1 Big Sky News June 2017 Dudes 'N' Dolls Great Falls Linda Wallace We are winding down our winter season with a bang--montana State Square And Round Dance Festival held here in Great Falls at our Expo Park (Fairgrounds). It runs from May 26th through May 29th. Should be a great one and one that you don t want to miss. Its not too late to sign up if you haven t already done so. Go to montanasquaredancing.com and register. Our regular dances have ended after having a great Spring Fling with Jerry Jestin. We will begin our summer schedule beginning June 3rd and continuing on July 22nd and August 26th. All dances will be held at the Missouri River Manor and casual dress is the attire. Finger foods start at 6:00, rounds at 6:45 and mainstream with a plus tip at 7:00. Our regular schedule will pick up again on September 9th. We hope to see friends old and new at Montana State, USA West, Plus on the Boulder and Knothead. What a great summer we have to look forward to. Montana Mavericks Plains Darlene Jolly The MONTANA MAVERICKS May dance had 40 dancers from Libby, Kalispell, Lolo, Helena & Great Falls as well as club members. Ed Evans of Port Orchard, Wa. called & Lorrie Lane cued the dance. 2 of our graduates enjoyed their first dance as club members the other was off to a family event. Backroads of Montana TV show on PBS were in attendance & filming for a future show. The crew from Under the Big Sky, a CBS program was also in attendance as well as reporters from the Clark Fork Valley Press/Mineral Independent &the Sanders County Ledger. We had a workshop with Ed on Friday night prior to the dance. We had a no host dinner before the dance on Saturday at Bulls restaurant. 17 dancers & friends enjoyed the great food & the company was great. We have cancelled our June dance this year. Our caller for that dance has decided to retire from calling & cueing, so some of us will attend the Idaho State Festival which is in Wallace, Id. Then some will participate in the Lake Coeur d Alene cruise on the Wednesday after that & then on to the Washington State Festival in Spokane starting the next day. We will be dancing on July 8 here in Plains at the bank with Gary Baker calling. That particular dance will have no rounds, but should still be a fun dance Our August dance is our campout on the 2 nd weekend at Bar S campground at Ronan. If you need info on anything please contact Darlene at September we will be dancing on the 9 th & in October we ll go back to winter schedule of first weekend thru May. 2 Helena Last Chance Square Dance Club Del Harris Our club has been meeting every Monday night this month from 6:30 to 9:30. Glen has mixed the calls with Mainstream, Plus and Round dances. Thus the 3 squares that attended had some resting time while others danced. April 27 th the TouchMark Retirement center hosted 2 squares of dancers who entertained residents and danced with them, too. Their dinner was excellent. The hall was decorated like a barn dance, and toe tapping music sounded throughout. Square dancers visited, and did all kinds of different dancing. Everyone had a delightful time. May 19 we all wore square dance costumes to the Jim Darcy Ag Days activity where student learned about old time ag methods and dance. Teachers served a delicious lunch and presented each volunteer with a token of appreciation. We love doing this activity for the children. May 26, 27, 28, ands 29 is the MONTANA STATE SQUARE DANCE FESTIVAL in Great Falls. Many from the Helena area plan to attend. This will be an opportunity for you to bring a recipe for the MONTANA STATE COOK BOOK. Karyn Hamilton, Chairman is gathering the recipes. There are many wonderful cooks around our state. We ll be looking for your FAVORITE or BEST or MOST POPULAR recipe. Bring your recipe with you or talk up the cookbook. It will be a fund raiser for the 2020 State Festival in Helena on Memorial Day weekend. June 10 is the Clancy Days parade, which the Queen City Horse Square Dancers will perform. A good fun time is the order of the day. This is the only summer activity we have scheduled.
