2 District Roundup Rules and Information Eligibility and Participation for All Texas 4-H Roundup Contests

3 DISTRICT REGISTRATION: District Roundup Rules and Information Registration will be held April 7-17, 2014 on 4-H CONNECT for Roundup Contests, Quiz Bowls and Senior Fashion Show & Fashion Storyboard. The registration fee will be $5.00 per event entered. DISTRICT ENTRIES: 4-Hers who will be participating in District 10 Round-Up will be allowed to enter a maximum of 2 contests one from each of the columns listed below. State Round-Up (Tuesday Contests): You may participate in one contest below Leaders 4 Life Beef Quiz Bowl Horse Quiz Bowl State Round-Up (Thursday Contests): You may participate in one contest below: Public Speaking Educational Presentation Share-The-Fun AGE DIVISIONS: There will be three age divisions. Age division is determined by the 4-H ers birthday as of August 31, Junior 8-10 years old as of August 31, 2013 Intermediate years old as of August 31, 2013 Senior years old as of August 31, 2013 AWARDS: First place team/individuals will receive a medal or plaque. Second through fifth place teams/individuals will receive a placing ribbon. Any other participants not recognized in the top five will be awarded a participation ribbon. VOLUNTEERS TO JUDGE ROUNDUP CONTESTS: District Roundup Contests will need volunteers to serve as judges and assist with other contests. Agents will need to CONFIRM with these individuals prior to submitting their names. We will not be sending any confirmation letters to the volunteers prior to the contest so be sure to confirm with them. Please mail or fax the Roundup Judges Form to the District Office on or before April, FAX number is to lmsilva@ag.tamu.edu and mmlogan@ag.tamu.edu MAPS: Maps to Lockhart Middle School Enclosed.

4 EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATION RULES: 1. Junior, Intermediate and Senior Entries Counties may enter as many entries in each Educational Presentation Contest. For example, a county could have 2 presentations in Junior Health and 3 in Junior Horse. 2. County entries may involve 1 to 2 4-H members. All members will need to have a role in the presentation. 3. LCD projectors and computers will be provided for each contest room by the superintendent. Superintendents are to furnish an easel for the contest for which they are responsible. 4. The Time limit for Educational Presentations is 12 minutes for presentation and 9 minutes for set up/take down. 5. Educational Presentations in each category will compete against each other for the Sweepstakes medals. One Sweepstakes Award will be awarded in each contest room for each age group. 6. All awards, including Sweepstakes, will be presented in the contest room Roundup Guide is currently available on the Texas 4-H website. Sweepstakes Educational Presentations Beef Health Open-General Clothing & Textiles Horse Promote 4-H Companion Animals Open - FCS Safety & Injury Prevention Open - Agriculture Sheep and/or Goats PUBLIC SPEAKING RULES: 1. Public Speaking is an individual contest. No team entries. 2. No props, visual aids, or audio/video recordings are permitted. 3. Time limit for public speaking presentations is 5-7 minutes. 2. Topic should relate to current events related to youth. 3. Counties may enter as many Junior, Intermediate and Senior entries in public speaking as they wish. SHARE THE FUN RULES: 1. Counties may enter as many entries as they wish in each age division. 2. See information in separate document for the Share The Fun Rules. BEEF AND HORSE QUIZ BOWL RULES: 4. Counties may enter as many teams as they wish in each age division for Horse and Beef Quiz Bowl. 5. Teams for Quiz Bowl will consist of 3 or 4 member teams. 6. There are no individual entries for Quiz Bowl.

6 Dear 4-H Member: Congratulations! We are pleased that you will represent your county at the District 10 4-H Roundup. Roundup will be held on Saturday May 3, 2014 at Lockhart Junior High School. 500 City Line Road; Lockhart, TX Below is a schedule for the day. 8:00 am Agents arrive, set up contest rooms, registration, etc. 8:15 am Judges Registration 8:30 am Judges Orientation 8:30-9:00 am Registration for all Round-Up Participants 9:00am Contests Begin in assigned locations with Awards 12:30pm Awards Presentations immediately following in contest rooms The Awards Presentations for all of the morning contests will be held in the contest rooms. The Contest Superintendent will notify you about the time. Once you find out your contest location, you can take your materials, posters, etc., to your contest room. As soon as your contest is over, take your materials back to your vehicle. In order to protect your posters, we suggest you transport them in a large plastic trash bag. An easel will be provided in each contest room. You should bring everything else you need (extension cord, ice chest, hot plate, posters, visuals, etc.). You can bring your own easel if you prefer. An LCD projector and computer will be provided in Educational Presentation contest rooms. All of the educational presentations will have a sweepstakes award for each contest room. We encourage you to stay and see all of the presentations in your room. Contestants in Share the Fun could have an opportunity to perform their act for the awards assembly. As soon as the Share the Fun contest is complete, the superintendent in each room will announce which act(s) will perform. Good luck! Remember to do your best, learn from others and have fun. This will be determined after enrollments for the contests are complete and judges for each contest are assigned.

11 2014 District 10 4-H Roundup Instructions for Superintendents 1. Provide an easel for your contest room for participants. 2. Provide a projector, computer and extension cords are setup in your contest room. Please make sure your computer has PowerPoint! 3. Review general information in the Texas 4-H Roundup Guide and give special attention to the description of the contests in which you are involved. 4. All Entries will be in your packet. Age as of August 31, 2013: Junior 4-Hers can participate on an intermediate team. Junior - 8 years and 3rd grade- 10 years old Intermediate years old Senior years old 5. Start contest as soon as possible but do not rush contestants. 6. Introduce the judges and recognize leaders, coaches and visitors. Try to put the contestants at ease. Do not rush. This event is important to 4-H members. We must help them to feel secure in their contest so they can do the best job with their demonstration. Remember, the time for setup and take down for Educational Presentations is 9 minutes total. 7. Ask contestants to draw for order in which to present their demonstration (numbers are in the packet). Ask for volunteers -- in the event they need to leave early. 8. (a) Have the judges select the sweepstakes winner for that group of presentations. This would be the presentation the judges feel is the best overall in your category. Complete 2 sweepstakes winner forms. (b) (c) (d) (e) (f) Have each judge complete a score sheet for each contestant with comments. Judges are not required to fill out scores - they will rank. Judges do need to make comments. (Review scorecard). The score sheets will be returned to tabulation and agents must pick up their packet at the end of the day. Complete copy of the Judges Report Sheet and be sure it is signed by all judges. One copy you will keep to read the results, the other will be turned in at the headquarters room with the score sheets. Compile information for each contest in the following order and paper clip: - Judges Report Form (2 copies) - Score Sheets grouped by contestant Leave contest room and area straight and dispose of anything left by contestants.

12 9. Check in at the contest headquarters so we ll know you have completed your contests and turn in your results. 10. Announcements to make: (a) (b) No score/comment sheets will be returned to participants at the contest. Urge participants to leave contest area clean and take all equipment to car when they have completed the contest. 11. The awards for all contests will be given in the contest rooms. Please plan to stay and present your awards for your contest room. You will present the placing for each category and the sweepstakes award for Educational Presentations. Thanks for your help.
