(MAY) 02- District Roundup, Levelland 11- Lockney 4-H Meeting, Community Center, 6 PM * GALA SERVERS NEEDED Please sign up if you are willing to serve at e Floyd County Friends Benefit GALA set for Saturday, April 4. All you need is a black pair of slacks, white shirt, comfortable shoes and about 2½ hours. We need lots of help from 4-H ers and parents, so please give us a call st ASAP. We will have a server s meeting on April 1 at e Unity Center at 5:30 PM. *FASHION SHOW DATE CHANGE* The County 4-H Fashion will take place Tuesday, March 24 at e First United Meodist Church in Floydada at 5:30 PM. Please let me know by March 2 if you plan to participate and turn in your narration form by NOON on March 16. Please do not be late wi e NARRATION FORM. Points will be deducted. PHOTO ENTRIES DUE All photo entries for e County Photography Contest are due by NOON on Monday, March 23. Winners will be forwarded on to e District Competition. RECORD BOOK WORKDAY A Record Book work day has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 5 during e lunch hour at e County Extension Office. Bring a sack lunch. COUNTY 4-H ROUNDUP County 4-H Roundup is set for Tuesday, April 21 at e Massie Activity Center beginning at 5:30 PM. Please turn in your County Roundup Registration on Wednesday, April 1, so we will know who all plans to participate. Everyone is asked to bring sandwiches, chips or dessert. We will provide bottled water. If you need to perform first or last because of conflicts, please let us know so we can accommodate you. STATE ROUNDUP ROOM RESERVATIONS Once again, we have e option to stay in motel rooms at State 4-H Roundup, June We need to know who all is going to be trying to make it to State Roundup and e number of rooms we would need. Please get wi your groups and let us know ASAP. CLOTHING PROJECT TOUR If you will be in town during spring break and would be interested in a cloing project tour to Plainview or Lubbock, please let me know. I would need some Mom s to help drive. The 17, 18 or 19 are possibilities. Please let me know.

Memorials help fund our Gold Star scholarships. ** 2009 STATE 4-H HORSE SHOW FUTURITY NOMINATIONS The 2009 State 4-H Futurity nominations are due April 1, Attention...Once again for 2009 if you even remotely ink you might want to participate in ANY horse event at e 2009 State 4-H Horse Show you MUST complete 2009 Horse Nomination Forms - NO EXCEPTIONS. If not you will not be able to participate in any event at e 2009 District or State 4-H Horse Show. Just simply call e County Extension Office and request your Futurity Forms or go to e web site at: * SIX PILLARS OF CHARACTER RESPECT Respect is showing oers at ey are valued for who ey are, for eir character, not what ey look like or what ey have. It means treating oers e way you want to be treated, never insulting or making fun of oers who are different in looks, ability, race or religion. A respectful person is polite, does not use bad language and never hits or uses violence. Respect means to: Value all persons Live by e Golden Rule Be courteous and polite to all Be tolerant and accepting of oers Respect oer s dignity, privacy and freedom some examples of who you should show respect to and how for 5 extra points toward your jacket, patch or senior scholarship. * 4-H LIVESTOCK JUDGING PRACTICE The first organized Floyd County 4-H Livestock Judging rd practice will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 4:15 PM at e County Extension Office. All interested 4-H ers should make plans to attend. We will also be discussing what day and time will work best to set up weekly practices. All practices will be in preparation for e Sou Plains District 4-H Livestock Judging Contest which will be held on Saturday, April 18 at Texas Tech. We will also be attending several practice contests prior to e 18 at Clarendon and Sou Plains. However I do not have ese contest dates at is time but will let each of you know as soon as I receive em. We look forward to anoer successful judging season. 3 ARCHERY & RIFLE PRACTICES Spring practices for archery and rifle have been set. The coaches have given us e following schedule: Monday s - Senior Rifle participants 5:00 PM Tuesday s - Archery 5:00, Tuesday s - Junior & Intermediate Rifle participants 6:30 Thursday s - Senior Rifle participants 5:00 PM Thursday s - Junior & Intermediate Rifle participants 6:30 Practices will be held during e week of spring break but are strictly optional. There will be NO practices held April 1-3. It is important to attend as many practices as possible. Scores and attendance will be used to determine e teams for district competition. If you cannot attend please contact Don Chesshir or Jerry Chappell for rifle and eier Shad Schlueter or Patty Davenport for archery. * FORT WORTH STOCK SHOW RESULTS The 2009 major livestock show season kicked off at e 113 edition of e Souwestern Exposition and Livestock Show in Fort Wor on January 26 - February 7, Floyd County 4-H exhibitors were 23 strong over e ree week event. To start off e Junior Division Gilt and Heifer shows were held e weekend of January Floyd County 4-H had six Junior Breeding Gilt exhibitors participate wi e following st results: Keenan Nixon, 1 Chester, 4 Duroc; Kirby Nixon, 4 Chester; Heston Graves 9 Berkshire. Also exhibiting gilts were Braden Graves, Madolyn