It is a 25-year lease with renewals every 5 years. I would like to thank everyone involved over the years that had anything to do with the development of this document, with a special thanks to Bob Moss, our negotiator, who had been working on it since To keep this short, the basic changes were in the language of the lease in the places where we had asked for changes. And best of all, our lease rate went down. This year has seen great communications between the Port and the Club. The Club hosted a tour and luncheon for the Port s Board of Directors, and direct dialog with the port has created a very positive and productive year with the Ports CEO, management staff, and the entire Board. We have been asked by some concerned members that our online Logline should be moved off the public side of the website and placed on the member only side after this edition. The Logline has personal information in from time to time and some members felt it should not be easily accessible by the general public. The executive agreed. By the time this report comes out (hopefully) the club s Moorage Application lists and the Lateral Move Request lists should be posted to the Members Only Section of our website at nanaimoyc.ca. These lists will be automatically updated every night with the most up-to-date information on moorage. Cont... Submissions to the Logline: elogline@nanaimoyc.ca

Commodore s Report continued Because the executive is working towards getting clear and correct information out to all the members of the club, information that has or could have a direct impact on the club and our members will be distributed. That brings us to every one s favorite topic: parking. I know that many members thought that the parking issues were over. Unfortunately, that is not the case. In spite of all the information that has been provided repeatedly that clearly explains. One item that is ongoing at this time is a Civil Resolution Tribunal (Small Claims Court). This action was filed against the club by Mr. Doug Compton, to have the club pay his (and two others) towing charges, as he does not agree with the legal opinion that the executive followed which found two motions to be out of order. I will not go into any further detail at this time because the Tribunal is still underway. When there is a resolution we will inform you. I hope everyone had a good summer with lots of boating and water sports. Commodore Doug Bell Signing of the Port Lease

Vice Commodore s Report Michael Ganderton September Logline I hope everyone has enjoyed the summer as much as I have. We had a beautiful trip to Lake Washington with family and friends and ended the summer with attending the corn roast. As many members have thought we are done with parking, the issue is still ongoing. Currently the executive is dealing with a member that has exercised their right to take us to an on line Civil Resolution Tribunal. The process was initiated to see if they could get their towing fees back for being illegally parked in the parking lot. I will keep the membership informed on the outcome!!! On another parking lot issue. Just a reminder that when you are parked in the parking lot please leave enough room so we can have fire truck access. During some busy weekends, a fire truck would have had a tough time navigating through our lot. We have a Port Authority lease!!! Thank-you to all that were involved in the process. With the lease being signed, they have asked for an environmental study. I will be working on this task as it is time sensitive to the Port Authority. The Commodores ball will be held on Saturday November 10th. Tickets will be on sale in early October and I invite you all to come and celebrate a great evening of Fellowship with me. As fall approaches and the weather is still willing, I hope to see you around the club or out on the water. Enjoy your fall cruising Michael Ganderton Note: NO General Meeting Dinner in September However the Bar is open before and after the meeting: commencing at 18:00 hrs Meeting Dinners will resume in October New Member Applications Ted Grounds New Members: Jack Mawhinney and Susan Beyerstein Matt Royle Ken and Joanne Swain Jennifer and Michael Heninger Stephen and Grace White Oriented: John Bourgetel and Lynell Peters Christopher Scarr and Rena Romain Alexander and Bridgitte Netherton

