The newsletter is back after a short break and has a new look. Dive Dive Dive will keep you up to date with what s going on in the club, news, events, fundraising, competition results, features and much more. Good Bye and Good Luck to Marc and Dan The Club will bid a sad farewell to two of its familiar faces as they both head off to Plymouth for the next stages in their careers. Coach Marc Holdsworth has been successful in getting a coaches position and Dan Goodfellow is moving there to continue his training and work to achieve his dream of getting a place in the 2016 Olympic Squad. Read more inside. New Look DIVE DIVE DIVE Many many thanks to Janet Trewin for all of her hard work with Dive Dive Dive and for her memorable publications however Janet has handed on the baton and as the newly elected PR Officer, it falls to me to try to fill the huge void left by Janet s departure and to publish the newsletter. The newsletter will be published bi-monthly and keep you updated on club news, competition results, events and features. Please drop me a line with any news, photos, funny stories, articles, items you would like to see covered and I will do my best. Let me have your feedback, good, bad or otherwise - at the end of the day it is the newsletter of the club and needs to cover as much as possible and represent as many of you as possible. Contact details are at the back of the newsletter. NEW DIVE COACH RECRUITED Top - Dan and Marc Bottom Dan in his signed T-Shirt saying goodbye. Lottie Thompson has been recruited as Marc s replacement and starts at the Club in early June. Lottie comes to CDT from Southend Diving Club. We look forward to welcoming her to the club. DANIEL - GOOD BYE AND GOOD LUCK Daniel has been with club for eight years having joined up as a mere novice at the age of eight.

This is a huge step for Dan as he is in his GCSE year and will be moving to Plymouth College to finish his studies in ten subjects he is currently undertaking.

Plymouth College is no stranger to diving excellence having hosted the like of Tom Daley and has strong links with the Plymouth Dive Club.

2 DANIEL - GOOD BYE AND GOOD LUCK Daniel has been with club for eight years having joined up as a mere novice at the age of eight. Since then he has gone on to achieve tremendous success and put the club in the national spotlight. This is a huge step for Dan as he is in his GCSE year and will be moving to Plymouth College to finish his studies in ten subjects he is currently undertaking. Dan could have waited until after his exams but to give himself the best chance of achieving his 2016 goal he took the decision to go now. Plymouth College is no stranger to diving excellence having hosted the like of Tom Daley and has strong links with the Plymouth Dive Club. Dan will increase his training from six times a week to ten with the college offering extra support to students in order to cope with their heavy training schedule. All being well, Dan will then go on to complete his 'A' levels there as well. Speaking to Dan, he is leaving with fond memories of the club that got him started in his diving career. Dan said "I will miss the club and I am very grateful for all of the support that the club has given me. I would like to say a massive thank you to the coaches and to Sharyn and the committee for everything that they have done for me. To the many friends I have in the club I will keep in touch and look forward to catching up at competitions. This is a wonderful opportunity for me but I will miss the club where it all started for me, I hope I go on to do the club proud" SHARYN REFLECTS ON DANIEL S TIME WITH CDT It will be very sad to see Daniel go but on a positive note we will watch and encourage his progress in Plymouth. When Dan and his twin brother, Matthew, first came to the Club it was obvious that were both talented divers. Matthew went on to win National honours at novice level but decided against moving on to Age Groups. Dan was more competitive and grabbed the chance to push himself. He has worked extremely hard over 8 years to achieve his amazing results. Watching Dan develop both as a diver and as a person has been very special. He has been as ambassador for CDT, winning many sports awards and always acknowledging the club. He, with Lucy Cliff, were the first home grown junior internationals. Now Dan has added senior international to that list. I know I speak on behalf of the whole club when I say we will miss him loads but he has to come back and see us often Last Sunday saw a farewell picnic for Dan and Marc at Cherry Hinton Park. After a competitive game of rounders (using Aaron s creative and ever changing rule book) a farewell human pyramid was created (pictured). Later at the pool there was not a dry eye in the house as people said their farewells to Dan and presented him with a signed club t-shirt.

