The display featured four cars, all designed by Paul Bracq, and Club Members were able to take advantage of reduced price tickets. The 600 on the stand was selected by the event organisers as the Best Club Car. 2 Techno-Classica, Essen, Germany March G-Wagens, old and new, were at the centre of the Mercedes-Benz stand at this year s Techno-Classica. There was also display of Grand Prix cars. The Classic Partners appointed dealers who offer specialist services for classic cars had very prominent displays. This W cabriolet conversion was amongst the cars for sale. The Mercedes-Benz Club once again had a trip to this event, the largest indoor classic car show in the world. Members enjoyed luxury coach travel, comfortable hotel accommodation and the company of like-minded enthusiasts. R129 SL meeting at Mercedes-Benz Cheshire Oaks Saturday April 28 This was an opportunity for Club Members to meet at the new Mercedes-Benz dealership at Cheshire Oaks to enjoy breakfast and a guided tour of this state-of-theart facility. 3 The Donington Historic Festival Friday-Sunday May 4-6 The track action at Donington included pre-war cars s sports cars......and later saloons. The Donington Historic Festival is firmly established as a major fixture on the international historic racing calendar. At this year's event the One of the paradors Members stayed in. Mercedes-Benz Club displayed some of its cars in the heart of the infield and all Members benefited from reduced price tickets. Spanish Tour May The Club s international rally for 2018 was on on the peaceful and picturesque roads of the Pyrenees. The programme included visits to San Sebastian and Barcelona and there was luxury accommodation and great food and wine throughout. This was a chance to enjoy the quiet and breathtaking rural roads of Spain......and some of the sights of its cities.

4 The Letchworth Garden City Classic and Vintage Car Club invited the Mercedes-Benz Club to hold this event at its picnic in Hertfordshire. Amongst the SECs (1980s top of the range coupés) present were several once owned by Formula One World Champions. Mercedes Mark of Mercedes Classic Parts sponsored the prizes and helped with the judging. He was also on hand to answer questions about SECs. In total 27 SECs were displayed. National Concours, Milton Keynes June 16 This R SL was the overall winner in Mercedes-Benz always display their latest models at this event and offer Club Members test drives.

5 The Club s premier concours competition was again held at Mercedes-Benz UK s headquarters in Located in Milton Keynes, this venue provides hard-standing for all the cars entered plus a wide range of other facilities that make for a great day out. As with all Club events, this one was open to all Members, with any model of Mercedes, to attend. The competitive classes included some for Enthusiasts ie everyday cars owned by people who might not have entered a concours before and there were displays of Mercedes latest models plus the chance to take test drives. Some of the cars in the Enthusiasts Class in Coupé Day and W220 S-Class event, at RAF Museum, Cosford Sunday July 1 Here and above some of the cars at last year s Coupé Day. W220 S-Class. The Club s Coupé Day will again to be held at Cosford, this event features all models of Mercedes coupé from the 1950s to the present day, including CLSs. This year the coupés will also be joined by the first dedicated meeting of the W220 S-Class Model Register celebrating the 20th anniversary of the launch of this model. As with all Club events, this one is open to all Members, with any model of Mercedes, to attend.

6 National Weekend, SL Day and now SLK Day, Nottingham July 6-8 The Club s SL Day always attracts a breath-taking display. The Mercedes-Benz Club s biggest event, its National Weekend and SL Day, will this year be centred on Nottingham. Its base will be the four-star Nottingham Belfry Hotel and the programme will include a tour of the historic city, a road run around the local countryside, with an option of seeing the National Space Centre in Leicester, and a black-tie dinner. Some very special guests from an infamous Torquay hotel will be assisting with this. On the Sunday the SL Day will be at Wollaton Hall and the SLs present Dinner will be served by the Faulty Towers team. This year s National Weekend will be based at the Nottingham Belfry Hotel. will include some W113 Pagodas from Germany. All SL models will be attending, and this event will also incorporate the Club s SLK Day, featuring all versions of Mercedes smaller sports car. There will be prizes for the best cars and, as with every Club event, all Mercedes will be welcome and there will be a display area for non-sls. To take part in this premier event join the Club now. The SL Day will be at Wollaton Hall. The 2018 SLK Day will now be part of this weekend.

7 W123 Day, World of Wedgwood July 15 W123s, the mid-size saloons, coupés and estate cars from the 1970s and 80s, have been popular in the Club for many years. Their 2018 gathering will be at the Wedgwood factory and museum in the heart of the country which has excellent facilities for such an event. Estates......and coupés at a previous W123 Day. Silverstone Classic July The Mercedes-Benz Club will, as usual, have a prominent stand at the Silverstone Classic. If you like historic motor racing and all the other events taking place over the weekend, including 10,000 classic cars on display and live music, join the Club to get discounted tickets. It is hoped that there will be parade laps in celebration of the /8 (W114 and W115) models 50th year. The Club will also be marking 20 years of the Smart. Part of the Club stand at Silverstone in 2017.

8 E-Class Day, Burghley House August 19 The E-Class has been the mainstay of the Mercedes-Benz executive car range for well over 20 years. The Club will be celebrating this series in a special day at Burghley House near Peterborough. All models of E-Class and all Members......will be welcome at this spectacular venue. All Members and their cars will be welcome, but it will be the W210, W211, W212 and W213s that will be display parked in front of the house and daily drivers will be just as welcome as immaculate examples. Join the Club to take part. R129 SL Model Register Event, Sywell Aerodrome September 9 The Aviator Hotel at Sywell Aerodrome......a suitably stylish setting for R129 SLs. This event, featuring SLs from the 1990s, will be at Sywell, near Northampton so easy to reach from much of the country. These SLs have become classics in short order and this will be an opportunity some of the best examples. The programme will include guided tours of the aerodrome s museum.

