2 Pg. 2 President s Letter for September 2017 I am just back from marching with the Purdue Alumni Marching Band. We participated in a halftime show combining the Alumni Band with the Student All-American Marching Band at Purdue Homecoming. It was a blistering 90+ degrees and we suffered through a long (9 hour) day especially unusual since it shouldn t be that hot in the fall. Speaking of fall, summer is over and winter is just around the corner. It s time for you to tighten up your muscles for ski season. Also, you will want to check over your equipment and replace or repair anything that is not up to snuff. You may want to attend the Windy City Ski & Snowboard Show (Oct ) to check out the new stuff. Please look at the trips we are planning for this winter and sign up for the ones you want to go on. Steamboat, Schuss Mountain (ISC Trip) and Cascade (one-day) are still available, as well as CMSC Europe (Austria), CMSC Spring Fling (Copper) and the Nomad s Brule Mountain. Dig into your pockets for deposit money and sign up soon. We have obtained some more spots for Sun Valley, but likely only enough for our waiting list. Contact me for the Brule and Cascade Mountains trips. Brule is December 8-10 and Cascade is February 2. A deposit of only $10 or $20 is required for Cascade. You ll want to sign up for the DSC Christmas Party on December 1 (see article). Deadline to sign up is the November meeting. Don t forget about the following upcoming DSC events: the Chili Cook-Off on October 1 (a couple of cooks are still needed), the DSC Remembrance Ride on October 8 and, of course, the Christmas Party. Information on all these events is elsewhere in this issue of the Inside Edge. If you missed the pool party at Cheryl and Joe s, we had a great time but didn t get into the pool. It was a bit chilly. Last week, some DSC and Nomads members came back from a legendary trip to Alaska. I hear it was fabulous. Those who see The Chronicle newspaper may have noticed an article about DSC in the September 13 issue. And finally, we have become aware through the CMSC of travel insurance that is very affordable and applied not just to ski trips, but to any travel you do. Many options are available at a fraction of the cost that you would pay most travel agents. A copy of the details is available from Bill Leavitt or your trip leader. You can have questions answered by the vendor, Travel Protectors, at or myra@travelprotectors.com. Don t let the flakes get you down Bill