3 MARC -- GOOD BYE AND GOOD LUCK SHARYN REFLECTS ON MARC S TIME AT CDT. Marc joined us in July 2009 but he was a difficult catch. CDT prides itself on choosing not only the best coaches, but those that will fit into the Cambridge mould. Unbelievably, Marc was reluctant to join us - unsure if it was the right career move for him. After a good deal of talking and arm twisting we persuaded him to leave Sunderland to join us - thank goodness. It was difficult initially but now he speaks English (almost) things have improved! The first thing I noticed about Marc is his bubbly smiley personality. It seems that whatever I have thrown at him or moaned about, he has still managed to smile or laugh his way out of the situation. The second thing that voice, how does he manage to shout so loud?! He has been devoted to Cambridge Dive Team and proud to wear the shirt - even without ironing it! We are certainly going to miss him. I think it has been a brilliant mix between Marc and Sam, and the divers have benefitted enormously by their different approaches. Our loss is British Diving s gain and I am pleased that we have provided the platform (no pun intended) for him to progress his career. I wish him every success and said that he has to come back and see us. There are some plans to do something special on his return visit watch this space. Marc has been coaching at the club for four years and will be sad to go but talking to him it is clear that he has given the matter a huge amount of thought and it has not been an easy decision. Marc started his diving career at the Bradford Esprit Diving Club before joined Leeds Diving Club at the age of 14. Marc has represented Great Britain and was National Champion on several occasions. Marc started coaching at the age of 15 and began to realise that if he was not to achieve his dream of reaching the Olympics then through coaching he may be able to coach and support others so they could get there. Marc is passionate about performance and wants all of the divers that he coaches to achieve their very best. Marc is the first to acknowledge that he can be slightly brutal in his critique of a diver and will readily admit that he says it as it is, but he believes that this is essential in getting a diver to achieve their full potential and to maybe one day to become an Olympic diver. Joining the Olympic Coaching Team in Plymouth presents a massive opportunity for Marc, allowing him to work with top class divers and coaches. Marc is going to miss the divers in the club, many of whom have only ever known him as their coach. Marc said "I wish I could take all of my divers with me, I will miss them. I am delighted that I am going to continue to be able to work with Daniel but there are many others who I would love to take. I will always put my divers first and do so very much want them to perform to their full potential". Marc wants to thank everyone at the club for the support that they have given him but in particular Sam for bringing him to Cambridge in the first place by letting him know of the vacancy and then for his continued help and support whilst he has been here. Speaking of his successor Lottie, Mark wishes her well and hope she enjoys it as much as he has. Life on poolside won't quite be the same without Marc and Dan but I am sure neither will be a stranger to the club.

When you consider we are only a 5m venue this is an outstanding achievement. Since then, Daniel has gone on to become one of Britain's most talented young divers and I wish him all the best in chasing his Olympic dreams. With hard work and dedication, combined with a little fun, I'm sure he will be sending me a front row ticket to Rio in a few years time. The success of Daniel and the club has a huge amount to do with Marc. He is a fantastic coach and will be sorely missed. COUNTY NOVICE AND SPRINGBOARD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2013 Cambridge Dive Team swept the board at the County Diving Championships.

5 COUNTY NOVICE AND SPRINGBOARD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2013 Cambridge Dive Team swept the board at the County Diving Championships. Francis Webb and Jessie Curtis were gold medalists in the County Novice Championships, whilst Emma Watson and Sebastian Jaunzens were each double winners in the Women s and Men s 1m and 3m springboard championships. With 34 divers competing across 6 events the crowds enjoyed some very intense and closely fought competitions Competing in the County A event were several divers hoping to achieve some good results before heading off to the National Finals at the start of May. Throughout the competition the lead changed hands several times and at one point the top 8 divers were only separated by 10 points. The competition finished with excitement with the lead again changing from diver to diver before Frances Webb performed an outstanding back fall straight to clinch the title. Her final score was 276.3, with Joshua Starmer finishing second with , and Alicia Offin taking the bronze with points. The County B competition is set up for those divers working their way up to National Skill level and is a good platform for the divers to build from. Many of the divers in this event were competing for the very first time so nerves were abundant amongst the young divers. Using a mixture of jumps, line ups and dives this sets the foundation for building talented divers of the future. Points appeared hard to come by in the early rounds but once the divers had settled the competition became full of excitement. Holly Seiler (only aged 7) overcame a very nervous attempt at the back fall straight from the 1m to receive the biggest cheer of the night but the competition was eventually won by Jessie Curtis with a points total of Toby Chapman narrowly took the silver with just ahead of Nathaniel Darler with In the Men s events, Sebastian Jaunzens took both the 1m and 3m titles edging out the younger Ben Cutmore and Daniel Murphy who finished in second and third respectively. Sebastian performed the most complex list of dives scoring highly from the judges. Showing promise were Dominic Jaunzens and Oliver Cook who made the step up to be eligible for the men s event. Emma Watson wowed the crowds with her style and grace as she claimed both the 1m and 3m titles in the Women s springboard events. Challenging hard behind her were Lucy Hughes and Annie Thomas. First blood went to Lucy Hughes in the 1m event finishing with a total of and Annie a total of Annie took revenge in the 3m event and out-scored Lucy by over 20 points. The competitions were a huge success and fun was had by all. The results and more importantly the dives being performed suggest diving is a growing sport in the county and the Cambridge Dive Team are a dominating force. Answers to: chris@cambridgediving.org.uk CAMBRIDGESHIRE COPS HAVE A GO AT DIVING Back in April, 18 Cambridgeshire Cops hung up their handcuffs and tried their hand at diving. Under the supportive coaching of Sam (as highlighted in the picture) there were belly flops, face plants, back slaps, bombs and it had to be said, if you looked hard enough, there were one or two half decent dives. Thanks to Sam for his support - the cops had a great time and at 10 for an hour coaching, club funds were boosted too.
