1 KEOKUK COUNTY 4-H FAMILY NEWSLETTER August & September 2016 We would like to thank all of our Fair Superintendents, Expo Board members, Extension Council members, County Council members, and all of the numerous volunteers that helped to make another great Expo happen in Keokuk County! We couldn t believe how many 4-H members and families were here to help us with clean-up, set-up, tear down, and the running of the shows. A special thank you goes to all whom donated to the Awards Wall. It was great to see such a beautiful addition to our fairgrounds be added this year! Without your help, Expo could not run smoothly. WHAT IS 4-H? 4-H IS A COMMUNITY OF YOUNG PEOPLE ACROSS AMERICA WHO ARE LEARNING LEADERSHIP, CITIZENSHIP AND LIFE SKILLS.

4 4 News and Information It s that time again to start thinking about applying for County Youth Council! If you will be in 9th - 12th grade in the school year, you may apply to be on County Council for this year. If interested, applications are on the Keokuk County Extension website at You may print out the application and mail it, bring it into the office, or you may it to mlsieren@iastate.edu as an attachment. *Applications must be received by Sept. 1st * ** Meetings are on the third Sunday of each month at 2:30 p.m.** Recordkeeping is an ongoing process that does not end when the 4-H year ends. Youth are encouraged to select from a variety of alternatives to meet their individual recordkeeping needs and learning styles. 6 National 4-h Week Activities Planned: ~ 4-H Potluck and Wiener Roast: October 2nd starting at 5:30pm Families Please bring a covered dish to share, lawn chairs to sit outside, and table service for your family members. What better way to celebrate 4-H Week than with family and friends of 4-H!? ~ Making the Best Better Cookie Plates: October 2nd starting at 5:30 pm Families Please bring two dozen cookies or bars and help make plates on October 2nd during the potluck. (after you eat, of course!) Plates will be distributed to 4-H supporters in the community on Oct. 3rd. ~ Keokuk County 4-H Tip Night October 3rd 5 8 pm at Sigourney Pizza Ranch: We are looking for volunteers 12 years old and up to tackle a one hour shift each! Contact the Extension Office by September 30th.
