6 HEAD COACH JEFF TAMBRONI Eighth Year Hobart '92 Career Record: (.668) / 17 Seasons At Penn State: (.577) / Seven Season 2009 USILA DI COACH OF THE YEAR 2011 CAA CO-COACH OF THE YEAR 2013 CAA COACH OF THE YEAR 2014 U.S. MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM ASSISTANT COACH HALL OF FAME (CLASS OF '18) Jeff Tambroni, who is in his eighth season at Penn State in 2018, has a record, and a record at the helm of the Nittany Lion squad. Tambroni has led the Nittany Lions to the NCAA Tournament in 2013 and Tambroni, one of the sport s most decorated coaches, enters the 2018 season ninth among all active Division I coaches in career win percentage. Tambroni led the Nittany Lions to a 12-4 record, just the seventh doubledigit win season, and only the second in the last 20 seasons (2013, 2017). Penn State set a program record, opening the season with a 10-0 record for the best start in school history. The 10th win highlighted the streak as Penn State took down No. 5 Ohio State, 9-4, to earn just the eighth victory in program history over a top-five team. Penn State also earned their first winning record in Big Ten play, going 3-2. Tambroni saw three earn USILA All-America honorable mention honors, while Nick Aponte earned a USILA Scholar All-America honor. Penn State s 2013 campaign saw Tambroni lead Penn State to one of the greatest seasons in program history while celebrating its 100th season. The Nittany Lions set a record for wins (12) and earned the program s first outright regular season conference title by sweeping the CAA with a 6-0 record. PSU rattled off ten-straight wins from March through May to earn the school s third NCAA bid and first chance to host an NCAA tournament game. The program s 12 wins in 2017 tied the record. There have been four USILA Scholar All-America honorees under Tambroni and 14 USILA All-Americans during his time at Penn State. Tambroni was named USILA Division I Coach of the Year following the 2009 season while at Cornell and was tabbed the 2007 and 2009 Field Turf/NCAA Division I Coach of the Year. Tambroni was also the 2004 and 2009 Ithaca Journal Male Coach of the Year and a three-time National Coach of the Week. While at Cornell, Tambroni became the 10th-fastest coach to reach the 100- win mark when he accomplished the feat in his 134th career game in March During his tenure, his players earned 37 first-team All-Ivy honors, including five Ivy League awards, and three conference Rookie of the Year selections. Also, 39 players garnered All-America recognition. A 1992 graduate, Tambroni earned his bachelor s degree in American studies. He claimed first-team All-America honors as a senior and was twice named a second-team All-American ( ). The MVP of the 1990 NCAA title game, Tambroni helped lead the team to back-to-back NCAA championships ( ) and left Hobart tied for seventh on the school s all-time scoring list with 202 points, and currently sits in eighth. Before embarking upon his collegiate coaching career, Tambroni coached the Heaton Mersey Lacrosse Club of the English Lacrosse Union for one year and served as a visiting coach for the Czech-American Lacrosse Foundation in Prague in the summer of Tambroni and his wife, Michelle, have three daughters, Carissa, Madison, and Ella. Michelle played field hockey at Penn State from and earned All-America honors as a senior. QUAD CORE OF CAPTAINS The 2018 Nittany Lion squad will be led by senior middies Ryan Keenan, Tanner Peck, and Tripp Traynor, and redshirt junior defender Mike Aronow. When asked about their leadership skills, Head Coach Jeff Tambroni mentioned how each was different, and together they provided a well-rounded leadership core. The quartet has helped the Nittany Lions program come from a 5-9 record in their freshman season to an improved 12-4, and a No. 1 ranking in the national poll in their junior year, and will look to build upon in #BRICKSQUAD MENTALITY The blue-collar work ethic of Penn State men s lacrosse has been a mainstay under Coach Jeff Tambroni, and even using a brick to symbolize what that means has been in play for a few