Texas, however, outlasted the gritty Hoosiers, 15-10, in the fifth game to foil Indiana's upset bid, 3-2 (30-22, 36-38, 30-17, 24-30, 15-10). Aside from falling in the second game 11-15, Indiana dominated Clemson in a 3-1 (15-9, 11-15, 15-5, 15-2) triumph on the Tigers homecourt. The following round, IU fell to home-standing Arkansas, 3-0 (8-15, 5-15, 4-15), in Indiana s first foray into the second round. After a ledger in 1995, the Hoosiers earned a spot in the NCAA tournament for the first time in IU lore. Indiana went on to fall to George Mason, 3-0 (8-15, 10-15, 13-15) in Fairfax, Va VOLLEYBALL

3 DEEDEE OLMSTEAD OUTSIDE HITTER H.M. VOLLEYBALL ALL-BIG TEN SELECTIONS JILL BEGGS OUTSIDE HITTER H.M. P A member of the IU volleyball squad from , DeeDee Olmstead earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors as a senior in A Cicero (Ill.) Morton East product, Olmstead led the Hoosiers in both kills (296) and block assists (82) in With 54 career block solos, she ranks sixth on Indiana s career list. Her 40 block solos as a senior in 1985 is the second-highest single-season total in school history. Against Missouri on Sept. 7, 1985, she recorded five block solos, tying her for the third-best single-match total in school history. Additionally, Olmstead s nine block assists against Northwestern on Oct. 19, 1985 tied for seventh all-time in a single match. KAREN DUNHAM OUTSIDE HITTER FIRST TEAM 1984, 86, 87 SECOND TEAM A three-year letterwinner, Jill Beggs earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors as a senior in A product of Akron (Ohio) Cuyahoga Valley High School, she ranks 14th on IU s career kills list with 932. Beggs led the Hoosiers in kills with 473 in 1988, which stands as the fifth-best single-season effort in school history. At Wisconsin on Nov. 19, 1988, she recorded 30 kills, tying her for the second-best single-match total in school history. She also holds the single-match record for attacks with 108, which she set at Iowa on Nov. 5, Additionally, Beggs posted the second-highest single-match attack total with 97 against Wisconsin on Nov. 19, JULIE GOEDDE MIDDLE BLOCKER FIRST TEAM 1987 H.M. A product of Muncie (Ind.) Burris High School, Karen Dunham began her collegiate career with a bang as she earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors in That same year, she garnered second team All-Big Ten honors. She went on to earn All-Big Ten honors from the conference office in each of her four seasons, the only volleyball player in school history to record such an achievement. Dunham ranks third on IU s career assists list with 3,925 and second with 154 career service aces. She also stands 13th with 786 career digs, 12th with 217 block assists, ninth with 46 block solos and 12th with 263 total blocks. Additionally, her 46 aces during her maiden season stands as the third-best tally by a freshman, while her nine block assists against South Carolina on Sept. 19, 1987 ties for seventh all-time and her 11 total blocks that match ties for third in a single match in school history. In 1985, she earned Asics Tiger All-America honorable mention. She also played at the U.S. Olympic Festival in 1985 and 1986 and earned Academic All-Big Ten accolades in LIZ ARMBRUSTMACHER MIDDLE BLOCKER/OUTSIDE HITTER , 88 H.M. A four-year letterwinner from , Julie Goedde led the Hoosiers in total blocks and block assists during four consecutive seasons and paced the team in block solos as a sophomore, junior and senior. She is presently the school record holder in career block solos (128) and career total blocks (521) while ranking third in career block assists (393). As a senior in 1989, the Evansville, Ind., product earned first team All-Big Ten honors and Mideast All-Region recognition. That season, Goedde recorded 94 block assists and 32 block solos. As a sophomore in 1987, she earned honorable mention All- Big Ten accolades. Her 116 block assists in 1987 stand sixth all-time in school history, while she owns fourth through sixth with her efforts in block solos. Meanwhile, her 152 total blocks in 1987 tied the all-time best tally in program lore. In 1986, she played on the East squad at the U.S. Olympic Festival. Also an excellent student, she earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition on three occasions. DIANE HOERETH OUTSIDE HITTER SECOND TEAM 1989 H.M. One of the most versatile performers in IU volleyball history, Liz Armbrustmacher s name is listed throughout the school s record book. The Evergreen (Colo.) High School product ranks fifth in school history in career kills (1,381), third in block solos (97), fifth in total blocks (417), fourth in service aces (134), fifth in block assists (320), and 10th in hitting percentage (.245). She also holds the single-season record for block solos with 45 in Following both her junior and senior seasons, she earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors. She also picked up Big Ten Player of the Week honors during her junior and senior seasons. Against