1 LOWER COLUMBIA CLASSIC CAR CLUB 1 FEBRUARY 2016 FROM THE PRESIDENT January was a quiet but very wet month. Not much of a chance to get the cars out, let alone take the covers off. About the only vehicle I got out was my 1936 Harley Servi car to restock my wood shed. When you live on the north coast you have to have lots of indoor projects and my 56 Chev 4 Dr. Hardtop got its floors all patched. Swap Meet or 50 s Cruise. The events or activities will be posted in the Backfire and s will be sent out in advance. We will finalize assignments for Swap meet assignments during February Club meeting. Remember to keep looking for items for the club Swap Meet Booth. As of today we have close to half the spaces full. The January Meeting saw some volunteers for committee assignments. Judy Jordan, Sunshine Committee. Dorothy Gillies, Membership. Oliver Yackley, Erne Atkinson, College Donations. Gail Penuel, Historical. Darryl Niemi, Warrenton Auto Club. Ross Getchell, Newsletter. Tom Getchell, Website. Burt Young, 50 s Cruise Reunion. Fred Mestrich, Swap Meet. The next Meeting is at Steve s shop Thursday February 18 th Hope to see a lot of you there. 3 LOWER COLUMBIA CLASSIC CAR CLUB 3 With the holiday season behind us, things should quiet down a bit and allow time for project progress, or at least one would hope so. My own projects currently involve getting a new set of coil springs installed under the front end of my `55 Buick. Once done, it will finally be ready to sell..... Whew! Other projects include getting my `57 Buick ready for summer fun. It all stacks up (the jobs I mean) and gets put on the back burner when you re working on a complete restoration of a second car, so I ve quite a list of small and not so small tasks to get done before spring. You all know that while you re driving your car, it s continuously finding weak links and adding to your list, whether you want the list or not. Simple things like breaking a speedometer cable, corroding a hole in a soft plug, wearing out the shocks, rock chips and a dozen other faults that beg for attention. Then, add the normal once a year checks and maintenance and it makes for a busy and interesting off-season. So, lets get them all ready for the coming season. In the meantime, be thinking of some fun tours you d like to make this summer. At the last meeting, a drive-in theater visit was mentioned - for me, that s a great sounding idea that we ought to follow up on. Whether a trip to the 99W Drive-In, at Newberg, Or. or visiting the Skyline Drive-In in Shelton, Wa. on a warm summer night - either would be a treat. Either would make for an overnighter - - or a long drive home. Other fairly local events within easy driving distance, that you might consider are; I ll start with our very own Astoria Swap Meet on March 12th. March 12-13, 2016 in Puyallup, the Almost Spring Swap Meet. Ramblin Round With March 16-20, 2016 the Portland Roadster Show. March 31 April 2, PIR Swap Meet April 1-3, Portland Swap Meet April 23, in Warrenton, Or. 50 s Cruise Reunion. (wrong dates in all but CruZin Magazine) May 1, 2016 in Issaquah, Wa. XXX Vintage Trailers Meet. May 14, in Cornelius, Or., Papa s Toys Open House. June 5, 2016 in Issaquah, Wa., The All Convertible show at the XXX Drive In. June 18, in Seaside, Muscle & Chrome June 19, in Woodland, Wa., Planters Day Car Show. June 25, the Clatskanie Heritage Days Car Show. June 25, in Puyallup, Wa. the All Buick Show July 16, in Newport, Or. The Bay City Cruisers Car Show. July 23, in Aberdeen, Wa., Rod Fest by Midnight Cruisers. August 6, in Raymond, Wa., Car Show & Cruise. August 12-13, The Dalles, Cruise the Gorge August 14, Threshing Bee Car Show, Dufur August 20, at Banks, Or., Banks Car Show, August 20, at Scappoose, Or., NW Classic Fly In/Cruise In. August 21, at Kalama, Wa., Untouchables Car Show. This list only skims the summer schedule, lots more going on out there - some we don t know about and don t have dates for. Share you re ideas with us. Steve
