1 PINZGAUER & PINZ²YL GENOOTSKAP/SOCIETY Nuusbrief / Newsletter KERRYDALE PINZGAUER STUD Volume 3 / Issue 3 April 2015 Dale Wheeler farms in the Devon area near Johannesburg. He send us some information regarding his Stud: I started farming 9 years ago and have had my Pinzgauer herd for about 6 years now. I chose the Pinzgauer breed mainly for their temperament as well as their markings. It is important for me to be able to identify each animal on site, not just a whole herd of brown cows! My farm is also quite cold, so it was important that the cattle were able to handle that. I have tried to concentrate on producing top quality polled stud bulls for the Nguni market to breed PinZ²yls. As my farm is not big, it was important to concentrate on quality and not quantity. I have had great fun and success showing my animals and feel that this was an important part of my marketing strategy. I am very proud of the animals that I have bred up to this point, so the decision to sell my farm and the herd was not an easy one. I hope that the animals that I have produced so far will continue to provide genetic strength to the breed for their new owners. We wish him and his family good luck for the future and also with the dispersal sale. 2 VISITS Oupa Moima (Joel) from RAMULONG PINZGAUER STUD and RADIPADI PINZ²YL STUD, came to Mooketsi to view his cattle on the 5th of Mei What a wonderful day and we hope he enjoyed the day. Boetlap Pohl het sy beeste op die 6de Mei 2015 kom besoek. n Vinnige besoek wat baie waardeer is deur die personeel by ZZ2 Veeboerdery. On the 15 th of May 2015 the Mpfariseng High School came to ZZ2 Livestock division to learn more about how Stud breeding works. Mr. Zakhele (a Teacher) and almost 60 children came that day. Albert Nöffke informed them how to AI, to brand, dehorning and a lot more information. It was wonderful to see the interest of the scholars in cattle breeding. We hope they learned a lot and a few future farmers will develop out of this group. Masedi Mohale from the MOHALE PINZGAUER STUD came to visit his cattle on the 20 th of Mei We hope they all enjoyed their day and are pleased with their cattle s wellbeing.

Nampo 2015 Deur: Sue Bester Baie dankie aan die Pinzgauer en PinZ²yl lede wat die moeite gedoen het om jul Rasse by Nampo te verteenwoordig en te bemark. Die ZZ2 Veeboerdery span wat elke jaar getrou hul kant bring, Jacob Oosthuizen, Lourens de Jager, Francois de Chalain, Lukas Dinda, Clever Moyo, Client Moyo, David Matuassa, Paul en Sue Bester baie dankie vir die voorbereiding, van die Pinzgauer en PinZ²yl stalle en elke dag se harde werk. Baie dankie aan Ferdie Nel, Anton Toerien, Casper Kasselman, Igmar en Ryan Bester julle het met trots jul Rasse verteenwoordig. Die kostes vir die vervoer van die diere die verblyf en etes van die lede wat gewerk het, is gedek deur ZZ2 Veeboerdery. Wat 'n enorme borgskap. Baie dankie aan Paul Bester wat al die reëlings vlot laat verloop het asook vir sy teenwoordigheid en harde werk elke dag. Nampo 2015 was vir ons Pinzgauer Ras 'n uiters goeie advertensie aangesien ons bul Mr. Zorro die algehele wenner van die bulle uit 28 Rasse was. Die beoordeling het plaasgevind tydens die Interras Opleidings kursus van ons land se top Interras beoordelaars. Die Pinzgauer koei Delia het die 3de plek verower. Ons PinZ²yl diere staan nie terug nie, die kleine Diamond versie wat 3 weke oud is was die grootste aantrekkingskrag en

4 ook die mees gefotografeerde " meisietjie" by Nampo. Die bul Cairo van Johan en Anton Toerien van die Bakari Stoet en die Koei Pearl en kalfie Diamond van die Umfaan Stoet van Igmar Bester was 'n uitstekende voorbeeld van die Ras. Ons as Genootskap is baie dankbaar dat ons PinZ²yl uitstalling ook nou binne die Veekompleks is. Nampo 2015 was vir ons uit 'n bemarkings oogpunt uiters geslaagd. ****************************************************************************************** Nampo 2015 By Francois da Chalain On arrival at Nampo on Sunday, 10 th of May, after a long 9 hour journey, it was sad to see how dirty and dusty the stalls were. We offloaded the cattle and then began to clean. We also put up the new steel signs behind the cattle and put the cattle to bed and called it a day. weights and beef on their cattle. We arrived early the next morning and began to hang pictures and banners and also do the final clean up. We were finished with the set up by about 12:00 when things got crowded with all the other cattle breeds arriving. What a joy to have finished. Tuesday we saw the start of Nampo with lots of people visiting the PinZ²yl stall, where I was working, with huge interest being shown even from Nguni Breeders, who were looking to improve their weaner In the afternoon a cattle parade was done in the Caltex ring with a talk on each breed by the breeders. I spoke on behalf of both the Pinzgauers and the PinZ²yls. The trend of many visitors and big interest continued through the week coming to a climax with the Pinzgauers winning the best Bull and best pair also coming third in the cow group. The sad downside of the show was the lack of our breeders visiting the stands and or working on the stands. Nampo is by far the best marketing venue for us, but if you are not there you cannot market your cattle. A Big thank you to my fellow ZZ2 team for their help and support. Also thanks to Ferdie Nel, Casper Kasselman, Anton Toerien and Igmar Bester who came in to work with us. The future is red with a bit of cream on top. Our new slogan for the Pinzgauer. Thank you to the Santa Gertrudis breed, direct to Johan Malan, for giving us the idea. ******************************************************************************************************** NAMPO 2015 Deur: Lourens De Jager Nampo word elke jaar net groter en die uitstallers word net meer wat meer ontbloting vir ons Genootskap bring. Die PinZ²yle was hierdie jaar ook binne die saal en nie meer buite soos vorige jare nie, wat vir my beteken en wys dat die PinZ²yl ras bewys het dat hulle n dubbeldoelras is om mee rekening te hou. Met die opslaan van die stalletjies, het mense dadelik geweet van die ras en die Genootskap, hulle het dadelik kennis geneem van ons (ZZ2). Selfs met die aflaai van die diere (Pinzgauers en PinZ²yle) was dit met groot trots en was almal om ons dadelik bewus van ons (ZZ2) en die pragtige beesrasse.

5 Daar was baie groot belangstelling in die PinZ²yle sowel as die Pinzgauer ras onder die Nguni Boere wat Pinzgauer bulle wil aankoop om PinZ²yle te teel. Asook boere wat Pinzgauers wil aanskaf vir kruisteling op hul kuddes. (Meer vleis op hul diere.) Ons as personeel kan met trots sê dat ons baie komplimente ontvang het vir ons pragtige diere Pinzgauers en PinZ²yle. Elke aand by die Gastehuis was dit heerlik en gesellig en huislik met uitstaande kos. Dit was ook lekker om elke aand saam te gesels oor die dag se gebeure. Ons manne (Lukas, Clever, Zero en David Show) het elke oggend gesorg dat alles by die stalletjies skoon en netjies was en het hul goed van hul taak gekwyt en hulle was vreeslik behulpsaam en vriendelik. Selfs met ons terugkeer huis toe, oral waar ons gestop of gery het, het mense dadelik van ons voertuie en diere kennis geneem en het dit vreeslik aandag getrek. Dit was ʼn week om regtig op trots te wees.
