4-H Livestock Show will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Cooke County Barn.

Listed Below will be check in times: Beef: 8:00 AM with Jason & Jeanie Lawson Sheep: 8:00 AM with Gene Pelzel Dairy Goats: 8:00 AM with Beverly Fleitman Dairy Cattle: 8:00 AM with Wayne Becker Poultry: 8:00 AM with Rudy Paclik Swine: 9:30 AM with the Pethtels & Rohrboughs Rabbits: 10:30 AM with Shelley Ruland Goats: 8:30 AM with Greg & Charlan Darbro Ring 1: Sheep, Dairy Goats, & Goats Ring 2: Dairy Cattle, Beef Cattle, & Swine (Rabbits will show near the concession stand, and Poultry will show near the north door.) Showmanship: Will be held immediately after animals are judged in each species. Additional Opportunities: This year in addition to the livestock show we will be including an AG ID Contest, a Healthy Lifestyles Contest, and a Bucket Raffle Drawing. Thursday: Sheep & Goats at the Muenster Ag Barn Friday: Poultry, Rabbits, & Beef at the Valley View Ag Barn Saturday: Buyers Luncheon & Premium Sale at the Valley View Ag Barn Spin Clubs Photography-Shutterbugs: Photographers: Are you taking photos? You should be. This is a good time of year to take pictures. 1) take lots of them 2) move around your subject, take pictures from different angles. 3) try different settings on your camera. ( read the manual - it really does have good Information in it ) 4) check your show categories Food-People-Dominant color-details & Macro-Still life-night-storyboard among others! The Dates For Project Expo have been moved to March 10, 11, & 12 however the deadline is still set for March 7 th Get ready now! Poultry: Are you interested in raising chickens? Breeding, Standard, Bantam, or Market Broilers-Volunteer Rudy Paclik is willing to start a club, but we need to know if there is an interest. Red River Clover Kids We learned about the Corn Clubs for boys and Tomato Clubs for girls in Ohio in the early part of 1900's. We discussed all of the products made from corn and tomatoes and even shucked ears of corn and ate corn on the cob raw! January Red River Clover Kids Meeting

6 Valley View Valley View has had a very busy We met January 14 at the Church of Christ where we talked about county government and getting involved in the community. Our group is busy preparing for food challenge and the Food Show. Valley View Friends Group hosted an auction and Fish Fry on Saturday, February 1 with the cost of $10 per adult. Council Officers & Abigail s Arms Cooke County 4-H members: Tony Wilson, Lizzy Wilson, Jordan Hale, William Lewis, Grant Wilson, John Kilpatrick, And County Extension Agent Phyllis Griffin donate stuffed bears, part of the ABC s of Caring 4-H project, to the children of Abigail s Arms!

Applause!!! Dairy Judging: 12 members of the Cooke County 4-H attended the 2014 Fort Worth Livestock Dairy Judging Contest on Jan.

The Senior team consisted of: Trey Roland, Payton Dill, Laura Dill, and Ashley Downe; There were two junior teams, Green Jr.

Team consisted of: Lilly Muller, Amelia Becker, Anna Marie Becker, and Alison Becker; all teams were coached by Wayne Becker.

They also were scored against other 4-H teams within the local 4-H District. The Green Jr.

within District 4 they placed 1 st. The White Jr.

The Senior Team placed first in District competition.

Dairy Judging: 12 members of the Cooke County 4-H attended the 2014 Fort Worth Livestock Dairy Judging Contest on Jan. 19, The Senior team consisted of: Trey Roland, Payton Dill, Laura Dill, and Ashley Downe; There were two junior teams, Green Jr. Team: Tanner and Justin Corcoran, Laura Dill and Theresa Wyrick; the second was White Jr. Team consisted of: Lilly Muller, Amelia Becker, Anna Marie Becker, and Alison Becker; all teams were coached by Wayne Becker. At Ft. Worth teams were scored against all teams attending, including 4-H and FFA teams from across the state. They also were scored against other 4-H teams within the local 4-H District. The Green Jr. Team placed 2 nd overall, first in oral reasons and 2 nd in the Holstein classes in the Forth Worth competition; against teams within District 4 they placed 1 st. The White Jr. Team placed 3 rd overall in reasons against all other teams at Fort Worth; they placed 3 rd against other teams in their district. The Senior Team placed first in District competition. To compete in this event individuals must place a group of four cows in order from the best to the worst based on characteristics which typically enable a cow to produce large quantities of milk and withstand daily stresses of dairy herd management. They also must defend their decisions with oral reason, for which they also receive a score. Dairy Judging is a project which requires speaking and decision making skills. Participants committed to many hours of practice prior to the competition. Teen Retreat: Page 8
