KANSAS CITY MLB URBAN YOUTH ACADEMY DEVELOPING TOMORROW S CHAMPIONS ON AND OFF THE FIELD

OUR MISSION The purpose of the Kansas City MLB Urban Youth Academy is to provide our community s inner-city youth with a dual opportunity, to develop into high character, productive members of society and at the same time learn the skills of our national pastime. As an Academy, we are committed to providing a positive environment for our inner-city youth. We will educate our Academy participants on what it means to be a professional while surrounding them with coaches, mentors, and role models who can teach them how to play the game of baseball and serve as examples of good citizenship. Through our baseball and softball focused training, education, and character development programs we will build a strong foundation for Academy participants, based on work ethic, leadership, responsibility, accountability, and moral principles. This foundation will allow Academy participants to acquire that unwavering strength of purpose that is the keynote of all individual success.

BACKGROUND Amidst a growing divide in amateur baseball based on economic status, the Academy will provide inner-city youth the same opportunities afforded to those capable of participating in the growing segment of pay to play baseball. We have an opportunity through this MLB facility to eliminate the socioeconomic barriers of the current amateur baseball landscape.

PLAN

ATTRIBUTES UNIQUE TO KANSAS CITY Negro League Baseball Museum natural link of baseball s past with baseball s future. Established RBI programs two large RBI programs in the same area. Managed by Baseball Operations Department ensures that equal focus is given to both player development and community relations.

BENEFITS TO THE COMMUNITY Extends opportunity to area youth that leads to academic and professional success Provides area youth with an alternative to engaging in risky behavior Has the potential to boost enrollment numbers for the Boys and Girls Clubs Has the potential to increase attendance at the Negro League Museum Further develops The Parade Park for the benefit of all age groups Provides a city with a rich baseball tradition with an epicenter for youth baseball Re-engages corporate partners to initiatives centered around youth development Promotes regionalism between Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri

OPERATING AGREEMENT City and Kansas City Urban Youth Academy, Inc. (KCUYA), a non-profit corporation formed to operate the Academy, will enter into 20-year lease with options for four additional 5-year periods KCUYA will fully fund all operating costs once completed, including: Cleaning, Maintenance & Repair Equipment and supplies Utilities Salaries of Academy employees Royals will fund Academy in a similar manner to the way the team funds a minor-league affiliate (starting at $500k per year) The intention here is for the Royals to cover all of the overhead so that every dollar fundraised goes to kids in need through programming costs
