd Quarter record nd Quarter record th Quarter record The Wolves elected to enter 5 tournaments this season instead of the usual four. Up first was the Toronto Titans Tournament in September. The young Wolves ended up winning 1 of 4 games. The other tournaments were a good experience for the team however the results were the same going 1-3 at the Waterloo Gold Puck, 1-3 at the Sudbury Big Nickel, and 2-2 at the Kitchener Blueline. In January the team travelled to Drummondville, Quebec for their 5th tournament but couldn t earn a victory going 0-3. Waterloo finished their regular season play with a record good enough for 4th place. The team will match up with the Hamilton Huskies in the first round of this season s playoffs. Last year the Wolves dispatched the Hamilton (formerly known as) Reps in 3 games winning the series 6 points 0. The Wolves record vs Hamilton this season was Go Wolves.