Oklahoma on Sept. 12, 1986, Armbrustmacher recorded eight aces, the second-best single-match total in IU history. After playing her freshman year at Texas and her sophomore season at IUPUI, Diane Hoereth played in every match for the Hoosiers during the 1989 and 1990 campaigns. A product of Roncalli High School in Indianapolis, Hoereth paced the Hoosiers in kills as a junior and a senior, and recorded double-figure kills 50 times during her career. Despite only playing two seasons at Indiana, she holds the IU career record for most matches with 20-or-more kills (17 occasions). In addition, she holds the school record for career hitting percentage (.290). An honorable mention All-Big Ten selection as a junior, she capped her career by being named second team All-Big Ten. She earned Mideast All-Region honors twice, and garnered 1990 Academic All-Big Ten honors. She also received the Aline Robinson Mental Attitude Award VOLLEYBALL 67

4 P INDIANA HOOSIERS ALL-BIG TEN SELECTIONS JOY JORDAN SETTER H.M. JEN MAGELSSEN OUTSIDE HITTER H.M. One of the top setters in school history, Joy Jordan appeared in every match during her collegiate career from Currently fifth on Indiana s career assist list with 3,129, her total of 1,441 assists in 1990 is the third-highest single-season total in school history. A product of Mount Vernon, Iowa, she earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors in In 1988, Jordan earned second team Academic All-America honors and received first team recognition in In addition, she garnered Academic All-Big Ten accolades three times and earned the Big Ten Medal of Honor in She also won the Aline Robinson Mental Attitude Award in 1989 and the Anita Aldrich Award in ANNE EASTMAN MIDDLE BLOCKER , 94 ALL-BIG TEN Jen Magelssen helped the 1995 Hoosiers to the first NCAA tournament appearance in school history. She earned honorable mention All-Big Ten that year for her efforts. The Portage (Mich.) Northern High School product capped her career by leading IU to NCAAs in Magelssen finished her career high in IU s record books as she holds the school record for career digs (1,331) and service aces (197) and is fourth on the career kills list with 1,387. In addition, she topped 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs by the end of her junior season, becoming only the second IU player to do so. She also earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors and garnered Academic All-Big Ten honors from JULIE FLATLEY OUTSIDE HITTER FIRST TEAM 1997 H.M. One of the most highly regarded middle blockers in the history of IU volleyball, Anne Eastman earned a spot on the 12-member All-Big Ten squad as a junior and senior. She also garnered Academic All-Big Ten honors from and the Big Ten Medal of Honor following her junior campaign. One of 11 Hoosiers to record more than 1,000 kills in a career (1,252), this Chicago Mother McAuley High School product is second on IU s single-season kills list with 539. Meanwhile, her career kill total puts her ninth all-time in school history. She also ranks second on IU s career block solo list (102), sixth in career block assists (287), ninth in hitting percentage (.250) and 12th in career digs (792). Additionally, Eastman holds the school record for 20-plus-kill matches in a single season with 12. Following her collegiate career, Eastman played in the U.S. Olympic Festival. She also played professionally in Switzerland in addition to seeing action in the United States Professional Volleyball League. MICHELLE MCELROY SETTER H.M. Julie Flatley, a St. Louis, Mo. (Cor Jesu Academy), product left her mark on the IU volleyball program early in her career as she led the Hoosiers to their first NCAA tournament appearance during her sophomore season. She capped her stellar 1995 campaign by earning first team All-Big Ten honors. Playing both right and left-side hitter positions, Flatley tallied more kills in a single season than any IU sophomore in history. For the season, she turned in a team-leading.303 attack percentage to go along with 402 kills. Flatley s impressive play continued throughout her career as she made headlines again as a senior when she garnered AVCA All-District II team honors as well as honorable mention All-Big Ten accolades. That same year, she became the first Indiana volleyball player to earn National Player of the Week honors from the AVCA. Flatley picked up Varsity Club Scholar Athlete recognition in 1996 and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors as a junior and senior. Additionally, Flatley s 1,283 career kills ranks her seventh all-time in Hoosier history. RYANN CONNORS OUTSIDE HITTER FIRST TEAM 1999 H.M. One of the top setters in the history of Indiana University volleyball, Michelle McElroy holds the school record for career assists with 4,294. A product of Edgewood, Ky. (Notre Dame Academy), she earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors in 1995 as she helped the Hoosiers to their initial appearance in the NCAA tournament. Most