The display featured four cars, all designed by Paul Bracq, and Club Members were able to take advantage of reduced price tickets. The 600 on the stand was selected by the event organisers as the Best Club Car. 2 Techno-Classica, Essen, Germany March Techno-Classica features thousands of classics.....and some of the latest cars. In 2018 the Mercedes-Benz Club will once again be making its pilgrimage to the largest indoor classic car show in the world. Members enjoy luxury coach travel, comfortable hotel accommodation and the company of like-minded enthusiasts. There are restorers stands, club displays and halls full of trade stands. R129 SL meeting at Mercedes-Benz Cheshire Oaks Saturday April 28 This will be an opportunity for R129 owners to meet at the new Mercedes-Benz dealership at Cheshire Oaks. Members will enjoy breakfast and a guided tour of this state-of-the-art facility. To take part join the Club. Mercedes-Benz Cheshire Oaks.

3 The Donington Historic Festival Friday-Sunday May 4-6 The track action at Donington will include pre-war cars......and later saloons s sports cars... The Donington Historic Festival is firmly established as a major fixture on the international historic racing. The Mercedes-Benz Club will be displaying Members One of the paradors Members will be staying in. cars in the heart of the infield and all Members will be able to benefit from reduced price tickets and might get the chance to drive their cars on the track in parade laps. Spanish Tour May The Club s international rally in 2018 will be on the peaceful and picturesque roads of the Pyrenees. The programme will include visits to San Sebastian and Barcelona and there will be luxury accommodation and great food and wine throughout. This will be a chance to enjoy the quiet and breathtaking rural roads of Spain......and some of the sights of its cities.

4 The Letchworth Garden City Classic and Vintage Car Club has invited the Mercedes-Benz Club to hold this event at their picnic in Hertfordshire. Amongst the SECs (1980s top of the range coupés) to displayed will be several once owned by Formula One World Champions. Mercedes Mark of Mercedes Classic Parts is sponsoring the prizes and will be helping with the judging. He will also be on hand to answer questions about SECs. It s hoped that this event will beat the record for the most SECs in one place, which was 32 at Mercedes- Benz World in Everyone is welcome to come along, but if you have an SEC that should feature in the display join the Club and enter it. SEC Day, Letchworth June 2 The cars attending the SEC Day will include the ex-ayrton Senna 500SEC (photo by Richard Parramint). National Concours, Milton Keynes June 16 This R SL was the overall winner in 2017.

5 The Club s premier concours competition will again be held at Mercedes-Benz UK s headquarters in Located in Milton Keynes, this venue provides hard-standing for all the cars entered plus a wide range of other facilities that make for a great day out. The competitive classes include some for Enthusiasts ie everyday cars owned by people who might not have entered a concours before and there are displays of Mercedes latest models plus the chance to take test drives. Mercedes-Benz always display their latest models at this event and offer Club Members test drives. Some of the cars in the Enthusiasts Class in Coupé Day at RAF Museum, Cosford Sunday July 1 O nce again to be held at Cosford, this event features all models of Mercedes coupé from the 1950s to the present day, including CLSs. As with all Club events, the Coupé Day is open to all Members with any model of Mercedes but these cars will be parked adjacent to the coupé area. Some of the cars at last year s Coupé Day.

6 National Weekend and SL Day, Nottingham July 6-8 The Club SL Day always attracts a breath-taking display. The Mercedes-Benz Club s biggest event, its National Weekend and SL Day, will this year be centred on Nottingham. Its base will be the four-star Nottingham Belfry Hotel and the programme will include a tour of the historic city, a road run around the local countryside, with an option of seeing the National Space Centre in Leicester, and a black-tie dinner. Some very special guests from an infamous Torquay hotel will be assisting with this. On the Sunday the SL Day will be at Wollaton Hall and the SLs present will include some W113 Pagodas from Germany. All SL models will be attending, together with all types of SLK, and prizes will be awarded for the best cars. As with every Club event all Mercedes will be welcome and there will be a display area for non-sls. To take part in this premier event join the Club now. This year s National Weekend will be based at the Nottingham Belfry Hotel. Dinner will be served by the Faulty Towers team. The SL Day will be at Wollaton Hall.

7 Silverstone Classic July The Mercedes-Benz Club will, as usual, have a prominent stand at the Silverstone Classic. If you like historic motor racing and all the other events taking place over the weekend, including 10,000 classic cars on display and live music, join the Club to get discounted tickets. It is hoped that there will be parade laps in celebration of the /8 (W114 and W115) models 50th year. The Club will also be marking 20 years of the Smart. Part of the Club stand at Silverstone in W124 Event, Leyburn, North Yorkshire Sunday September 16 After three years in the West Midlands, the Club s 2018 W124 event is moving to North Yorkshire. It will see a full range of these young-timer classics from the 1980s and 90s displayed at Tennants Auction House, where the facilities include a café and restaurant. 8 Some highlights from 2017 SLK Day, British Motor Museum May 21 In 2017 the SLK Day was at the British Motor Museum in Gaydon, Warwickshire, with all its usual activities, including plenty of input from the Club s Technical Team three of whom are SLK owners. The Club s SLK Day always attracts a huge turn-out of these popular sports cars. The programme includes technical advice on looking after these models. AMG 50th anniversary celebration and SEC Day June 4 This event, at Mercedes-Benz World, Brooklands, Surrey, was something not to be missed for anyone with an interest in AMG or the iconic S-Class coupés of the 1980s and 90s. SECs lined up on the Campbell Circuit outside MB World.

