2 About SGCCC The South Georgia Classic Car Club was founded in April, 1984 as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the restoration, preservation, and enjoyment of special interest automobiles. The Driver s Seat is the official publication of the SGCCC. It is printed, published, and distributed during the last week of each month to all club members. All information contained herein is not necessarily the opinion or the position of club members, its officers, and/or advertisers. 3 January 8, 2019 Meeting: Club President Dan Bremer opened the December meeting at Austin s Cattle Company at 6:45 pm. The opening prayer was led by Paul Worth. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all present. There were 45 members in attendance. As part of his opening remarks, Dan told of his visit to fellowmember Bill Higgins and how much it was appreciated. He encouraged others to do likewise. New members Ray Porter and Hardy Smith were welcomed as were guests Jim and Sherri Fowler, Ron and Lucy Bennett, Mike Rowan and Cindy. Minutes: the December minutes were read by club Secretary Bob Raffaele and were approved by those present. Treasurer s Report: Donna Roberson presented the December report and it was approved by those present. Goals: Dan outlined several goals he felt the club should strive for during 2019: Involve youth in club activities. Expand our boundaries by cruising to more distant locations. Become more visible to the community while also presenting a positive image. The Sheriff s Youth Home will remain our sole charitable recipient again for New Business: Kyle Baker has taken on the responsibility of driving the club s Police cruiser to all club activities. When not in use, the cruiser and equipment trailer will continue to be stored at Walt Prettyman s facility. Both Walt and Chris Dooley need to be thanked for their time and effort looking after this equipment during the last several years. The newly revised SGCCC webpage by Sandi Foster and the Facebook profile managed by Tiffany Baker should greatly help in getting our club s name out to the general public. Fall Classic Car Show: Minutes Logan and Dan explained the rationale for wanting to hire Premium Productions to run the Fall Classic Car Show. They provide the advertising, 100 trophies, judges and registration personnel. The bottom line being the club will attract more entries, and allow member cars to be judged while lessening member workload. While there is a substantial fee for this service, the club can now devote 100% of its energy to selling sponsorships. A motion was made, seconded and passed authoring the club to hire Premium Productions for the Fall Classic Car Show. The Car Show Committee led by George Hardy with assistance from Logan Birdsong, Steve Ward, Van McDowell, Tiffany Baker, Dan Bremer and Tim Foster has already had their first meeting. One of their first projects will be finalizing a sales script to effectively solicit sponsors. A Membership committee headed by Annette Woodruff will be contacting members who haven t attended meetings and events to encourage their participation. A motion was made, seconded and passed authorizing George, Kyle and Tiffany to explore designs for a club t-shirt to be sold at President s Report Dan Bremer We had a fantastic meeting for the January 2019 SGCCC Monthly Meeting. We had several new members to join! Hot Rod and the future Mrs. Hot Rod were there to invite the club to their Hot Rod wedding. We planned out our goals for the year and had volunteers to take up key positions and activities. A new music person, Raymond Porter had stepped up to the microphones. Thank you, Raymond. We are off to a great start for 2019 and the SGCCC is a successful and important part of the South Georgia community. What could be better? Our club member Jimmy Lee needs some of our prayers. He broke his hip and is in the hospital. He may not be able to attend events for a short while, but we all look forward to his return. Get well soon Jimmy!! Winter hours will be 4 6:30 pm. with Summer hours at 5 7:30 pm. Driver s Seat editor David Boyd encouraged members to send in reports, stories and photographs Membership Dues are due. The membership book will be going to the printer March 1 st. 4 Classic Car Barn 1948 Chevy - Dan Bremer I first saw the car sitting in a front yard in the Fitzgerald, Georgia area in It had a For Sale sign on the windshield I recognized it as a 1948, two door sedan Chevrolet. The owner and I negotiated a price and the deal was done. The car was completely original and had no rust, no dents and no problems. I drove the car just that way for several years. One of the Lake Park City Council members always wanted me to pick him up in the 48 and take him to the meetings. I always obliged him. It was on one of those journeys that he told me he was not going to run again and wanted me to be a candidate for his position. Me and the 48 drove all over Lake Park with a Vote for Dan sign on the door. We won. Thank you 48. Eventually I Hot Rod everything. So the 48 went to a builder in Cook County for extensive work to be done. It stayed there for two years with little or no action other than to take it apart. One day the builder told me he was losing his lease on the building and would be moving. I left that day and got my trailer and went to the shop and loaded my 1948 Chevy. The next day that builder was gone, along with somebody else s 1956 Ford. Never to be seen again. My lucky day. I took the 48 to Heme Heads in Nashville and we started the actual completion of the project. A totally new interior with Classic Instruments gauges, Ididit steering column, banjo wheel, Vintage Air and leather seats. A Camaro rear with springs, Driveline Specialties driveshaft, GM 700R4 overdrive transmission and a totally built 1959 Chrysler Hemi with two four barrels and a Lunati cam. The front suspension was a Fat Man power rack and pinion with disk brakes and a ¾ inch sway bar. Everything completed and well done. I still have the car and occasionally drive it. I had it in the Hot Rod House when Chris and I lived in Lake Park. We have since moved to the farm in Echols County and the 1948 Chevy lives in a museum in Nashville, Georgia. You can come and visit it, along with several other cars anytime you want. Thanks.

This event raised over $700 for the Georgia Sheriff s Youth Home on December 7, Editor s Comments February is the shortest month of the year, and often the coldest here in south Georgia. But that does not keep us from enjoying our club activities. We had a very good January meeting, with a lot of discussion about the activities of ou car club. We need to to support our new administration as we move our club ahead in this new year. President Dan demonstrated right off that he likes to delegate responsibilities and that he wants nothing but positive efforts as we go through the year. Thanks to all those members who stepped up to take responsibility for the cruiser, DJ responsibilities, and leadership of our monthly cruises. Sandi Foster has done a great job in getting our web site up to date. Be sure to provide pictures of your cars for inclusion on the site. George Hardy will be heading a committee to lead the Super Cruise-In and Fall Classic Car & Truck Show. With Premium Productions running the Fall Show, we can use our efforts to procure sponsors. So let s all pitch in to make these two major events a real success this year. The hot Rod wedding was a lot of fun, and our best wishes are extended to the happy couple, Mr. and Mrs. Hot Rod!
