1 JULY 16, 2013 AT CITI FIELD Major League Baseball and the New York Mets will hold the 2013 All-Star Game at Citi Field on July 16, The 2013 All-Star Game will be the 84th Midsummer Classic. It will mark just the second time that the Mets have hosted the All- Star Game, having also done so at Shea Stadium in It will mark the first time that Citi Field has played host to the All- Star Game, and it will be the ninth Midsummer Classic in New York City (Polo Grounds, 1934 and 1942; Yankee Stadium, 1939, 1960, 1977, 2008; Ebbets Field, 1949; and Shea Stadium, 1964). New York s nine All-Star Games is the most of any host city, ahead of Chicago, which ranks second with seven Midsummer Classics. The 1964 Midsummer Classic was held on July 7th, with the host National League capturing a 7-4 come-from-behind victory over the American League. The game featured 21 Hall of Famers, including Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Harmon Killebrew, Juan Marichal and Willie Mays. The A.L. struck first with a run in the first inning on an RBI-single from Killebrew. Chicago Cubs outfielder Billy Williams led off the fourth inning with a home run to tie the game 1-1, and three batters later, Cardinals third baseman Ken Boyer hit a solo blast to give the N.L. a 2-1 lead. Boyer s Cardinal teammate Dick Groat extended the lead to 3-1 with his RBI-double in the fifth inning before Baltimore s Brooks Robinson tripled home two runs in the top of the sixth to once again tie the game at 3-3. Angels shortstop Jim Fregosi put the A.L. back on top in the seventh with a sacrifice fly, and the game remained 4-3 until the bottom of the ninth, when Willie Mays scored following a single by his Giants teammate Orlando Cepeda. With two outs and runners on first and second, Philadelphia Phillies outfielder John Callison hit a walk-off three-run homer to give the N.L. its sixth win in seven decisions and knot the all-time series at 17 each. The home run by Callison, who was selected the game s MVP, represents the last walk-off homer in All-Star Game history. A 50,850 TOG 2 hours, 37 minutes The Mets have had 107 All-Star selections in franchise history and have had four managers lead an N.L. squad (Gil Hodges, 1970; Yogi Berra, 1974; Davey Johnson, 1987; and Bobby Valentine, 2001). The Mets have had two pitchers start an All-Star Game (three times overall): Hall of Famer Tom Seaver in 1970 at Cincinnati; and Dwight Gooden in 1986 at Houston and 1988 at Cincinnati. Gooden is the youngest player to ever participate in an All-Star Game at 19 years, seven months and 24 days in 1984 at San Francisco. Two years later, Gooden became the youngest starting pitcher in an All-Star Game at 21 years, seven months and 30 days in the 1986 Midsummer Classic. Left-handed pitcher Jon Matlack is the only Mets player to be named All-Star Game MVP when he was selected the cowinner along with Chicago Cubs third baseman Bill Madlock at the 1975 Midsummer Classic in Milwaukee. Matlack earned the victory after tossing 2.0 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

3 MEDIA COVERAGE AND THE ALL-STAR GAME S ECONOMIC IMPACT The 2011 All-Star Game in Phoenix was covered by approximately 2,000 writers, broadcasters and photographers who provided worldwide coverage of the jewel event. The 82nd All-Star Game was viewed by 34.9 million viewers and ranks as FOX s most-watched primetime telecast of the summer. As has been the case since its television debut more than 50 years ago, the Major League Baseball All-Star Game ranks as by far the highest-rated All- Star event in sports. In addition, the State Farm Home Run Derby delivered a 4.7 HH rating and an average of 6.7 million viewers, up +2% and +4%, respectively over the 2010 event in Anaheim. MLB International s transmission of the All-Star Game was televised around the world by 47 broadcast outlets to more than 200 countries and in 14 languages. 4 CITI FIELD Hosted its first Major League Baseball regular season game on April 13, 2009 when the Mets hosted the San Diego Padres. Officially opened on March 29, 2009 when St. John s University took on Georgetown University. Former Mets reliever and St. John s alumnus John Franco threw out the first pitch prior to the contest. In 2009, the stadium hosted a series of three sold-out Paul McCartney concerts on July 17th, 18th and 21st. In 2010, Dave Matthews Band played two concerts at Citi Field on July 16th and 17th. The field has also been the host of two international soccer matches: on June 7, 2011 between Ecuador and Greece; and on July 26, 2011 between the Italian soccer team Juventus F.C. and the Mexican team Club America.