AMG, the special tuning wing of Mercedes-Benz, was 50 years old in 2017 and to celebrate the Club organised a gathering of a very special collection of AMG-powered cars. On the same day the SEC Day took place and included in the cars displayed was Nigel Mansell s 560SEC and Ayrton Senna s 500SEC. Full use was made of all the facilities at Mercedes- Benz World, including the handling circuit on which Club Members enjoyed parade laps and AMG driving experiences. S-Class Fest 2017, Donington Racing Car Museum July 30 There was a wide range of S-Classes at this event...

10 ...held at the Donington Racing Car Museum. Once again the S-Class Fest provided a chance to see virtually every type of S-Class Mercedes-Benz s top of the range and there were technical experts on hand to solve problems and provide valuations. In addition the Donington museum offered the opportunity to see the largest collection of racing cars in the world plus World War Two vehicles and memorabilia. Southern Ireland Rally September A chance to discover the delights of rural Ireland. T he Mercedes-Benz Club has a significant presence in Ireland and this event was an opportunity for Members to enjoy the quiet, picturesque and sometimes challenging roads on the south coast with the benefit of expert local knowledge.

11 Classic Motor Show November The Club stand at the NEC... The Club s stand at the Classic Motor Show attracted many Members, who were able to buy reduced price tickets for this huge annual event at the NEC. Not only that, they could relax with free hot drinks and biscuits in the Members Café around 1,200 took advantage of this. The cars on display ranged from a SL Gullwing through representatives from each decade up to the 1990s. The Gullwing and ex-george Harrison 500SEL AMG were put to good use in raising money for charity in exchange for photo opportunities a total of nearly 800 was collected for the RNLI and Huntingtons Disease Association. The Club Shop was on hand as was a strong Technical Team who were kept busy all weekend answering Members queries. 151 new Members joined the Club at this event....it included the very popular Members Café. 190E 2.6 adjacent to the Technical Team s desk and elevated for inspection. 12 Not just national events The Club s Regional Officers run events across the country throughout the year. Afull list of Club events can be found on this site if you click on the Events button. You will find that, as well as the national events, there are over 100 regional shows, visits, drives and social occasions across the UK and the whole of Ireland plus 20 regular pub meetings. The newest region is Milan in Italy. To get more details you need to join the Club, which you can also do via this site or by calling If you do not yet own the car you would like it is just as important to join because many excellent Members cars are advertised only in the monthly Gazette and you can get help in finding a good one from the Club s Model Register Captains, Technical Advisers and from the forums on the Members pages of this website. T he cover story in the April Gazette is a road test of a G63 AMG super-car performance from a two-ton off-roader. Going back in time there are some fascinating reminiscences from a man who was at the heart of Mercedes- Benz s UK operations in the 1960s and 70s and who later ran two of its most successful dealerships. 13 This 280SE 3.5 was a non-runner... their introduction to the press was on a tight budget. What s it like to have your car photographed for a magazine? One Club Member found out with his 560SEC. The great benefit of the technical help available within the Club is illustrated by the story of W SE 3.5, the fuel-injection system of which seemed to be playing up. In addition there are details of new models from Mercedes-Benz, updates from the Club, plus the regular columns on F1 and the Club Archive. Finally there are reports from the Club s regions as they gear up for all their events in the season ahead....here its ECU is being tested. On-line technical information Since November 2009 Club Members have had free access to the Mercedes-Benz Electronic Parts Catalogue (EPC). This enables you to identify the part number for any component from all models since 1945 it is usually only made available to garages, at a cost. Instructions on how to use this facility were given in the December Mercedes-Benz Club Gazette and are included in the Members pages of this website. Now the Mercedes-Benz Workshop Information System (WIS) has been made available to Club Members. This gives full service and repair instructions, including wiring diagrams, for all models from the 1990s onwards.

If you can t find the answer there, contact details for the Club s Technical Advisers, Model Register Captains and its Good Garage Guide of Members recommendations are all listed in the Club Directory supplied to new Members. Archive developments The Brooklands Control Tower. The Club s Archive, which contains an amazing collection of brochures, technical literature, price lists and photos, as well as the Club s history, is now well established in offices in the old Control Tower at Brooklands. The work of digitising the Archive contents is well in hand and a website presenting it is now on-line. Club Membership brings you access to all this fascinating material.
