2 About Zayed sports city Since before the country began writing its legacy, the United Arab Emirates has shared a strong connection with the world of sport. From football to falconry and camel racing to caracals, UAE nationals have followed, participated in and excelled at a variety of different sports. With a passion so undeniable, it was only fitting to create a venue that would do this love of sport justice, and so Zayed Sports City was born. Built to fulfil the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE s founding father and first President, Zayed Sports City was inaugurated in January 1980 as a testament to the country s passion for sport and a platform to develop and incubate the country s promising sport talent. Zayed Sports City was a state-of-the-art facility for its time and after three decades of continuous development, it remains the premiere entertainment and sports destination in the UAE. In addition to a wide range of sporting facilities the entire site has become multi-purpose, hosting birthday parties, corporate and international sporting and entertainment events. 3 Football and Rugby Pitches HARD SURFACE AND SAND COURTS Living a healthy and fit lifestyle helps you feel great and do great things, which is why Zayed Sports City has a wide variety of facilities to keep you active. Enthusiasts of field sports, such as football, rugby, American football or Aussie rules will find 14 full and seven-a-side pitches on the best grass in the UAE. Once you play here you ll understand why national teams and clubs from the English Premier League, Bundesliga and Major League Soccer do too! The courts at Zayed Sports City are as varied as the reasons you play. If you prefer a hard court, nine tennis courts, three netball/basketball courts and two padel tennis courts await you. For a softer surface, four sand courts quickly convert between beach volleyball and beach tennis surrounded, by grassy knolls for spectators.
