Thank you to those members who participated in the Club forum last Saturday afternoon following racing. Great feedback on the first draft of our new Strategic Plan, prepared by Ron Mason on behalf of the Strategic Plan sub-committee, Steve Begg, Dan Forbes and Simon Carter. Still a great deal of work to do on the project. The committee have set Saturday, 2 June as the date for our Annual General Meeting, a time to receive the Annual Report, present awards and elect the 2018/19 committee. Don t forget to bring along a plate to share. Thank you Steve Begg who had stepped in as Acting Secretary in Ken Mann s absence. Steve is doing a great job while Ken is lazing around the world. Our Tasar fleet is expanding, we now have seven at the club. Dennis Scammell will be seen sailing in Think Positive next season, a sneaky little purchase to add to his ever expanding fleet. Following our success hosting the 125 and Javelin Association Titles, an article was published by Australian Sailing, it can be found here Lake Eppalock turns it on for the Annual 125 & Javelin Assoc Titles. The aim is to encourage more visiting associations to our shores. Our first sailing day for next season will feature a Back to Bendigo for the Sailfish Association. This promises to be a great day of sailing, weather permitting. I am sure Jack Carroll will be in the thick of it. Further information will be available soon. As we near the end of the summer sailing season, it is time to clean up under boats and vans and generally tidy up in preparation for the winter. On this note if you have a boat/trailer stored at the club, it would be a great help if you could take this opportunity to let the Boat Storage Manager, Rowan Gillies, know which/where your boats/trailers are stored. A number of boats and trailers have been at the club for a very long time and identifying the owners can be at times difficult. Recently there has been some movement in the caravan parking area, some vans have relocated to different sites and others have been taken off site. May I ask that if you are taking your van away, please let Dan Forbes or another committee member know, that way we know it hasn t been stolen. And finally, we aim to be as environmentally pro-active as possible and so it would be appreciated if you could please take home your recyclable rubbish when you leave. Although we have a recycle bin in the BBQ area, we depend on one of our members who kindly collects, sorts and takes it away. This is a significant task, so if we can assist by not leaving behind as much that would be appreciated. Enjoy what is left of the season! Andrea McGregor Mainsheet April, 2018

The pulleys and ropes were replaced on the flag raising frame on Campaspe during the 125/Javelin titles held recently, thanks to those members who helped with the replacement. A 2000 litre water tank was donated to the club by a member recently. It is proposed that this tank will be incorporated into the system that supplies the clubhouse. Recycling was discussed at the last general committee meeting and it was decided to encourage members to take their recycling home whenever possible, this will help reduce the onus on just a few members having to bear the responsibility of removing the recycling from our site. Several members have already expressed interest in the idea of having regular maintenance working bees over the winter period. The proposal is that we will meet at around 9.00am and finish with lunch at about 1.00pm. on a Wednesday every fortnight. Not only will we achieve a significant reduction in the amount of outstanding maintenance type jobs but it will be an opportunity for us to maintain contact over the winter break. As usual the club will supply the ingredients for morning tea and lunch. Being a gender equal club, ladies will be made as welcome as gentlemen to participate ( and won't be expected to make the tea/coffee!! ). Contact me on or for details or keep an eye on our Facebook or web page. As always it would be appreciated if any maintenance requests come via the maintenance request form located on the Club s Web page. 6 The day began with a menacing sky and there wasn't a great deal of confidence that the afternoon s race would take place, but although it was dark with a few showers, the race was run and won. Congratulations to Di Floyd who took out the Lady Skipper s Race for the second year in a row. Lil Maher came in second and the dynamic team of young Abbie Henderson with her Dad, Mark Gillies as crew, were third. Di donated the proceeds raised to Beyond Blue - a very worthy cause. It was great to see some of our skipper s dress for the occasion and once again Denita made an appearance. Ladies Day just wouldn t be the same without her presence. Mainsheet April, 2018

Your feedback will help determine the grading of meat that is later sold around Australia. Plus for every group of 60 people our Club delivers, the organisers give us $1000! No strings attached, no further effort. They supply everything that s required. Bring along your family and friends and have fun! Interested?? Are happy to be called by someone from the Club in relation to their participation in this event. Please Note: This is NOT a BYO event. For further information, please see Mainsheet April, 2018
. Bull Sheet It s been quite some time since Bull Sheet has made an appearance, but it was felt after a recent weekend cruise from Picnic Point on the Murray, a report was warranted. It was a cruise where we fried one day and were nearly blown out of the water the next. Masts and sails were left at home and four trailersailers took to the water - Kevin s Freewind, Brian and Merilyn s The Guv ner General, Graeme and Julie s Why So Serious (aka The Purple People Eater) and Ken and Jen s Shamrock with Paddy the pup joining us to oversee the whole exercise. We launched on the Friday evening without incident. It was the first trip for Why So Serious since Graeme had taken ownership, and the new paintjob on the Sonata 7 with the name emblazoned on the side was outstanding. We spent a beautiful evening at Picnic Point and the following morning headed upstream in a very full river with Brian s hand crafted Canadian canoe bobbing behind the Guv ner General. A quick stop for lunch and Paddy and I went for a walk along the road which followed the river. We hadn't gone far when we were confronted by a very fat six foot brown snake which sent us scurrying back to the boats in a hurry. Several hours on, and with the day getting hotter, we found a spot where a small creek entered the Murray and made camp. While the rest of us went for a swim, Brian took Merilyn exploring the wilds of the creek. Quite the romantic is the Guv. They returned some time later rather sodden after Brian had upturned the canoe and dunked his lady in the drink. We spent a quiet evening chatting by the river and enjoying our meal but woke the next morning to a gale blowing from the west. Having gathered our gear we headed downstream with the considerable current behind us. Ken and I were in the rear when we received a call from the G.G. requesting assistance. We rounded the bend to be greeted by the site of the G.G heading for the bank towing a completely submerged canoe. It seemed a gust of wind had caught it and the canoe had become airborne. Serious went to assist as Brian frantically bailed and Ken and I went on a mission to retrieve a paddle which had escaped and was disappearing downstream at a rate of knots. Brian had spent almost as much time shaping and laminating that paddle as he had done on the canoe. Mainsheet April, 2018
The circus continued. After completing their assist Serious backed away from the bank only to find the rudder cord had wound around the propeller jamming everything. A tow was called for and Shamrock, the little fat Farr, took the Sonata in tow and our procession headed for Picnic Point much to the amusement of several fishermen that we passed. Contact Ken for information about upcoming cruises: or coulsonken864@gmail.com Now, to get a 23 foot boat with no motor or steering into shore in a very fast flowing river is not an easy feat. After a couple of attempts to achieve the correct propulsion we let her go and Serious glided into the bank and to the waiting hands of Kevin and Brian. Success was achieved with no damage done It's an interesting experience cruising with our motley crew, and always a lot of fun.
