1 NORTHFIELD SKATEBOARD COALITION ANNUAL REPORT 2014
2 HIGHLIGHTS OF 2014 The Northfield Skateboard Coalition had a successful year in 2014, coming closer than ever to its goal of building a permanent skatepark in Northfield. Here are some highlights of the year: January The City of Northfield advertises a call for proposals (CFP) for a skatepark design firm. The Skateboard Coalition changes its fiscal agent from the Northfield Union of Youth (The Key) to Northfield Healthy Community Initiative (HCI). Three adult advisors of the Skateboard Coalition (Cecilia Cornejo, Jane McWilliams, and Rob Hardy) receive the Northfield HCI Making a Difference Award. Northfield HCI Making a Difference Award (January 2014). Photo by Joy Riggs. May The Skateboard Coalition launches its GiveMN.org online fundraising site (as a project of Northfield HCI). A women s wine and cheese fundraiser for the skatepark is held in the Old Memorial Park neighborhood, raising $1,795 and kicking off the year s fundraising effort. The Skateboard Coalition video is posted on YouTube. June Pillar Design Studios is chosen to design the skatepark. 2
3 July A representative from Pillar Design Studios visits Northfield to meet with members of the Skateboard Coalition and gather design input from local skateboarders. A benefit concert at The Key raises $394 for the skatepark. At the concert, the Coalition begins selling new t- shirts and buttons with the Skateboard Coalition logo. July Benefit Concert at The Key August Just Food Co- op selects the Skateboard Coalition as its community partner for August, and raises $ for the skatepark from patrons rounding up their totals at check- out. September The Skateboard Coalition makes a presentation to the board of the Northfield Rotary Club, and is chosen to receive a $15,000 donation from the Rotary Club (through a combination of an outright gift and a joint fundraiser). The Rotary Club also offers to send a Coalition member to Camp Enterprise in November to develop leadership skills. 3
4 November A benefit concert at The Cave at Carleton College, hosted by Carleton skateboarders, nets $800 for the Skateboard Coalition (including a $400 match of proceeds from the concert). A Coalition member, Spencer Fredrickson, attends Rotary Camp Enterprise. GiveMN s annual Give to the Max Day (Thursday, November 13) nets over $4,000 for the Skateboard Coalition. Fundraising letters are sent out to members of the Northfield community. December The Skateboard Coalition ends the year with a total of nearly $71,000 in cash and pledges, almost $47,000 of which was contributed or pledged in Brad Siedlecki (Pillar Design Studios) and Charley Markson (Northfield Skateboard Coalition) discussing the skatepark design. July