impressively, her setting skills helped the Hoosiers make a drastic turnaround in 1995, as just three years earlier Indiana closed the season with a 6-23 ledger. The Hoosiers battled George Mason in the first round of the NCAA tournament, but fell 3-0 (8-15, 10-15, 13-15). That same season, she helped the Hoosiers to a overall record, including a 12-8 record in the rugged Big Ten Conference. McElroy earned Academic All-Big Ten accolades in 1994 and The school s third-highest kill artist with 1,533 career putaways, Ryann Connors helped the Hoosiers to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances in 1998 and 1999, including the school s first tournament victory, a win over No. 24 Northern Iowa, as a junior in In 1998, Connors earned AVCA National Player of the Week honors and went on to pick up first team All-Big Ten accolades. That season, the Oak Lawn (Ill.) Mother McAuley High School product led the 1998 squad in kills (482). As a senior, Connors earned honorable mention All-Big Ten accolades. She also is the school record holder for most matches in a career with double-figure kills (78). Additionally, Connors 105 service aces ranks 10th in school history, while her 482 kills in 1998 stand as the fourth-highest tally in a single season for the Hoosiers VOLLEYBALL

5 AMANDA WELTER OUTSIDE HITTER FIRST TEAM VOLLEYBALL ALL-BIG TEN SELECTIONS KATIE POLLOM MIDDLE BLOCKER , 04 H.M. P A first team All-Big Ten selection as a senior in 2000, the outside hitter from Cincinnati, Ohio (McAuley H.S.), finished her career helping the Hoosiers to NCAA tournament appearances during her sophomore and junior campaigns. In 1998, the Hoosiers secured the school s initial NCAA tournament win with an upset victory over No. 24 Northern Iowa. In addition, Welter found her name listed throughout the Hoosier record books as she currently is second in career hitting percentage (.282), ninth in career block assists (235) and 10th in total blocks (275). In addition, Welter owns the distinction of being the program s only player to be named Big Ten Player of the Week on three different occasions. CHRISTINA ARCHIBALD OUTSIDE HITTER H.M. A Belleville (Ill.) Township West product, the talented outside hitter exploded onto the scene as a sophomore in 2002 and garnered both Big Ten Player of the Week (Sept. 23) and honorable mention All-Big Ten honors. During her sophomore season, Archibald set the school s single-season record for kills (555) and moved into 11th place on the single-season digs list (317). In 2004, Archibald eclipsed Melissa Brewer s kill mark with 1,808 career putaways, while also placing fourth on the dig chart with 1,028. Additionally, Archibald moved up to sixth with 116 service aces, eighth with 248 block assists and tied for eighth with 276 total blocks. MELISSA BREWER MIDDLE BLOCKER FIRST TEAM 2003 H.M. A native of Bloomington, Ind., Melissa Brewer solidified her place in the IU record books during her Hoosier career. Brewer completed her career as Indiana s all-time leader in kills (1,547), before Christina Archibald broke her record with 1,808 putaways, and block assists (469), while ranking second in total blocks (516) and eighth in block solos (47). On her way to being named a first team All-Big Ten selection in 2002, she also etched her name into the single-season record books in numerous categories, including second in hitting percentage (.312), third in kills (486), fourth in block assists (132) and fifth in total blocks (142). During her 2003 season, in which she earned honorable mention All-Big Ten, Brewer moved into third place on the single-season list for hitting percentage (.311), fifth in block assists (128) and sixth in total blocks (138). In addition, Brewer received Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2001, 2002 and 2003 and Verizon Academic All-Region honors in both 2001 and During her career at IU, Katie Pollom made her mark as one of the school s most prolific middle blockers. In 2002, the Cathedral (Ind.) High School product set the single-season school record in block assists (139) and total blocks (153) en route to being named an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection. Mandy Eberle would go on to break both of those marks with 140 block assists and 155 total blocks in In 2004, Pollom earned her second honorable mention accolade from the conference as well as picked up a pair of singleseason school entries with fourth in hitting percentage (306) and eighth in kills (447). Additionally, her hitting percentage of.306 made her only the fifth Hoosier to close out a season with over.300 hitting. Meanwhile, Pollom became just the 11th member of the Indiana volleyball 1,000 kills club against Texas-Arlington on Sept. 11, For her career, Pollom improved to fourth in block assists (379), block solos (63) and total blocks (442), while jumping into sixth with 1,350 kills and.259 hitting percentage. She also received Academic All-Big Ten recognition following the 2001, 2002 and 2003 seasons.
