2 Event information for Kingston, Merton & Wandsworth is the world s greatest festival of cycling with 95,000+ cyclists participating in five separate events on traffic-free roads in London and Surrey. Events will take place in central London on Saturday 1 August 2015 and in London and Surrey on Sunday 2 August was developed by the Mayor of London, Transport for London and London & Partners in partnership with Surrey County Council and is sponsored by Prudential. The event is managed by the London & Surrey Cycling Partnership. This booklet contains important information to help you plan your travel around Kingston, Merton and Wandsworth on Sunday 2 August. Events on Sunday 2 August -Surrey Handcycle Classic the world s top handcyclists race over a 15-mile route, starting from Kingston upon Thames and finishing on The Mall in St James s. -Surrey ,000+ amateur cyclists will take on a 100- mile cycle challenge through the closed roads of London and Surrey before finishing on The Mall. -Surrey Classic the world s best male cyclists will compete in this world-class one-day race through London and Surrey. This year the race starts in central London before heading into Surrey and returning to London to finish on The Mall. The event routes through Kingston, Merton and Wandsworth are on pages Other events On Saturday 1 August the Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle and Grand Prix events take place in central London only (City of London and City of Westminster). 3 Road closures on Sunday 2 August On Sunday 2 August there will be an impact on traffic in large parts of London and across Surrey. Roads used by the event will be closed so you ll need to plan your travel in advance. Cyclists in both the -Surrey 100 and Classic events will pass through Kingston on the outbound route and through Kingston, Merton and Wandsworth on the return journey towards the finish. The -Surrey Handcycle Classic starts in Kingston and follows the inbound route to London only. Please note that roads in Kingston used for the outbound route close at 05:00. 4 Local information Key roads Where to watch The A3 will be open, although the exit slips at Esher Common, Coombe Lane and Tibbet s Corner will be closed. Roads adjoining the event routes will have local access only for residents and businesses, with usual Sunday parking restrictions unless otherwise stated. River crossings A number of bridges in central London will be closed until the evening of Sunday 2 August. Kingston Bridge will be closed. Hammersmith Bridge will be open and Wandsworth Bridge will be open for local resident access only (no through route). Putney Bridge northbound remains open from Lower Richmond Road to Fulham High Street all day. Visit www. PrudentialRideLondon.co.uk/roadclosures. ing If you usually park on a road used for the event, please move your vehicle the night before. Vehicles cannot be parked on the event route from 00:01 on Sunday 2 August. Any vehicle left on the route or parked in a suspended parking bay will be removed from the route. Public transport Visit Kingston town centre for a fantastic cycle festival including big screens, bike display teams, live music and entertainment. Visit The Love Wimbledon street party will once again take place outside Elys, including BMX displays, try out activities and lots of music and local food. Visit Lacy Road, just off Putney High Street will host lots of family friendly activities, Doctor Bike Surgery, music, entertainment and food. Businesses Shops, restaurants and cafes in Kingston, Raynes, Wimbledon and Putney will be open for business as usual. Emergency services Emergencies will be treated as a priority in the usual way. If you require the emergency services, call 999. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained and prioritised throughout all of the Prudential RideLondon events. If you require assistance on the day that is not a 999 emergency please ask event staff to help. Pedestrian crossing points Some bus services will need to be diverted, temporarily suspended or will terminate earlier than usual due to road closures. Some stops may also be temporarily relocated. Check for planned Tube & Rail closures, real time travel information and the TfL journey planner. Pedestrian crossing points are located along the event route. These will be under marshal supervision to help pedestrians cross the road. Usual crossings may be suspended, but an alternative will be signposted where it will be easier to cross. Please be patient during the event and listen to instructions given by stewards and marshals. 4
5 Borough Info Message from The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames Kingston town centre will be open for business on Sunday 2 August with the family-friendly Kingston Bike Festival 2015 creating a carnival atmosphere. Lots to see and do - and plenty of car parking too! As well as lining the route, visitors to the town will be able to pull up a deckchair and watch the pros in action on two giant screens. There will lots of cycle-themed entertainment and information stalls as well as special restaurant offers. Officers will be on hand to offer advice on transport options, health protection measures relating to air quality and how to avoid congested streets. Putney, with its great range of shops, bars and restaurants, will be well and truly open for business. Leave your car at home, either walk, catch the train or cycle and come and enjoy the fun. Remember, Kingston is the only point along the entire route where you can see the cyclists on both their outbound and inbound journeys. All car parks (except Cattle Market) will be open, although access routes may change due to road closures so please plan ahead. Special arrangements have been put in place for residents in the affected area of Raynes and Wimbledon and those people will have received a special leaflet to assist them on event day. Message from The London Borough of Wandsworth Putney High Street is a great place to watch the action as the cyclists head to the finish. There s plenty going on in the town centre celebrating its first Car Free Day. Wandsworth Council has been working with and local people and businesses to celebrate the event and take advantage of the road closures. There will be lots of fun events for all the family to enjoy with prizes and goodies given out throughout the day. 5 Get Inspired!
