Hot Dogs, drinks, and s mores will be provided by County Council members! Making the Best Better Cookie Plates ~ Starting at 5:30 pm Families: Please bring two dozen cookies or bars and help make plates during the potluck in the Extension Office (after you eat, of course!) (Plates will be sent home with 4-H families & leaders to distribute to 4-H supporters in Keokuk County communities.) Keokuk County 4-H Flamingos Have Landed! October is 4-H Month! Our 4-H Program will begin the Keokuk County 4-H Flamingo Fundraiser on October 1st! 4-Hers, leaders, superintendents, and volunteers can contact the Extension Office to put their friends on the list to be Flamingoed! This fundraiser will begin October 1st to kick-off National 4-H Week and will continue until our waiting list of Flamingoed families have been completed. How it works: -Pay $10 to add your friends/buisnesses (4-H or non) to the list to be Flamingoed! -That family/business will then pay $5 to have the flamingos removed from their yard. For $15, they can have the flamingos removed and add another friend/business to the list to be Flamingoed! -Extension staff will rotate the flamingos once payment has been received from the home/ business owner. This money can be given to the Extension Office or the home owner can contact the Extension Office to let them known payment has been dropped in the envelope that is staked in their yard. A letter will be staked in the yard along with the envelope to explain the fundraiser as they see the flamingos in their yard. -NO FLAMINGO INSURANCE can also be purchased for $20! This insurance secures your yard from the flamingos. 5 5 Awards Night Information Save the Date ~ 5:30 pm Sunday, November 18th (Please note change of day) Keokuk County Expo Hall *Meat, Drinks, Desserts and Table Service will be provided. *Families please bring a covered dish to share! County Council Members will provide desserts! Veterinarian Dr. Rhonda Wehr and her family have a rich heritage in 4-H. Her mother-in-law was a charter member of the Stick To It 4-H club, the oldest club in Keokuk County. Dr. Rhonda and her husband Larry both grew up in 4-H, as well as their 3 children: Neil, Lisa, & David. David was the 3 rd generation of the Wehr family to belong to the Stick To It club. Their 3 children were active 4-Hers and took many projects to the Iowa State Fair. Dr. Wehr credits 4-H as a big part in developing their leadership & communication skills as well as work ethic. Dr. Wehr served as 4-H dog obedience leader & superintendent for 23 years. She taught 13 weekly classes in dog obedience every summer that culminated in a dog show at the Keokuk County Expo. She increased the size of the dog project 4-fold and started an agility program. There were no funds available for agility so she and her daughter, Lisa, raised funds and built the equipment needed themselves. The equipment is still being used today and the agility course continues to be a favorite of many of the dog obedience participants. Dr. Wehr has served as dog and pet superintendent at the Keokuk County Expo for over 30 years. She works with the Clover kid program and helps with the Clover kid pet show and flower projects, both of which have grown tremendously. Her special project was serving as a mentor to many 4-Hers. She would encourage them and help them to find a niche where they could shine. Now that her children have grown up she serves as 4-H judge and enjoys that in her spare time. She has two grandchildren and hopes that they will become the 4 th generation of 4-Hers in the Wehr family. 6 Iowa State University Extension & Outreach Keokuk County th Ave - Suite A Sigourney, IA H Family Keokuk County Weigh-In s: If you are unable to attend one of the scheduled weigh-in s for your animal in Keokuk County, please contact the Extension Office for additional information on surrounding county weigh-in s. **Notification is mandatory to attend another county s weigh-in!** *BE SURE TO CONTACT YOUR VETERINARIAN TO SEE HOW THE NEW FEED DIRECTIVES WILL AFFECT YOU AND YOUR ANIMAL PROJECT! *ALL Returning Bucket Bottle Calves to be shown as MARKET OR BREEDING must be weighed in in December! 2019 Expo Swine Show will be a NON-TERMINAL show. Exhibitors are still required to bring 1 Derby Pig. Swine Weigh-In: Saturday, March 23rd 8-10 am Keokuk County Expo Fairgrounds (Inside the Southeast end of the Livestock Barn) *ALL SWINE MUST BE WEIGHED IN Market Beef Weigh-In: Saturday, December 15th 8-10 am Keoco Auction Sale Barn ALL Returning Bucket Bottle Calves Market & Breeding have to be weighed in. Lamb & Goat Weigh-In Saturday, May 4th 8-10 am Keokuk County Expo Fairgrounds (Inside the Southeast end of the Livestock Barn) *ALL 4-H State Fair lambs including Market, Commercial, and Purebred lambs will be retinal scanned and MUST attend county weigh-in Keokuk County Weigh-In s will include all 4-H & FFA Expo & 4-H State Fair animals.
