Jay brilliant, strikes out 11 in 4-0 shutout win over Mets Miracle starter Tyler Jay turned in the top pitching performance of the summer for Fort Myers in Tuesday s series opener with the St. Lucie Mets. Jay evened his record at 4-4 after eighth scoreless innings allowing just two hits, one walk and striking out a season-high 11 while facing just one over the minimum. Tyler threw 98 pitches, 73 strikes and did not go to a two-ball count after falling behind 3-1 to Champ Stuart to begin the fourth. The middle infield defense turned two splendid double plays behind Jay and one in support of Yorman Landa in the ninth to complete the shutout, 4-0. All four Miracle runs scored with two outs. Edgar Corcino tripled in two in the first and Chris Paul followed with an infield hit that brought in Corcino in a three-run first. Tanner Witt added some insurance with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh. Witt finding comfort level in Fort Myers, getting on base With multiple hits in four of his last six games, Tanner Witt is beginning to hit his stride in the Florida State League. A free agent signing at the beginning of May, Witt s plan was to play Independent League baseball after being released by the Baltimore Orioles to end Spring Training. After signing up with the Twins, Witt was sent to Fort Myers where he posted a.200 batting average in his first 13 games. Since May 25, Witt is 9-for-19 (.474), including his first home run, and has earned six walks. Witt s current on-base percentage is.382. A 2009 draft pick of the Detroit Tigers, Corcino played in two games in the FSL in 2012 with Lakeland including one against the Miracle at Hammond Stadium in which he homered. Edgar even spent three games in AAA with Toledo, but was released after the 2012 season. Corcino then played in the Indy leagues before the Twins signed him prior to the 2015 campaign. Back in the FSL four years after his first taste of Advanced-A, Corcino is putting up great numbers despite a supbar April. Edgar hit just.196 in April over 16 games, but moved into the every day lineup in May and clubbed.321 in 28 games. Corcino tallied 11 extra-base hits, four homers, and drove in 19 runs while getting on base at.388 clip. Navarreto s bat heating up as Southwest Florida temp rises April of 2016 will not be chronicled in the Brian Navarreto career scrap book. With just four hits in 38 at-bats, Navarreto barely reached 100 points on his batting average after the first 13 games of the season. Then, on April 23, Brian suffered a mild knee sprain that kept him out of the lineup for 17 days. After returning from the DL, Navarreto went 0-for-9 to drop his average to.085. However, in the last seven games, Brian has begun to center the baseball and has picked up a hit in 8-of-10 with multiple base knocks in four. Navarreto is 14-for-40 over that stretch with a double, home run and three RBI. The 21-year old, sixth round pick in 2013 has witnessed his batting average climb above the Mendoza line for the first time this season at.207. Miracle vs. FSL vs. South Home Road Total Bradenton Charlotte Jupiter Palm Beach St. Lucie vs. North Home Road Total Brevard Co Clearwater Daytona Dunedin Lakeland Tampa The Florida State League plays a complete 140-game schedule. The Miracle will match up with FSL South teams for 18 games and an additional two (20) vs. Bradenton. Fort Myers will play eight games against all six FSL North Division teams; one home and one road four game series.
