BISAC Water Polo RIS Water Polo A Team 1 2 Fall 2013 Water Polo Finishes 3rd in BISAC Invitational Tournament The RIS water polo team finished up its season on October 13th by playing in the BISAC Invitational Tournament. This invitational tournament was comprised of 6 teams from RIS, BPS, SHB and the Navy Club Team. The Varsity RIS A Team placed 3rd overall in the tournament behind #1 BPS A and #2 Navy. Scoring leader, Mickey Ponpayong lead the team with 8 goals for the tournament. School Year RIS Water Polo B Team 3 Swim Photos 4 The final game went into overtime and almost had to be resolved by penalty shots until Sophomore Jun Min Joo (3 goals overall) scored the winning goal with 3 seconds left in the period. Other producers for the A Team were: Eab (2), Nia (2), Chiang (2), Phat (1), and Team Captain Ai-Ai (1). Swim/Water Polo Photos New Swim Coaches 5 6 The RIS JV B Team took 5th overall. Aquatics Calendar Phoenix Faces The B Team was particularly remarkable for their quick grasp of the game and skill-building. Most had only been playing water polo for just over a month.

Page 6 New Swim Coaches Daniel Hindler: Junior Development Group A "Hi everyone! My name is Daniel and I am from Nova Scotia, Canada.

I have competed for Canadian Nationals for my club team back home and have also competed at Canadian Interuniversity Sport competitions for my university, McGill.

" -Coach Daniel Mao Chaiphikun: Tadpoles Group Hi, my name is Sayan Chaiphikhun Mr.Mao. I have been at RIS and RIST for the past 9 years working as a Teaching Assistant in P.E. for the aquatics units.

There are many activities to enjoy, but it is important that you do so properly and safely. It is very important that if you wish to participate in these activities, you must know how to swim.

There they learn the basic aquatic skills and drills for every stroke: Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, and Butterfly.

6 Page 6 New Swim Coaches Daniel Hindler: Junior Development Group A "Hi everyone! My name is Daniel and I am from Nova Scotia, Canada. I have been swimming competitively since I was 8 years old and am in love with the sport. I have competed for Canadian Nationals for my club team back home and have also competed at Canadian Interuniversity Sport competitions for my university, McGill. My favorite events are the 50m and 100m breaststroke. I am so excited to be a part of the coaching staff this year and can't wait to see you all at practice!" -Coach Daniel Mao Chaiphikun: Tadpoles Group Hi, my name is Sayan Chaiphikhun Mr.Mao. I have been at RIS and RIST for the past 9 years working as a Teaching Assistant in P.E. for the aquatics units. I also work as a lifeguard at the pools and teach swimming lessons after school in the Tadpole program. It is great fun to be in or near the water. There are many activities to enjoy, but it is important that you do so properly and safely. It is very important that if you wish to participate in these activities, you must know how to swim. I enjoy working with students interested in the Tadpole afterschool swim program. There they learn the basic aquatic skills and drills for every stroke: Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, and Butterfly. The swimmers experience more fun and enjoyment at the pool after completing the program. - Coach Mao Mitchell Waters: Tadpoles Group I have been doing water sports all of my life. Growing up on the beaches of New South Wales, Australia gave me an early chance to be involved in surf life saving competitions that saw me achieve many feats as an athlete. My training days were very strenuous (4 hours of swimming training 5 days per week) as my coach Mick Lord used to be the Australian Institute of Sports head coach. He pushed me to achieve what every child should have and that is confidence in the water. I have taught children how to swim as well as training them for competitions. I hold all first aid, CPR, and rescue certificates as I used to lifeguard on the beaches of Australia and all over the world before becoming a teacher. I look forward to seeing the smiles and enjoyment on the faces of children that I teach. I believe swimming should be a life long skill that everyone should learn as well as being fun at the same time." - Coach Mitch Toon Buranavit: Tadpoles Group There are many good skills in this world. Swimming is not just a game but it is also an important skill for life since you can enjoy it from when you are young until you are old. Don't fear to learn because you will learn when you believe". -Coach Toon Dan Matei: Tadpoles Group Hi! My name is Dan Matei. I started swimming when I was 6 years old and never stopped since. Last school year I stood on the side of the RIS swimming pool watching Coach Mao and Coach Toon teaching my 4 year old daughter the first "steps" in swimming and I decided to try and help this year. Over the summer I got ASCTA certified as a swimming coach and here I am ready to teach and have some fun with the little ones. Welcome Tadpoles!!!
