Mets churn out seven runs, 15 hits in series opening win On the day he was named the Minnesota Twins Minor League Pitcher of the Month for July, Miracle starter Matt Batts was roughed up by the St. Lucie Mets in the first two innings. The Mets scored four runs on nine hits against Batts, including three in the opening frame. St. Lucie never trailed in the game en route to a 7-4 win. The Miracle twice drew to a one-run deficit, but Brian Gilbert surrendered three runs in the sixth and the Mets cruised to a series opening win. Robert Coles got the win in relief of St. Lucie starter Scarlyn Reyes. Mike Hepple recorded a six-out, two inning save. Offensively, Engelb Vielma, Marcus Knecht and Aderling Mejia each had two hits. The Miracle have now lost four in a row. Offense dries up in final three games with Tortugas After hitting two home runs in a single game for the first time this season and scoring four runs on 10 hits in the series opener with Daytona, the Miracle bats fell silent in the final three games with the Tugas. The offense managed just one run in the final 24 innings of the series and just eight hits. Despite boasting one of the best pitching staffs statistically in the Florida State League, the Miracle lineup has struggled to produce runs all season long. Fort Myers has scored 385 runs, fourth-least in the league. Trade winds blow, Miracle lose a pair of pitchers As the MLB trade deadline came and went on July 31, the Miracle pitching staff took a blow losing both Chih-Wei Hu and Dallas Gallant in separate deals on Friday. Hu was packaged with Alexis Tapia, who also played for the Miracle this season, to bring MLB arm Kevin Jepsen to the Twins from the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Hu might pitch against his former team as the Rays assigned the Taiwanese righty to the Charlotte Stone Crabs. Hu was scheduled to start Sunday, but traveled to Lakeland to meet the Crabs. Gallant was sent to the Texas Rangers organization for a player to be named or cash. North Division play over, August is all in the South The Miracle completed play against the FSL North Division in the regular season after dropping 3-of-4 four games to the Daytona Tortugas. Fort Myers wrapped up intra-divisional play with a record. At home, the Miracle were against the North and on the road, The Miracle won two series (Lakeland, 7-1; Daytona, 5-3), split two series (Brevard Co., 4-4; Dunedin, 4-4) and lost two series (Clearwater, 3-5; Tampa, 3-5). The rest of the month of August will feature games against all five opponents in the FSL South. The Miracle play St. Lucie, Palm Beach, Jupiter and Bradenton six times, but lock up with Charlotte eight times.
