2 LUMFC Old Boys May 2011 Newsletter With a total turnout of 33 including 6 current 1 st team players old boys is still very much alive and kicking. There was the usual congregation starting in the Willowbank on the Friday at 7pm with reports of bad dancing, poor chat up lines and even worse dress sense, all culminating with a great performance what is the Blue Angel. Football kicked off at 1pm at Wyncote, with the old boys starting particularly poorly by going down 1-0 after around 30 seconds and some terrible defending. Two more followed shortly until Dobson saw sense who was currently upfront, headed back to carry out his marshalling role to stem the flow. I do have to highlight some truly awful shooting by the old boys who missed two penalties ( Cowles & Barrett) and numerous one on ones. That seemed to set the bar and after a painful 90 minutes, yes a full 90! The game ended a 4-0 thrashing. The current team handed the OB s an olive branch by way of a friendly penalty shoot out, but even that did not help with David Thorncorft stepping up to miss the final penalty and seal our fate 5-4. All in all it was a lovely game, and sun was shining down on us at Wyncote with a lot of laughs thrown in. The dinner this year was at the Adelphi Hotel, and most people young and old were impressed with the food, a change from the normal profiterole dessert was a pleasant surprise. Stuart Wade kicked off the speeches followed by Richard Gleave ( CC) who had the pleasure of announcing a good season for all 4 teams, with the 1 st team winning the league on the last game of the season against Liverpool John Moores. The 2 s (won the league)and 3s (finished second in that same league). The 4th team finished 3rd after promotion last season. The club is still as big as ever culmination in a tour to Lloret De Mar and 42 lads going along. Once the dinner was over, a select few ventured next door to X in The City for some dancing lessons, followed by a hectic Dom s 45 minutes and pints of an unknown blue substance. Needless to say it did the trick and a double header in the Raz followed. With plenty of singing in the VIP room and an incessant berating of a group of around 8 medics who eventually left a little scared. Now victorious the drinking continued in to the early hours with the next memory being a phone call from the Greenpark Hotel receptionist, politely asking us to pack up and get out. A top weekend as usual and this looks like a well needed kickstart for all to continue this great tradition.

Also please join the Facebook page LUMFC Old Boys Suggestions: There has been a lot of talk of moving the Old Boys weekend, to the end of September, so it is away from the wedding season and not during the exam period also. What do we think? Would anyone like to be a part of or help set up an old boys committee? As this network could and should be more than just a boozy weekend. There is much more potential to help each other in friendship and in business networks. Would the Old Boys be prepared to pay an annual fee of 20pa. This could help produce a newsletter, or pay for a website, or just simply buy a new a kit for the current team each year?