Fleet Captain s Report Leslie Smith Hope everyone had a great summer! We were able to get out a few times and enjoyed spending time with members as well as taking friends out for day sails. Basil Hobbs Memorial SIN Weekend, What a Party! Thank you everyone for volunteering your time in making this such a great event. Special thanks to Wendy Stewart and Shirley Maudie for putting up with my endless phone calls, s and meetings. You Ladies Rock! Huge kudos to Bill Jones as the committee chair who held it together! Margaritaville was held August 17th & 18th. Thanks to Jamie MacLennan and his crew for hosting "It`s Staff Captain s Report Gilbert D. Requena I hope everyone had a great summer. The smoke and the many fires have caused some issues but it s been a good summer regardless. Many visitors stopped by and spent some time at our club. As usual there were many Club sponsored activities taking place. The Snowbirds Airshow on August 8th was a success. It was extremely well attended and money was collected at the club as well as on the water. Past Commodore Pat Grounds and her husband Ted attended a dinner at the Port Authority as representatives of the Nanaimo Yacht Club. Past Commodore Bob Bollinger collected donations for the C.H.I.L.D. Foundation from the many boaters in the Harbour while his wife Dorothy with their son, Derek and grand kids Robie, Jamie and Sara helped Past Commodores Sheila Boutcher and Terry-Lynne Campbell Five O`Clock Somewhere". To end the summer Gabe Fekete and team hosted the Corn Roast on Thetis Island. Great three day family event. Summer Sailing ended with 150 kids participating, 13 Keelboat courses, 10 plus private dinghy lessions, as well as a weekend of private yacht training. Preseason overhauling the coach boats paid off as there were no breakdowns. Thank you John Rose for continued dedication to our sailing program. Our summer racing has been busy with several events going on. Hopefully some of you came out to the Wednesday Evening Races/Summer Bar Nights. Congratulations to our NYC Junior Racers for their Silver at the BC Summer Games. Well done Josh Jeffers & Julie Morris. See you in September! Leslie Smith to collect donations at a booth in front of the Clubhouse. They collected approximately $2600 that night. Thanks also to Sandra Lambert and her bar committee for providing bar service for that evening The Nanaimo Yacht Club received a letter from the C.H.I.L.D. Foundation thanking us for our Snowbirds Airshow sponsorship and the donations collected that night. The Silly Boat event was very successful with some interesting moments and as usual, lots of FUN. It was unfortunate that we couldn t find anyone to chair the Silly Boat Fundraiser for our club. Hopefully, next year we ll get volunteers. On October 13th, we ll have a Fall Wine and Cheese. I know it s still early but we would like to see all of you there so mark your calendar! IN MEMORIAM It is with heavy heart that we tell you of the passing of Wilfred Bradley. He joined November 18, 1971 and was a Life Member and had passed away on July 19th. A celebration of life was held at the club on September 23.

Rear Commodore s Report Jim Goehringer There is great news from this boat owner. After a rather unbelievable repair journey, Fish Tank finally has both engines fresh and running strong! The process has been arduous to put it mildly. I am so happy to be all fixed and able to get back cruising and fishing and doing the things I love. On a related note, I hope the folks at Volvo parts enjoy their new swimming pool and invite me over for a swim, as I probably paid for it. My struggles keeping my boat working reminds me of the passion and determination that it takes sometimes for all of us to mess about in boats We are all boating recreationally because we have a passion for being on the water. The members at NYC constantly show that passion with their volunteer spirit and work ethic that keeps the club the best on the coast. I am very thankful to all the people before my time that put their passion into the club to make it what it is for all of us to enjoy. The reciprocal docks have been very busy this summer and as usual Rusty and his crew, Amanda and Nathaniel, did a great job welcoming and assisting the high volume of reciprocal visitors. Many thanks to them as well as the members that let him know they are away on their boats. This is always a challenge to find space for everyone. Welcome Aboard committee Any members that regularly attend meetings will no doubt have seen the fantastic influx of new members in the last couple of years. It is so nice to see. The club removed the barrier for new members requiring sponsors and this has been a positive change in attracting members. The drawback to this is the sponsors were often the liaison between the new members and the club with regards to activities and events. I have created a new committee the will be responsible to phone new members and invite them to club functions and explain events and activities. There is a signup sheet for this really fun and important committee in the clubhouse and I see there are a couple of names there already. I think we need a couple more to get this going as I will be getting this initiative up and running for September. Sign up or contact me if you would like to help. Sleepy Boats. Unfortunately this issue is still an ongoing problem for NYC. There are members that are clearly not using their boats and using their moorage privileges for cheap storage. I can t help but wonder if these members would keep their boats year after year without using them if they were paying full pop for moorage down the channel. I have a list of vessels that have not moved from their slip in ages and I will be reviewing this list after the summer cruising season. If you get a call from me regarding your vessel there is only one way to get off the sleepy boat list and that is to let the office know you are going to leave the dock. The signup sheet at the ramp is not sufficient to get you off the list. If there is a reason you won't or can t use your boat please contact me or the office and let us know. I know there are valid reasons for inactivity and we just need to know. Incident reports. Having been around the dock so much this season, I have seen quite a number of collisions and docking mishaps as well as a fall on the dock. I have also heard of a few thefts and we should be logging these as well. I would like to remind all members using the property that we have an incident report form in the office that needs to be filled out if there is an accident, theft, or injury. It is very important to have a record of who, what, where, why and when if there is ever a need to follow up for insurance or any other reason. Residential Garbage. I have been made aware of members bringing bags of residential garbage and recycling up the docks and using the Club dumpsters for household refuse. I would like to remind all members to limit the use of the waste receptacles for clubhouse and boat use only. If all 700 members dropped their extra household waste in our bins, we would be needing to empty them every day and that s not cheap! Hopefully we get spectacular weather for the fall cruising season. Say Hi if you see Fish Tank out there! Rear Commodore Jim Goehringer.

