2 A community event benefitting adults with intellectual and developmental challenges. The mission of the Rise & Shine Race can only be realized with the support and partnership of friends like you. Monetary donations, as well as in-kind product or service donations, serve as the backbone of this cause. There are many opportunities at various levels that are available for you or your company to support, allowing you to maximize your return on investment while shining as a positive role model in the community. ABOUT THE CAUSE The Rise & Shine Half-Marathon & 5K began in 2012 to support The Arc of Southeast Mississippi, a local nonprofit dedicated to helping people with developmental and intellectual challenges and their families. Since then, the race has provided the funds needed to establish a full-time adult program called The Rise & Shine Program. Through this program, these individuals are offered social and recreational activities they may not otherwise have received. While registration fees from the race go directly to The Arc to keep the Rise & Shine Program going, sponsorship donations help keep the race, itself, going.

3 The Arc holds a special place in my heart being a special needs parent. I can't think of a better event to support and participate in. Sarah Morgan, Multi-Year Race Participant ABOUT THE RACE The Rise & Shine Half-Marathon & 5K is hosted by Hattiesburg Clinic at its main campus in Hattiesburg, Miss., the first Saturday in April. Race participants from all over the country make their way on foot through a nationally certified race course that features serene and charming neighborhoods of the Hub City, with the half-marathon route extending beyond Hardy Street and across the campus of Southern Miss. The course route also includes many decorated water stations that depict a different theme each year. The event is a celebration of sorts with live entertainment, refreshments, photo ops, an awards ceremony, and special appearances by the race s official mascot, Blaze, and members of The Arc. Many volunteers and members of the community come out to support the cause. ABOUT THE EXPO The Rise & Shine Expo began in 2016 and is a fun, family friendly event promoting health, fitness, and nutrition. The expo is hosted by Emerge Events in conjunction with the Rise & Shine Race. All race participants are asked to attend the expo to pick up necessary materials for the race. The event is also open and free to the general public.

4 I think this event is important to the local community because it brings awareness and acceptance of our individuals with disabilities. Cassie Dennis, Race Participant & The Arc Volunteer ITEMS TO NOTE In 2017, $32,311 was donated to The Arc. To date, the race has brought in more than $100,000 for the nonprofit. The 2017 event drew 365 half-marathon participants and 325 participants for the 5K. Last year s race had more than 400 first-time participants and more than 200 repeat participants. The majority of people who participated in 2017 were women. Participation has increased by 140% since the race began in TARGET AUDIENCE Running USA released the following data based on a 2016 National Runner Survey:* U.S. runners represent an affluent, healthy target. Sixty-three percent of runners from this survey were women and 37% were men; 67% percent said they were married. Average income of most runners is $50,000-$74,999. The majority of runners were employed full-time, with the second most being homemakers. Most runners from the survey noted at least two people in their household and the second most noted a household of four. Sixty-five percent of runners primarily described themselves of frequent/fitness runners; 20% described themselves as a jogger/recreational runner; and 14% said they were a serious/ competitive runner.