5 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL S ALL-STAR SUMMER LEAVES LASTING LEGACY ON HOST COMMUNITIES Major League Baseball will host a series of community and charitable initiatives and projects leading up to the 83rd MLB All-Star Game that will leave a legacy benefiting Greater Kansas City and beyond. This MLB All-Star Summer community effort will complement the midsummer celebration of Baseball and the Kansas City Royals, impact the lives of underserved youth and local veterans, support cancer research, highlight the importance of environmental consciousness and honor the history of Negro Leagues Baseball. $3.5 MILLION DONATION TO LOCAL AND NATIONAL CHARITIES MLB and the Royals plan to donate more than $3.5 million through MLB Charities and Royals Charities, with funds raised from Gatorade All-Star Workout Day on Monday, July 9th, to MLB All-Star projects in the Greater Kansas City area and national charitable initiatives. MLB ALL-STAR SUMMER LASTING LEGACY SUPPORT 2012 MLB All-Star Summer activities will support charitable organizations and initiatives including Stand Up To Cancer, Prostate Cancer Foundation, Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI), Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Make-A-Wish Foundation, among others. A significant portion of the donation from MLB and the Royals will remain in the Greater Kansas City Area to fund a number of worthy projects and causes including the following: Boys & Girls Clubs Renovation Project (Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, Leslie Unit) With assistance from Magical Builders, renovations will be made to the Club s interior and exterior, including new classrooms and new restrooms, an expanded kitchen, landscaping improvements, furniture and an improved HVAC system. Youth Field Renovations (Mulkey Square Park, Satchel Paige Stadium, Cleveland Park) MLB All-Star Legacy funding will help renovate two baseball fields owned by the Kansas City, Missouri, Parks and Recreation Department: Mulkey Square Park and Satchel Paige Stadium. Renovations will include the installation of a new irrigation system and scoreboard, infield and outfield maintenance, fencing construction and installation, backstops, dugouts and other improvements to the general facility surrounding each field. Upon completion, the fields will be regularly used by local Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) leagues and Guadalupe Center Youth Baseball, among others, and during 2012 MLB All-Star Week, Satchel Paige Stadium will host the opening ceremonies of the Jr. RBI Classic, an event designed to provide hundreds of young RBI baseball and softball players an opportunity to participate in MLB All-Star Week. The Baseball Tomorrow Fund (BTF) The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City (BGCGK) operates a local RBI league that serves nearly 800 players. In order to improve the condition of the fields and increase the number of RBI participants, the Baseball Tomorrow Fund has awarded BGCGK a grant of $50,000 to provide funding for field renovations at Cleveland Park, including infield mix, laser grading and drainage surrounding the four fields at the park. The MO-KAN chapter of the Sports Turf Managers Association, which evaluated the fields conditions and recommended the proposed field renovations, will provide volunteer labor to complete the project. Jr. RBI Classic games will be played on the fields at Cleveland Park. BTF is a joint initiative between the Major League Baseball Players Association and Major League Baseball designed to promote the growth of youth baseball and softball throughout the world by awarding grants to support field renovation and construction projects, equipment and uniform purchases, coaches training material and other selected program expenses.

6 The MLB-Royals All-Star Scholars Program Beginning in 2012, the MLB-Royals All-Star Scholars program will identify five high school seniors per year as MLB-Royals All-Star Scholars. The students will be selected from the 20/20 Leadership program, which serves students from moderate- to low-income families to educate and expose them to community issues, develop personal and leadership skills and build community-wide relationships. The selected students will have the opportunity for a $2,500 per-year scholarship, renewable up to four years. Recipients may select a major of their choice at any twoor four-year college/university in Missouri or Kansas. The program recipients will be selected based on a number of criteria, including academic achievement and attendance record, financial need and demonstrated community involvement. The inaugural scholarship winners will be recognized during All-Star Week in Kansas City and will serve as volunteers at various All-Star events. Rebuilding Together (Kansas City VA Medical Center Annex) The project will provide special services for female veterans and all veterans (male and female) afflicted with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by creating family-friendly, baseball-themed play areas in the waiting area of the clinic for patients children, improving aesthetics of the clinic offices and meeting areas and enhancing the landscape surrounding the facility, which was recently added to the Kansas City VA Medical Center system. Bank of America, the official bank of Major League Baseball, will support this project both financially and through employee volunteerism. Operation Breakthrough Funding for this project will help this daycare center, which serves low-income families, improve its after-school and summer enrichment programs. Renovations to the facility s infrastructure will include replacing ceiling, drywall, glass and windows, installing new doors, painting and electrical work and sprinkler relocation. The mission of Operation Breakthrough is to help children who are living in poverty develop to their fullest potential by providing them a safe, loving and educational environment. Negro Leagues Baseball Museum Funds will help create a new, dynamic traveling exhibit that will take a historical look through photos, videos and text at Negro Leagues players who, after the integration of baseball, became MLB All-Stars. After its premiere in Kansas City, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum will develop a three-to-five year national tour of the exhibition, with plans to make it available in future All-Star Game cities. In addition, a portion of the exhibit will be integrated into the current, permanent Major League Baseball section of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. ALL-STAR GAME CHARITY 5K & FUN RUN PRESENTED BY NIKE The third All-Star Game Charity 5K & Fun Run presented by Nike will take place on Sunday, July 8, 2012 in Downtown Kansas City. Participants will run and walk on an All-Star themed course, featuring appearances by MLB legends, mascots and celebrity guests. Hall of Famer George Brett will serve as the Official Race Starter while five-time Royals All-Star and MLB Network analyst Mike Sweeney has created the Sween Team to participate in the event. All event-related net proceeds will be donated equally to three charities supporting cancer research and education -- Stand Up To Cancer, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Previous MLB All-Star Game Charity 5K & Fun Runs have been held in St. Louis (2009) and Anaheim (2010). ENVIRONMENTAL EFFORTS 2012 MLB All-Star Summer will build on the continued commitment to the environment by Major League Baseball and the partnership with Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) by incorporating a wide variety of environmentallysensitive efforts, including: Raising awareness about the importance of going green via public service announcements in-stadium and environmental education materials online ( green); Prioritizing recycling at events throughout MLB All-Star Week; Addressing energy usage through efficiency measures and by investing in renewable energy offsets.