9 W124 Event, Leyburn, North Yorkshire Sunday September 16 After three years in the West Midlands, the Club s 2018 W124 event is moving to North Yorkshire. It will see a full range of these young-timer classics from the 1980s and 90s displayed at Tennants Auction House, where the facilities include a café and restaurant. Some highlights from 2017 Car of the day at the 2017 W124 Day was this E36 AMG coupé. AMG 50th anniversary celebration and SEC Day June 4 This event, at Mercedes-Benz World, Brooklands, Surrey, was something not to be missed for anyone with an interest in AMG or the iconic S-Class coupés of the 1980s and 90s. SECs lined up on the Campbell Circuit outside MB World.

AMG, the special tuning wing of Mercedes-Benz, was 50 years old in 2017 and to celebrate the Club organised a gathering of a very special collection of AMG-powered cars. On the same day the SEC Day took place and included in the cars displayed was Nigel Mansell s 560SEC and Ayrton Senna s 500SEC. Full use was made of all the facilities at Mercedes-Benz World, including the handling circuit on which Club Members enjoyed parade laps and AMG driving experiences. S-Class Fest 2017, Donington Racing Car Museum July 30 There was a wide range of S-Classes at this event... Once again the S-Class Fest provided a chance to see virtually every type of S-Class Mercedes-Benz s top of the range and there were technical experts on hand to solve problems and provide valuations. In addition the Donington museum offered the opportunity to see the largest collection of racing cars in the world plus World War Two vehicles and memorabilia....held at the Donington Racing Car Museum.

11 Southern Ireland Rally September A chance to discover the delights of rural Ireland. The Mercedes-Benz Club has a significant presence in Ireland and this event was an opportunity for Members to enjoy the quiet, picturesque and sometimes challenging roads on the south coast with the benefit of expert local knowledge. Classic Motor Show November The Club stand at the NEC......it included the very popular Members Café. The Club s stand at the Classic Motor Show attracted many Members, who were able to buy reduced price tickets for this huge annual event at the NEC. Not only that, they could relax with free hot drinks and biscuits in the Members Café around 1,200 took advantage of this. The cars on display ranged from a SL Gullwing through representatives from each decade up to the 1990s. The Gullwing and ex-george Harrison 500SEL AMG were put to good use in raising money for charity in exchange for photo opportunities a total of nearly 800 was collected for the RNLI and Huntingtons Disease Association.

12 The Club Shop was on hand as was a strong Technical Team who were kept busy all weekend answering Members queries. 151 new Members joined the Club at this event. 190E 2.6 adjacent to the Technical Team s desk and elevated for inspection. The 300SL Gullwing on display, as always, attracted a lot of attention and charitable donations. The ex-george Harrison 500SEL AMG. Not just national events The Club s Regional Officers run events across the country throughout the year. A full list of Club events can be found on this site if you click on the Events button. You will find that, as well as the national events, there are over 100 regional shows, visits, drives and social occasions across the UK and the whole of Ireland plus 20 regular pub meetings. The newest region is Milan in Italy. 13 The latest Club Gazette Touring Europe and the UK in an R SL. The July Mercedes-Benz Club Gazette includes a report of the R129 SL Model Register meeting, the story of a Member s tour through Holland, Belgium and France... to get to the English West Country and a report on the Techno-Classica show held in Essen earlier in the year. 14 Adam Morgan s A-Class flying at Thruxton. There is also news of how Adam Morgan s win at Thruxton in his A- Class took him to the top of the British Touring Car Championship and the low down on an AMG GT4 that is being prepared in the UK for competition in Europe and the USA. A Member recounts how, with lots of help from fellow Members, he came to buy a CL500 for his wife and there are the usual articles on F1, the Club Archives, from the Club s Honorary President, news from the regions and the first column from the new Chairman, Rosemarie Maslin. How to find a good CL500. On-line technical information Since November 2009 Club Members have had free access to the Mercedes-Benz Electronic Parts Catalogue (EPC). This enables you to identify the part number for any component from all models since 1945 it is usually only made available to garages, at a cost. Instructions on how to use this facility were given in the December Mercedes-Benz Club Gazette and are included in the Members pages of this website. Now the Mercedes-Benz Workshop Information System (WIS) has been made available to Club Members. This gives full service and repair instructions, including wiring diagrams, for all models from the 1990s onwards.

15 DISCOUNTED INSURANCE The Club has a panel of approved insurers that offer a full range of policies, all with discounted rates for Members. If you need technical help All the technical articles and tips that have appeared in the Mercedes-Benz Club Gazette are now available to Members from the Members pages of this website. If you can t find the answer there, contact details for the Club s Technical Advisers, Model Register Captains and its Good Garage Guide of Members recommendations are all listed in the Club Directory supplied to new Members. Archive developments The Brooklands Control Tower. The Club s Archive, which contains an amazing collection of brochures, technical literature, price lists and photos, as well as the Club s history, is now well established in offices in the old Control Tower at Brooklands. The work of digitising the Archive contents is well in hand and a website presenting it is now on-line. Club Membership brings you access to all this fascinating material.