McCormick and McCrae McCormick. Three 4-H exhibitors competed in e Heifer Division. SyAnn Foster exhibited e Reserve Breed Champion Simmental heifer along wi Reserve Breed Champion st Chianina. Segayle Foster received a 1 place Chianina rd heifer as well as a 3 place Simmental. Tylee Williams nd received a 2 place Angus. The second weekend of e show January 30 - February 1 e Junior Market Lamb and Goat Shows were held. Four 4-H ers competed here. In e Junior Market Lamb show Dillon Chesshir, Kortney Williams, Kolby Williams and Taylor Orr all exhibited. Junior Market Goat exhibitors were Kortney Williams and Kelby Williams. The final week of e show, February 2-6, e Junior Market Barrow and Steer Shows were held. Eight Floyd County 4-H junior barrow show exhibitors competed. Madolyn McCormick received an 8 place heavy weight Crossbred barrow. Oer 4-H barrow participants were: McCrae McCormick, Kirby Nixon, Keenan Nixon, Kelsey Nutt, Corbin Nutt, Kaylie Nutt and Montana Williams A total of ten Floyd County 4-h ers exhibited in e Junior Market Steer Show. Kelsey Nutt received 4 place wi her heavy weight Hereford, Mason Lipham also took home a 4 place win wi his heavy weight Crossbred steer. Kaylie Nutt received 12 place wi her heavy weight Shororn steer. Oer steer exhibitors were: Haden Lipham, Corbin Nutt, Tabia Faulkenberry, Destry Faulkenberry, Chris Emert, SyAnn Foster and Reagan Hughes. Hats off to all 23 Floyd County 4-H exhibitors on an outstanding showing at e 2009 For Wor Junior Livestock Show. SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES Start making plans NOW to attend a fun summer 4-H camp: - County Camp - To Be Announced - Junior Leadership Camp - June 2-4 Levelland (ages 10-13) - Senior Electric Camp - TBA - Prime Time I - July Ages Texas 4-H Center, Brownwood - Prime Time II - July Ages 9-11, Texas 4-H Center Brownwood - SpecTra - July 27- July 31 - Ages 14-18, Texas 4-H Center Brownwood Registration fee for Prime Time is $205 for e 3 night and 4 day event. Adults registration fee is $100. Registration fee for SpecTra is $295 for e 5 night and 6 day event. Registration will be conducted rough 4-H Connect and will be open on February 18. Registration is on a first come first serve basis. A well rounded staff of college students under e direction of You Development Professionals coordinate camp activities. Activities include: swimming, canoeing, archery, riflery, crafts, sportfishing, climbing and repelling and much more! Special evening activities for e whole camp will encourage team work and cooperation! The Floyd County Parent/Leader Association pays ½ of your way to attend!!!!
4 GLAM CAMP 4-H CLOTHING PROJECT WORKSHOP If you weren t able to attend GLAM CAMP, we missed you! We had a fun day wi Leigh Smi teaching about hair care and nail care. Cynia Cisneros taught us about face care. Patty Davenport did a color analysis on everyone. Jill Bramlet taught modeling and Kay Broerton talked about e importance of exercise. We had a luncheon and learned about table etiquette. We also had a reception for our afternoon snack. We made ba salts and decorated flip flops. Those who were in attendance were: Selena and Valerie Espinoza, Faie and Eden Hambright, Aimee and Taylor Chavarria, Rita Martinez, Michaela Jackson, Braxton Turner, Amy Scott, Macee Broerton, Jianna Davenport, Kortney Campbell and Tabia Faulkenberry. ** COW PATTIE BINGO We need a leader from each club who would be willing to coordinate COW PATTIE BINGO. Cow Pattie Bingo rd will take place during Old Settlers on Saturday, May 23. J. D. SAN ANTONIO STOCK SHOW RESULTS During February Major Stock Shows continue down e road. Fifteen Floyd Count 4-H ers exhibited livestock at e 2009 San Antonio Livestock Show held February The Junior Heifer, Goat and Gilt shows were all held during e week of February Three Floyd County 4-H members exhibited Junior Heifers. Segayle Foster exhibited e Breed Champion Simmental heifer while SyAnn Foster received e Breed Champion Chianina Heifer. Bo wins were attached wi a $6,000 scholarship. Additionally, Tylee st Williams received two 1 place wins wi her Angus Heifers. Also showing at week were two 4-H Junior Goat entries. Bo Kortney and Kolby Williams showed eir goats on Friday, February 13. The final show of e first week was e Junior Breeding Gilt Show where six Floyd County 4-H ers competed and received high honors. Braden Graves rd took home a 3 place Berk while Heston Graves had an 8 place Duroc and 8 place Hamp. Furer gilt results were Keenan Nixon who received a 5 place Chester, 7 place Duroc and 9 place York. Also, Kirby Nixon han a 5 place Chester. Oer gilt exhibitors were McCrae McCormick wi his 5 place York gilt. Also exhibiting gilts was Madolyn McCormick. The final week consisted of e Junior Market Lamb, Barrow and Steer Shows. Two Floyd County 4-H ers exhibited Lambs. Dillon Chesshir and Taylor Orr bo exhibited eir Medium Wools. In e Junior Barrow Show Montana Williams received a 4 place Duroc. Also exhibiting was Kaylie Nutt. Kaylie was e only single steer exhibitor as her shororn steer received 5 place. Congratulations to all fifteen Floyd County 4-H exhibitors on an outstanding job at is year s San Antonio Stock Show. Be watching for future show results as 4-H ers will be participating in e upcoming Houston Livestock Show.