Race Report Courtney Simpson The summer regatta season saw NYC race boats travel around the Strait of Georgia and further afield to compete with boats from other clubs. At the time of writing, Tim Daniel s Optical Illusion was in first place in the Vancouver Island Racing Series. Just a couple more regattas left before the title will be decide. We are all rooting for you, Tim and Crew! At NYC our formal racing events take a break for the summer. However, for the second year in a row the bar was open on Wednesday nights to coincide with the Dinghy Dock race. This year we had a food truck at NYC so that bar patrons could have dinner, and this seemed to work well. It was certainly much less work to organize than the BBQ we hosted every Wednesday night last year. As with any new initiative we had a few ups and downs and details to sort out, but all in all it was a success and a great way for more and different Club members to use our facilities. Big thank you to Bar Committee Chair Sandra Lambert and all the bar committee members who staffed the bar on Wednesdays. The Spring Series racing starts on Sunday, September 16th, and the Notice of Race will be posted soon to the NYC website. The annual race meeting is on Wednesday, September 19 at 7:00 pm at the NYC lounge. I will be stepping down as Race Chair after three years. I have enjoyed this time but it is ready to take a break, and I look forward to some new energy and ideas from a new Race Chair. See you at the start line, Courtney Simpson Sailing School Report Jon Rose The stats so far (and likely to be pretty much the final stats) are Dinghy courses sold 206 weeks, (each kid that books a week of summer camp counts as one week.) this breaks down to around 150 individual kids. Further breakdown WetFeet (5 to 8) 36 weeks; Opti (8 to 12) 105 weeks and CANSail 420 (12 to 19) 65. As you can see we sell twice as many kids into Opti s than 420 s. All equates to Dinghies up 12% Keelboat up 10% IYT up over 125% Downside Race team numbers have fallen by 25% School revenue is down considerable but was expected as we had a big foreign school in last season. All the work done preseason overhauling the coach boats is paying off as we ve had no breakdowns or down time on any coach boats this year. The first time since I ve been here. Other 13 keelboat courses IYT 17 week long courses Other - 2 weeks of private keelboat Over 10 private dinghy lessons A weekend of private yacht training. Cheers Jon Rose Sailing School Manager

BLUEWATER CRUISING VI SEPTEMBER PRESENTATION MID-ISLAND GROUP Salish Sea to the Sea of Cortez Brian Short September 20 Join Brian Short as he regales his audience about his voyage down from Vancouver Island to the Sea of Cortez this past winter. Start with the jump to San Francisco then follow the harbour hopping to Cabo san Lucas, La Paz, Mazatlán, La Cruz and San Blas with many stops in between. Brian travelled with crew for part, with his first mate Glenda, and also sailed alone. His 45 Beneteau Oceanis Carpe Ventus mostly held together for the trip with the occasional, nay, frequent trips to the chandleries for parts and repairs. Come and hear tales of woe and ecstasy, see pictures of this great West Coast voyage, and learn a bit of the psychology of voyaging. Is this trip right for you? Brian will try to help you answer that question. 8 2018 Boat Safety Inspections This year the boat safety inspections will be conducted on the weekends of : October and November 3-4, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All boats moored in the Yacht Club must be inspected annually during these weekends. We do these inspections to ensure the safety of your vessel, your neighbours boats and the integrity of the Nanaimo Yacht Club Marina. Volunteer safety inspectors are always appreciated. Sign up sheets will be posted in the clubhouse. Michael Harrison Office Memo Laura Hello Everyone, The first week of October is our next billing cycle. This will be for all members. Please make sure to keep an eye out for your invoice the first week of October. For all members that receive your invoice by , if you do not receive it by October 9th, please or phone the office so that I can reissue it as quick as possible. For all members that receive your invoice by regular mail, if you do not receive it by the end of the second week of October, please contact the office as soon as possible. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all of those that do online banking to please set us up as a payee as you do for Telus, Shaw, Hydro, etc. We are registered as a payee. This is the most effective way of getting a payment to us. We will also be sending out an opportunity to donate to the SAR's as we do each year in the fall. If you wish to donate, please just make a note as to how much you wish to donate. On a side note, from the middle of September to the end of October, is a very busy time in the office with billing and Year End. The door to the office will be closed to members during this time. I'm always up for a quick hello, but that is all I will be able to do and your assistance with this is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Laura
