1 July 2017 T R E A S U R E V A L L E Y M O D E L A F O R D C L U B O F A M E R I C A The Banger 400 was one for only the most adventurous. All weather predictions were for cold, rain maybe snow in the higher altitudes. That didn t seem to bother 4 members of the Treasure Valley Model A club and 4 members of the Northwest Speedsters. We all met in Baker City, Oregon on Thursday, June 8 th. I drove to Baker with the Claytons and Hightowers along with Ron Mahan. Melodie Mahan decided to forgo this year s trip. I would like to recognize Melodie as the winner of the 2016 Trouble Trophy. She shattered her ankle in McCall and although this wasn t a mechanical breakdown we thought it should qualify. Once we connected with the speedster gang we drove out to Doug Lindscott s to check out his Model A and T wrecking yard. It s getting pretty picked over but Ray Moore was able to find a nice 16 Kelsey Hays wheel for his Model A. We left Baker City on Friday headed for Halfway, Oregon where we met Galan West who opened his shop to let us check out his Model As and Ts. We also drove to his home and met the editor of the local newspaper as well as viewed his 1906 Ford. It is the oldest Ford I ve ever seen and it s still running. From Halfway we drove on to Joseph through the Whitman National Forest. If you ve ever wondered about the name of Halfway it s the midpoint in the drive from Baker City to Joseph, Oregon. The drive was spectacular and the view of Hells Canyon from the overlook on the route is one everyone should see. The weather was really good until about 20 miles from Joseph. Again, a bit of rain but once in Joseph it cleared and we gathered at Wallowa Lake. We tried to have lunch as a group at the Outlaw Restaurant in Joseph but were asked to leave as our group was too large for the cook. After leaving the Outlaw it was decided that we would travel to La Grande on our own. We did have a little issue with one of the speedsters at the Hells Canyon overlook. Bob Allan ran out of battery charge due to the malfunctioning of his alternator. He attempted to repair it but ended up on the trouble trailer for the remainder of the day. Once in La Grande he was able to recharge his battery and finished the trip back to Baker on Saturday. The group decided that once on the trailer you are officially broken down so Bob received the Trouble Trophy for I would like to point out that it was a Model T that rode on the trailer; all Model As finished without any issues. We were scheduled to leave La Grande at 9:00 but three of the group decided to leave early as they were planning on driving back to Caldwell which added about 100 miles to the day. The rest of the cars tried to catch them along the route but we decided to stop in Ukiah for breakfast which put us even further behind. All worked out well for both groups however so everyone had a good day Saturday. I was with the late group and the most eventful thing was hitting a sleet and snow squall between Ukiah and Granite. I must say that the weather forecast for the two days of the tour was far worse than it turned out to be. That being said, the snow and sleet wasn t too enjoyable but it only lasted for about half an hour. I would like to thank all those who attended the Banger and I especially thank Doug Griffin for driving the trouble trailer and for his help in organizing this tour as well as all the previous 4 Bangers. The cars were driven by Rob Blout with his granddaughter Taylor and Elvin Hightower with Rob s other granddaughter Madison. The girls are now the proud owners of two beautiful myrtlewood plaques and are anxious to attend another Model A meet.

I'm trying to restore a Station Wagon and the only frame I have is shot. I will install new safety glass so a frame with broken glass is fine. Any leads will be appreciated. Thanks, Rob Spofford Ford Roadster fairly priced at $14,500. The car has 2000 miles on a professionally rebuilt engine and a 36 Ford transmission. It is an older restoration and the running gear has been recently rebuilt including the Diff, brakes and front end. It also has cast iron drums and turn signals. The top and interior are very nice although the paint is showing signs of wear. It also has dual side mount spares and a very nice custom made trunk with a vinyl cover. 10 Page 8 The Treasure Valley A's is a Model A Ford automobile club located in the Boise area of Idaho. We are dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the Model A Fords from 1928 through 1931 by the Ford Motor Company. Membership is not limited to owners and is open to anyone interested in preserving the memory of our past and the great impact that Henry Ford made upon the world with his Model A. The Treasure Valley A s have had a long history in the city of trees. Many of the club s members have spent most of their lives here in the area. The club was formed around 1963 and its membership consisted of only eight couples and a few cars. Since then the club has grown to well over a hundred and thirty and is one of the most active antique car clubs in the state. We would love to hear from you or even better, stop by our next event.
