3 Why companion animal projects? This is a great way for 4-H members (8-18 years) to get involved with an animal project. Especially those that live in the urban area and may have access to a family dog or cat that they can work with on this project. You would be amazed at the transitions both the 4-H members and animals make with just one year training.» Cat: Showmanship» Dog: Showmanship, Obedience, and Rally 3

4 Who leads Dog Classes? We have dog leaders within the county that offer trainings throughout the year to work on Showmanship, Obedience, and Rally. There are beginners classes and advanced classes depending on your skill. Where are the dog classes held? Our dog leaders offer dog classes at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds. What is the commitment level? Dog Project: you need to commit time to go to dog classes and work with your dog on your own. There are dog classes throughout the year that are offered, workshops at Extravaganza, Fun Matches across the counties, and the 4-H Dog Show. Cat Project: you need to commit time to work with your cat at home on showmanship and take care of your cat such as exercising and trimming nails. There is a workshop that is offered yearly at Extravaganza. The Cat Show is somewhat new to our program and hope to grow the project to be able to offer more support. 4

Trying to train my cat was a lot of fun but the best part about the cat project was bonding with my favorite cat pepper while learning how to show Lexi Vrabec, 9 Robinson Family 4-H Club I love the animal companion projects! 6 Companion Animal Committee The Companion Animal Committee is a committee of volunteers and 4-H members that work together to support companion animal project areas (dog and cat). They work on fund-raisers, 4-H fun matches, provide workshops and trainings and help support the Arapahoe County 4-H Dog Show and Arapahoe County 4-H Cat Show. 10 What life skills do 4-Hers develop? Targeting Life Skills Model: Hendricks Only 4-H clubs, 4-H entities, enrolled 4-H members and 4-H volunteer-leaders may use the 4-H name and emblem; i.e., the 4-H clover. Other uses must be authorized by the state 4-H Youth Development Director.