years, but following the 2017 season, the now-graduated seniors of 2017 gave Tambroni a brick with the engraving Leave it better than you found it... Class of We wanted an identity piece, Tambroni said. We wanted our program to think about a symbol more visually instead of just conversations with our guys about what we want it to look like. Also, there is a second brick that is passed around by the team to the player with the most brick mentality every week. The player who holds the brick chooses who deserves the brick the following week, and they pass the actual brick on to the next deserving player. PRESEASON RECOGNITION The Trio of juniors Chris Sabia and Grant Ament and sophomore Gerard Arceri were named to the USILA Preseason DI Player of the Year Watch List. They were also named as Penn State s Big Ten Players to Watch. Sabia was named an Inside Lacrosse Preseason Second Team All-America honoree, while Arceri was named to the Third Team and Amernt earned Honorable Mention. ARCERI NAMED BIG TEN SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK X4 (2/20, 2/27, 3/6, 3/13) Penn State men s lacrosse sophomore Gerard Arceri earned his fourth consecutive Big Ten Specialist of the Week honor. Against Furman, Arceri won face-off attempts, with an impressive.905 winning percentage. He also scooped up a career-high 18 ground balls in the affair, while scoring a goal as well. His effort helped Penn State to a 16-5 victory. Against Cornell, Arceri won 11 of 19 attempts, bringing his weekly winning percentage to.750. He also added 10 ground balls against Big Red. Arceri was named the Big Ten Specialist of the Week for the first time this season, as well as, being named to the USILA Team of the Week for his dominating performance against Stony Brook. Arceri was a key cog in the Nittany Lions offense as he went on the faceoff, including a commanding 9 of 10 in the opening quarter that led to three goals in the first 1:03 of the game. The sophomore from St. James, N.Y., finished the game with a career-high 16 ground balls, and three points, scoring two goals and dishing out his first career assist. This was Arceri s first career multi-goal game and he finished with a season-high.741 faceoff winning percentage. He then picked up his second-straight Big Ten honor after going on the face, with 10 GBs and a goal against Robert Morris. His thrid came after going 18-20, for a season-high.900-winning percentage. He scooped up a game-best 13 ground balls and scored a goal as well in the 10-7 win over No. 13 Penn. O KEEFE NAMED B1G OFFENISVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK (2/13) Mac O Keefe was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Hobart, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. O Keefe scored a team-best five goals against Hobart, adding an assist as well. The attackman added four ground balls and one caused turnover. He scored three of Penn State s goals during a crucial second half 8-1 run that gave the Nittany Lions the lead and the win after being down 7-6 at half. His assist came during that run as well. KEENAN, KELLY EARN B1G MLAX WEEKLY HONORS (2/6) Following the first week of action, the Penn State men s lacrosse team saw senior midfielder Ryan Keenan and freshman midfielder Jack Kelly earn Big Ten weekly honors as Keenan was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and Kelly took home the Freshman of the Week honor, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Keenan, who was named a member of the USILA DI Team of the Week on Monday, earns his first career honor from the Big Ten after putting together a career performance against Villanova. The middie scored a career-high five goals and added two assists on the way to a personal best seven points. He also scooped up five ground balls in the game. His five goals put him in a four-way tie atop the NCAA goals per game leaderboard. Kelly took home the Freshman of the Week honor after scoring two goals in his first collegiate game. His two goals came on his only two shots of the game. He also added two ground balls and a caused turnover.

