19 Minor League Clips Walker homers as Red Wings defeat Toledo Democrat & Chronicle 6/11/16 Adam Walker homered and the Rochester Red Wings used a pair of three-run innings to defeat the Toledo Mud Hens 6-5 in an International League game Saturday. The Wings (36-27) first three-run inning came in the second inning as Walker belted a three-run homer that drove in Kennys Vargas and Tommy Field. After a one-run third inning by the Mud Hens (28-33), the Wings managed their second three-run inning, this time in the fourth. After singling and moving to third two at-bats later, Field scored after James Beresford grounded into a force out. Walker scored shortly after by way of a wild pitch by Mud Hens pitcher Chad Bell. Beresford would round out the inning s action thanks to a Logan Schafer single. In the seventh the Mud Hens scored four runs to trim the lead to one run. Rochester starter Jose Berrios, who allowed all five of the Mud Hens runs in 6 2/3 innings, was replaced by Sean Burnett in that inning. Burnett and Alex Wimmers combined to pitch 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Schafer finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. The Red Wings return to action at 1:35 p.m. Sunday against the Mud Hens. Lookouts win sixth straight Times Free Press 6/11/16 LOOKOUTS 8, SMOKIES 1 Saturday's recap: Chattanooga starting pitcher Ryan Eades allowed three hits in six scoreless innings to lead the Lookouts to a season-high sixth straight victory and a record with eight games remaining in the Southern League's first half. The Lookouts, who pounded out 14 hits, took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when a Travis Harrison double to center field scored Zach Granite and a Mitch Garver single to center scored Harrison. They went up 3-0 in the fifth inning when a Harrison single to left scored Daniel Palka. Next up: Game three of a five-game series at Tennessee is today at 2:05. Pitchers: David Hurlbut (3-3, 4.53 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Lookouts, with Paul Blackburn (3-2, 2.40) scheduled for the Smokies. Manatees nip Miracle 2-1 in 10 innings News-Press 6/12/16 The Brevard County Manatees scored the game-winning run of a 2-1, extra inning victory over the Fort Myers Miracle on a walk-off third strike wild pitch on Saturday evening at Space Coast Stadium. Tied 1-1 entering the bottom of the 10th, Miracle reliever Todd Van Steensel issued a lead-off walk to Omar Garcia. Angel Ortega then failed to put down a sacrifice bunt and was retired when Van Steensel (0-1) made diving catch for the first out. Then, a Van Steensel check throw on Garcia to first base went awry. Garcia took off for third base. Fidel Pena earned a walk and moved to second base when the Miracle brought the defense to the edge of the grass. 19
20 Facing Elvis Rubio, Van Steensel recorded the strikeout, but his last pitch eluded catcher Brian Olson and Garcia scored from third to end the game at 2-1. Gage Smith picked up the win for the Manatees. Smith (2-0) had blown the save by allowing the Miracle to tie the game in the ninth on a wild pitch that scored Nick Gordon. The Manatees earned their first lead of the series in the bottom of the third inning. Malik Collymore led off with a double into left field off Miracle starter Randy Rosario. With Garcia in the batter s box, a Rosario fastball rattled out of the glove of catcher Brian Olson for a passed ball and Collymore moved up to third. Garcia then pulled a dribbling grounder through a drawn-in infield to plate Collymore for a 1-0 lead. Rosario went 6⅔ innings for the Miracle with the third inning run the only blemish on his line. Rosario struck out four with one walk while scattering seven hits and throwing 76 pitches. Brian Gilbert pitched 1⅓ innings of scoreless relief. Angel Ortega started for the Manatees and tossed six scoreless frames. Ventura gave up only two hits, walked one and struck out seven. Junior Rincon kept the Miracle off the board with scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth. 20