7 LAST TIME OUT Penn State held a 6-3 lead into the opening of the final quarter of action, but a 6-1 final quarter in favor of Cornell was the difference in the game, as Big Red took the contest, 9-7. Junior Kevin Hill has a strong offensive performance, scoring three goals and adding an assist to lead the Nittany Lions in point on the afternoon. Fellow junior Nick Spillane added three points as he tallied two assists and a goal. Sophomore Dylan Foulds recorded both a goal and an assist, while senior Tanner Peck added his first goal of the season, and freshman John Nostrant added his second of the season in as many games. Junior Matt Donnelly and sophomore Mac O Keefe both added assists to their stat line. Sophomore goalie Colby Kneese made some timely saves throughout the game, many in man-down situations. Kneese finished with 13 saves and three ground balls. NITTANY LIONS BUILDING IN DEPTH The Nittany Lions present a menacing starting lineup on both attack and defense that can cause problems for many teams. Beyond their starters though, there are a lot of question marks on both sides of the ball at an early point in the season. The challenge for Tambroni and his staff is motivating the rest of the team to step up and make meaningful contributions. NITTANY LIONS SHIFTING FOCUS INWARD Every Monday the coaching staff meets with the team to reflect on their individual performances from the weekend. During this week s session, the Nittany Lions were eager to add to the conversation and bring focus to the areas they feel they need to improve upon. There were several decent plays that were made throughout the course of the game, we just didn t connect enough of them, Penn State head coach Jeff Tambroni said. It was tough. When we talked to our guys about things that needed to be worked on, plenty of hands went up, so it was nice to see our guys have a decent understanding about what needs to be done this week. Although the team fell short executing plays successfully throughout the game, one positive to emerge was their consistent level of hard work. Throughout several momentum shifts, the Nittany Lions refused to give up or deviate from their style of blue-collar lacrosse. AMENT NAMED TO TAWAARATON WATCHLIST Junior Grant Ament was named to the first edition of the Tawaraaton Watchlist. The list includes the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlights the early contenders for the 2018 Tewaaraton Award. Ament, who has yet to play a game in the 2018 season, recorded 30 goals and 30 assists in 2017 to lead the Nittany Lions. Inevitably, every student-athlete wants to play, everybody wants to contribute on game day because they work so hard, Tambroni said. The on us falls on Jeff Tambroni. It s my job to make sure there s a grander purpose than coming in here and playing. There s got to be a reason why these guys come here. Although the message starts with the coaching staff, it is then on the team to uphold it in the locker room and on the field.

20 PANZER STADIUM PROJECT The Penn State Board of Trustees Committee on Finance, Business and Capital Planning recommended approval of the design and an authorization to construct a new lacrosse stadium at the existing lacrosse field adjacent to the Multi-sport Facility on the University Park campus on July 20, The team of Moody Nolan of Columbus, Ohio, and APArchitects, LLC of Boalsburg designed the project. PJ Dick of Pittsburgh will construct the estimated $8.4 million project. In May 2017, Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics announced $3.55 million in gifts for a new lacrosse stadium on the University Park campus. Ken Panzer, a 1982 Penn State graduate, and his long-time business partner at Douglas Emmett, Jordan Kaplan, committed a gift of $3.55 million to launch construction that will transform the current field into a world-class stadium. A former co-captain of the Penn State men s lacrosse team, Panzer has a long-standing history of giving to the Nittany Lions program. Additional Penn State lacrosse alumni and donors made gifts for the venue totaling $2 million, bringing the philanthropy total for the project to $5.6 million. The addition of men s and women s lacrosse to the Big Ten Conference in 2015 has shifted the landscape of Division I lacrosse, elevating the Penn State lacrosse programs competitiveness and national exposure. Both of the men s and women s programs, led by head coaches Jeff Tambroni and Missy Doherty, respectively, were ranked in the Top 10 nationally in the 2017 season and participated in their NCAA championships, with the women s team advancing to the national semifinals for the second consecutive year. Panzer Stadium will be one of the top lacrosse facilities in the nation and will enable Penn State to host a variety of events, including the Big Ten Tournament and NCAA Championship preliminary rounds and youth lacrosse events. Panzer Stadium, which will be constructed in the same location as the Penn State Lacrosse Field, will include the following features and capabilities: Expanded stadium-style seating for up to 1,300, significantly growing the permanent seating capacity and options available to fans. Greater comfort and convenience for fans with permanent concessions, more accessible bathrooms and a ticket office. A press box above the new seating with full broadcasting capabilities for television and radio facilitating coverage on the Big Ten Network and ESPN. A multi-purpose room overlooking the field to be used for a variety of lacrosse-related events. Panzer Stadium will help usher in Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics 20-year Facilities Master Plan, announced this past spring, and will build new, as well as revitalize, selected facilities across the University Park campus.
